I swear each book just keeps getting darker and darker. What could be darker and sinister than this! I would love to know where Ms Hood’s ideas come from but I am also slightly worried too! I mean each book is fresh with ideas, murders and new people. I mean how are there still people to kill in this town!!!

We are back with the team! Yay! And it is nice being around them again, plus we welcome another new addition. This family is getting big and quick, some more people to be worried about! The new addition has their own skillset to bring to the table. And I must admit I am intrigued, especially with their photographic memory. However, it is always good to have a little element of caution. I mean this is the 11th book of the series, just wow. Yet, with all the backgrounds and the characters, you should definitely be reading the other books in this series.

This time, the victims are from the cheerleader squad! Someone really is not happy and they show this through the brutality of these deaths. Shocking for sure. Each time you think you know who the perpetrator is, you realise you aren’t even scratching the surface, as you spin around and around trying to get tot he bottom of it all. I.did not even try to guess this time because I just could not fathom who would do such callous and harsh things to these girls.

It is a tantalising and intense read by Ms Hood. I seriously do not know how she does it. It is a page-turner that lept me up late into the night. Just wow! I have bever been let down and I don’t think I ever will as long as Kane and Alton are on the case. They are as solid as they come, with the backup and tools at their disposal isn’t it about time for people to realise they will always get caught?

I can't believe this is the eleventh book in this superb series - and they just keep on getting better! Mind you, Black Rock Falls must have an awful lot of murderers living in and around the area. Each book does contain many of the same characters but they are also written so they can be read either as a series or as a standalone.

In this story the victims are cheerleaders from the local high school but can Detectives Jenna Alton and David Kane uncover just who the perpetrators are before they strike again? This is an enthralling page turner that I really didn't want to put down until I reached the end. The author skilfully takes readers into the heart of the investigation, sharing events from different viewpoints - including that of a perpetrator. The interpersonal relationships within the police team, their camaraderie and support make them such a great group, using their strengths to help each other to solve the crime and protect their community to the best of their combined abilities. With at least one killer in the community, probably linked to the school, just what is their motivation? How can they be stopped? Who else is in danger?

A fascinating read, filled with tension and suspense, I have no hesitation in highly recommending this book (and others in the series) to anyone who enjoys crime thrillers with a great sense of community and a healthy dose of romance!

Another corker of a book! The 11th Kane and Alton story and this one was every bit as good as the rest.
It’s festival time in Blackrock Falls, but the celebrations are marred by the violent death of a young girl, one of the local school cheerleading team.
Jenna and Dave get to work investigating the crime; along with their new deputy Zac Rio, who seems to fit right in with the rest of the team.
We see snippets of the killers’ story as part of the book is written from their perspectives and I really enjoyed trying to guess who the killers were.
All the old favourites are back, FBI agents Jo and Ty are visiting for the festival so end up advising and offering support to try and crack the case.
I love the feeling of family throughout these books along with Kane and Alton’s budding relationship and I’m always sad when I get to the end of the book.
Looking forward to the next one already!

The Fall Festival arrives...along with a new set of horrendous killings. Black Rock Falls' supposed celebrations is tainted when 16-year-old Laurie Turner, who recently went missing, is found lifeless in a mining deposit. Now Jenna Alton and David Kane must solve the case, hire a new colleague, assist with the Fall Festival preparation and face their hellish past all at once.

The story is fast paced and can be read overnight, what with how quick the events unfolded. Everything is interconnected, you won't be seeing any unnecessary scenes here which is a god-send!

This is actually my first read by DK Hood and it did not disappoint. I love the characters so much. They have flaws like us but are also so incredible that they seem real and totally fictitious. I especially adore the relationship between the two main characters.

It's great that Hood traversed topics that aren't really seen seriously now but which should be seen that way. The perils of ‘love’, obsessiveness, domestic violence etc.

DK Hood writes suspenseful-y, she knows how to wield her pen alright! I did NOT expect that ending at all! The book also has been researched well for, which is always a plus.

Midway throught reading this, I paused and asked myself: why am I just reading a DK Hood book now? I wish I'd done so ages ago! She is brilliant, her writing very compelling and her titles worthy of a position in every decent crime fiction fan's bookshelf.

Book 11 in the series, and the only reason it dropped a star , on my rating, is because I think that the first 2 books need reading to understand the dynamics of the law enforcement team in these books.
The story is set in a small town in America which has seen more than its fair share of serial killers, in fact it’s becoming an attraction which is bringing more and more people to the area.
This allows the author to maintain a small county law police team, who are investigating, big city crimes.
The characters are great, but in my opinion it’s the peripheral characters that are more compelling.
In this story a cheer leader goes missing and her family dynamic is put under scrutiny..It’s not until another cheerleader goes missing that the police really start to look outside her family and friends

Be Mine Forever is the eleventh book in the police procedural series featuring Detectives David Kane and Jenna Alton. I picked up this series with Whisper in the Night (book 6) and I also thoroughly enjoyed books seven through to ten.

Set in Black Rock Falls, Montana, Sheriff Jenna Alton makes a very likeable detective. Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small town, which has certainly seen more than its fair share of murders! Her deputy, David Kane is a former Special Forces marksman with exceptional profiling skills.

In this instalment, cheerleader Laurie Turner vanishes after a practice session, but Jenna isn't duly concerned, until her red pick-up is spotted, having been abandoned and sabotaged. Visiting Laurie's father, psychologist Dr Bob Turner doesn't seem to know much about his daughter, let alone for how long she has been missing. Laurie's body is later discovered in a remote area, with stab wounds to the chest and face and welts on the neck area. Jenna thinks it's likely that locals are responsible until another cheerleader's body is found...

The novel is told in alternating chapters and the reader hears from the investigators and the perpetrator adding weight to its creepiness. This novel was electrifying and solid police procedural and it was a well-balanced thriller that had me glued to the pages. I didn't want to put it down as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story. Despite Black Rock Falls being a small place, Jenna and her team, including newbie deputy Zac Rio, were still left with a lot of work to do in the very high-octane case. This really was a spectacular crime-thriller that grabbed me hook, line and sinker. The team embarked on an exciting and exhilarating mission to find the perpetrator and all the time the tension snowballed as D.K. Hood launched at me some captivating misdirection. The writing flowed effortlessly and swiftly in a story rich in drama, shocking secrets, lies, betrayal and duplicity, culminating in an explosive, heart-pounding conclusion.

I will be seeking out the first five instalments of this masterful series. A brilliant, compelling, pulse-pounding and very highly recommended crime-thriller.

The Fall Parade is approaching but the quiet of Black Rock Falls is about to be disturbed with a death of one of the cheerleaders. Alton and her team will need to discover a motive, but can they in time to prevent any more deaths.
Another entertaining serial killer mystery in this enjoyable and well-written series with its likeable characters. The story can easily be read as a standalone one.

How did I miss this series before! This is book 11 and the first book I have read in the Detectives Kane and Alton Books. First one cheerleader goes missing, found murdered, then another,… the race is on to find the killer. I so not saw the ending coming! Great read, fast pace, great team of detectives, I definitely need to do some catching up reading.

Former DEA, Jenna Alton is now the Sheriff in Black Rock Falls, Montana.  Her past is a secret.  Deputy David Kane's background is also a secret.  He was a Special Forces sharpshooter, and a bodyguard to the President.  Then there is Forensic Scientist Shane Wolfe, who is not only a Medical Examiner with amazing computer skills, he used to be Kane’s handler. So, with a few other deputies, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small Black Rock Falls town, which seems to have more murders than a small town should.


My Synopsis:   (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
When Laurie Turner goes missing after cheerleader practice, Jenna pulls out all the stops to find her, but when they find her truck abandoned in the school parking lot and evidence of a smashed cellphone, they fear the worst.  They are right, as her body is soon discovered in an old mine shaft.

Laurie won't be the only cheerleader to go missing.  Jenna and Dave start to think that they are being targeted by a pair of ruthless killers.  They are also considering the possibility that the perpetrators may be fellow students.  Teenagers.

There are surprisingly more suspects than Jenna thought possible.


My Opinions:  
Usually, the books in this series are a very fast read.  This one seemed much longer, but that could have been my exasperation with the characters.

I still have a problem with the dynamics between Jenna and her male deputies (Kane in particular).  I thought the author was getting away from the over-protective male dominance of her characters, but in this book, it was right in your face.  Jenna shouldn't have to constantly prove herself in every book.  This is getting really annoying.

With reference to the other characters, I still don't like Carter, and although it's nice to have the FBI drop in occasionally when needed, I hope they aren't an every book occurrence.  The whole idea of the books was a small-town sheriff battling crime.   I also find that Emily is becoming more annoying.  I do like Rowley and his wife, but I'm not a fan of the new Rio.

I probably wouldn't continue to read this series due to my dislike of the characters, but the plots are always good!  Really good!  As always, there was a lot of action, and a number of suspects to keep me interested.

So bottom line, I'm in it for the story.  I will definitely be reading the next one!

How have I missed so many great books in this series I have no idea but I know that I’ll be looking up the previous ten stories. I had no problem reading it as a stand-alone so don’t shy away from starting it.
Jenna and David are a perfect team for the department and when they need to catch a killer, there’s nothing done halfway through, they just go for the kill even when their own life is in danger.
When a cheerleader is reported as a missing person, their police procedural abilities begin to shine.
Twist after twist and secret after secret, this story kept me guessing throughout the book and holds a fast-paced game at all times. I had my doubts of who were the guilty ones in here but the author had a great ability to keep me intrigued and added more suspense overall.
Don’t miss out on a great story.

Be Mine Forever by D. K. Hood is the 11th book in the Detectives Kane and Alton mystery series, and my first book by this author. I really enjoyed this book, and it is fine as a stand alone, but if I have read the previous ten, I'm sure I would have a better understanding of the detectives. When a teenager goes missing after cheerleader practice, the detectives are called. There are so many secrets in this town, and some really disturbed people, it kept me reading page after page. So many twists and turns it was like riding a roller coaster. If you're looking for a fast paced thriller, than I strongly recommend this book. I will definitely be reading more books by this author, and I have 10 to catch up on.

I love this series so much and this book definitely did not disappoint.
Jenna and Kane have their hands full when a teenage girl is reported missing and soon found dead. It seems she was strangled and her body left at the local mine.
Laurie was a cheerleader and was last seen getting in a truck after her own vehicle broke down.
Another cheerleader is then found murdered and the team know they need to pull out all the stops to catch the killer.
Theres a new addition to the team and he fits in perfectly with the others.
I loved this book as it was like catching up with old friends and there’s a few shocks in store in this one.
This is a fantastic story and is part of a brilliant series that I will continue to follow.

I always enjoy reading the books in this series and this book was no exception.

Jenna and Dave are back, and trying to figure out who would hate cheerleaders so much that they end up dead. I wouldn't like to be living in Black Rock Falls for all the tea in China, but it has to be said that there is always something happening there! Aunt Betty's is still the place to go and Jenna and Dave have a wonderful team around them to help them solve the mysteries. I enjoy reading about the secondary characters as much as I do about the main characters.

I had a pretty good idea who the baddies were fairly early on, but it didn't detract from the story. This was a good, solid police procedural.

Looking forward to book number 12!

Book eleven opens with a missing cheerleader from the night before. Her father calls the sheriff and once again the hunt for the missing girl begins. After finding the abandoned red truck that she drove she drove the night before and her broken cell phone, Jenna Alton the sheriff along with David Kane her deputy begins the hunt for her killer, though she is still going with a missing person that is until a linesman calls saying he has discovered a body at his work site early that morning, arriving they are sure it is the body of the person they are looking for.
When another cheerleader goes missing, they now know there is a problem, but also a long list of suspects. Along with a new deputy Zac Rio that is hired which helps with the crime scenes you have the makings of another really good book from this author. Which only gets better when there is a second story like always inside of this one with a photographer. Also, you have deputy Jake Rowley’s wife who is pregnant end up involved by being attacked which adds to the suspense of the story. But what really gets you is towards the end when Kane is attacked. The way he is and will he make it through this attack. This story will keep you going once again just like the other books and is a very good read with good characters.

He offers her a ride and she jumps into the passenger side of his Chrysler, but he drives past the turn for her street and takes her to the woods under the premise that he wants to see if the deer he saw earlier is dead. Once there another person appears in the backseat and slowly strangles her with a band. The following day her father, psychologist Dr Bob Turner, reports her missing and Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane rush to his house to interview him. However, their guts tell them that something is off about his behaviour. He drinks and gets abusive and Laurie even had a heavy-duty bolt on her bedroom door. Kane and Alton start searching for the pickup and when they find it in the school parking lot it has been sabotaged - the battery cable had been removed rendering it useless.

Meanwhile, linesman Al Watson discovers her body while repairing a connection nearby and the team head to the crime scene out at Old Mines and are shocked at the sheer brutality of the killers. There are welts around her neck and multiple stab wounds to the face and chest, and it isn't long before they find the battered and bruised body of Laurie's estranged mother Jeanette Turner. As more bodies drop it appears the killers are taking out the cheerleading team one by one. Can the team get to the bottom of who is ruthlessly murdering the girls before the killers strike again? This is a scintillating and enthralling thriller from start to finish with plenty of drama, shocking secrets, lies, betrayal and duplicity. The twists and turns in the plot leave you breathless as the team search for answers and a race against time ensues to ensure the killers are identified and caught. The killers have clearly done this before as they have left very little in the way of evidence for the police to examine. Kane and Alton are intelligent and dedicated investigators but they are pitted against equally smart perpetrators. It was great to see FBI Agents Jo Wells, a top behavioural analyst, and partner Ex Navy Seal Ty Carter again as they had been drafted in to help solve this case as rapidly as possible. It also features Deputy Jake Rowley, medical examiner Dr Shane Wolfe and new recruit deputy Zac Rio, all of whom are superbly developed with a defined role to play. A compulsive, thrilling and engrossing story. Highly recommended.

Laurie Turner’s car won’t work and despite the stormy weather she starts walking home. When a car stops offering her a lift she gladly accepts as she knows the driver but as they pass her turning she realises too late that her life could be in danger. Laurie’s father, Dr Turner, phones the following day to report that his daughter’s missing and Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane start searching but before long her body is found in a disused mineshaft.

It seems just weeks ago that I was congratulating myself on finding an amazing new series by an author I’d not read before so it doesn’t seem possible that I’ve just finished book eleven with D K Hood’s fantastic Detectives Kane and Alton – how time flies when you’re enjoying yourself! ‘Be Mine Forever’ is another absorbing and totally gripping thriller based at Black Rock Falls which does seem to have more than its fair share of serial killers. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading more of Jenna Alton and Dave Kane whose relationship is getting closer, Deputy Jake Rowley and his wife Sandy now expecting their first child, and the new Deputy Zac Rio who’s fitting nicely into their team. This book is compulsive reading with action, drama, twists and turns, a few red herrings thrown in to confuse, and an ending that was shocking and unexpected. The only niggle I have is the number of times food and Aunt Betty’s Café is mentioned, but other than this I’ve loved every minute of this thriller and can’t wait for the next one.

With the clock ticking, the whoole town takes to the streets to find the missing girl and, sfter a frantic search, her body is found. When another cheerleader goes missing, Jenna thinks someone close to the school is picking teenaers off one by one.

With plenty of suspects to choose from, Jenna and Dave have their work cut out to catch the killer before another cheerleader is murdered. There's a new member to the team, Rio, who i was a bit suspicious of. There's a few wdge of yor seat moments in this fast paced read. It was nice to catch up with Jenna and her team again. This is one of the best police procedural series that i've read.

Great ominous setting in the rural woodlands of Montana, great crew of police and FBI agents all headed by Sheriff Jenna Alton and deadly Dave Kane. The main thriller tension in this murder spree mystery is in finding out when the abundance of clues reaches the tipping point to stop a chain of cheerleader murders. There are clues from the outset as to the general age, identity and probable motivation of the perpetrator but the cold ruthlessness of the killer and sidekick as they plan one gruesome murder after another: wow!

The author has maintained a good balance of Jenna and Dave's personal lives in relation to their professional teamwork. Danger and injuries may hit close to home for the team but their dogged determination to nab their man (or woman!) keeps a quick pace and the climactic action sequence is a real nail-biter. I like that in Hood's series the good guys all work well together as a team: no backbiting or professional jealousy here, thank you very much. Despite their backwoods location Alton and Kane have access to all of the latest medical techniques, plus helicopters and seemingly unlimited access to extra personnel. If anything, this abundance of technical knowledge and glut of resources may be the one point I find too perfect and unrealistic but it does make for a thorough investigation.

This is the fifth book I've read in the Alton and Kane series and I have to admit I am, at this point, always looking for the next!
