Dragon Legend, the sequel to Dragon Mountain does not disappoint! An action packed, fast-paced immersive adventure about four friends and their dragons.

Connected through bonds, their abilities strengthen as they work together to over throw evil powers but a twist strikes in the final battle and betrayal seeps through, setting the scene for the upcoming installment.

I really enjoyed reading Dragon Legend and already have some Y6 children who can't wait to read it. They won't be disappointed.

I first read Dragon Mountain last April, gobbled it up in a day, immediately fell in love with the book and have been shouting about it ever since! If you've read Dragon Mountain, you'll know that to say it ends on a cliff-hanger is an understatement, so I've spent the past nine months wondering what was to become of Billy, Dylan, Charlotte and Ling Fei, along with their dragons Spark, Buttons, Xing and Tank.
In Dragon Legend, Dylan has been kidnapped by Old Gold and the Dragon of Death, and it's down to Billy and the others, along with their dragons, to save him; however, this means making the dangerous journey into the Dragon Realm and risking their own lives in the process. Of course, they don't hesitate and embark upon a perilous journey to collect the eight pearls they need in order to defeat the Dragon of Death and the nox-wings.

As you might expect from such a suspenseful ending to book one, you are thrown straight into the action from the very first page of Dragon Legend (but fear not, there is a rather good recap woven into this to remind you of what happened previously) and the adventure doesn't let-up until the very end of the book, with the stakes even higher than last time. Not only are they searching for Dylan, they are desperate to find him before anything can happen to him. And, as well as that, they know that the fate of the world depends on them being able to defeat the most powerful dragon of them all, the evil Dragon of Death. Along the way, they journey through new and wonderful lands, as well as encounter blood-thirsty fish and a flying pig (please can I have one of these?!). They must work together if they are to succeed in their mission but there are secrets being kept and, at times, it is difficult to tell who will win out in the end ... and speaking of the end - wow! Be prepared for an other cliff-hanger that will have you desperate to reach for book 3 before the authors have even finished writing it!

Slightly darker than Dragon Mountain, Dragon Legend allows us to travel through the next perilous stage of the journey alongside our heroes, inhaling the lemony scent of the The Forgotten Sea, feeling their fear for Dylan and experiencing the thrill of on dragons.

Mythology combines with modern day adventure that will have you utterly gripped and unable to put the book down in this brilliant sequel. Full of friendship, warmth and determination, Dragon Legend is pure escapism at a time when we need it more than ever.

Released on the 3rd March, I urge you to pre-order a copy today!

Now, how long until book 3 is released?!?!

What can you say about a new book from the Tsangs other than it's incredible. Dragon Legend proves to be just as thrilling, twisty, and magic as Dragon Mountain. There is something so special about their writing style that whisks you away to another world so wondrous and yet so real you feel like you could get there... if you had a dragon to spare. Loved it from start to finish and desperate for book three!

Heart pounding action that forced me to hold my breath as though I were part of the adventure, another spell binding plot and a complete edge of my seat ending.

Coming back to this series is a wonderful feeling. There is such a depth of world building, characterisation and strength in emotion that these could only be written by expert author duo, Katie and Kevin Tsang.

As the first ended on a serious cliff hanger, there was no doubt as to how popular the second would be. Picking up where dragon mountain left off, we are reunited with Xing, Spark, Tank and Buttons along with their heart bonded humans, Ling Fei, Billy, and Charlotte. A new quest and adventure presented itself and they must now travel back in time in the dragon realm for pearls and to find missing friends and enemies.

This adventure is fraught with danger, peril at every turn but it is balanced with a lemon fresh ocean and the protection of the dragons. The super strengths of the humans will be drawn upon in new ways, physically and emotionally but these characters are more than ready. Always working together, guaranteed to have each other’s backs, there is little they can’t face, whether it be a giant worm, scorpion or travelling in the mouth of a giant fish. However, betrayal plays a large part in this tale and all will suffer at its hands in some way.

Be prepared to board a superb rollercoaster of adventure in Dragon Legend.

After being left on an incredible cliff-hanger at the end of Dragon Mountain, the first book in the Dragon Realm series, Dragon Legend picked up the story at high speed and didn’t let up for the entire adventure!

Billy Chan is back with his friends, Charlotte Bell and Liu Ling-Fei, and JJ – who isn’t really his friend at all. They must rescue Dylan who has been taken by the evil Old Gold who lured them all to his summer camp in China with the aim of breaking through into the world of dragons and becoming all powerful. There to help them are the four dragons with whom they have been heart-matched. This rare and ancient bond means the children have powers they never imagined and a relationship that will see them through.

In this adventure, the children and their dragons must find the eight magical pearls before Old Gold and the Dragon of Death. Relying on their senses, the travel to the most amazing places – fire marshes, blood straight, frozen wasteland – and meet the most amazing creatures along the way.

The children must stand up to the power of dark magic and learn the importance of being loyal, brave, strong and true as they move from one challenge to the next.

Readers will be carried away on this brilliant, fast-paced adventure and be left eagerly anticipating the third instalment.

Well, if this isn’t just a blooming magnificent sequel and a half. Dragons, friendship, powers, some BAD BAD baddies and full of adventure. This is deliciously good - full of shocked many times and that ending has left me DESPERATE for book 3. The brilliance of book one with even more incredible worlds, strange creatures and darkness everywhere. You can’t not love these kids and their dragons! I need to know what is going to happen next!!

DRAGON LEGEND is a high-flying adventure full of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you loved DRAGON MOUNTAIN for its whimsical dragon adventure, DRAGON LEGEND takes it to another level. Here we explore the vast world of the Dragon Realm in the past, through forgotten seas and floating islands, under the sun-dipped sky and three sparkling moons, meeting golden flying pigs and bloodthirsty fish. I really struggled to put this down once I started reading because it has such a charm, such a cosiness, that you want to last forever.

There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you occupied, however, and the story does get a little darker than its predecessor, but it's not unsuitable for younger readers. My mind was utterly blown at how the story ended; although I could predict some of the story, I certainly didn't expect such an upheaval at the roots!

DRAGON LEGEND is simply a lot of fun, and genuine themes of good and evil are touched upon under loveable humour and high-flying adventure. The Tsangs have done it again, and I'm really excited to see how Billy and his friends overcome their next troubles in #3.

WILL I READ ON? Yes!

I requested this as my ten year old son is obsessed with these dragon series by The Tsangs. I read it to him and he enjoyed it very much.
A sequel to the original series, it features the same human and dragon characters. The search for the magic pearls has to be completed before the Dragon of Death reaches them herself, and she will control the human realm.
Gripping and exciting, my some is now desperate for the the next instalment.
Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ahead of publication in exchange for an honest review

An exciting & adventurous sequel! This was a perfect follow up to the whirlwind that was Dragon Mountain. The characters leap off the page and this was so hard to put down!

The second book in the Dragon Realm series very much delivers on its promise to be an edge-of-your-seat adventure. It is an action-packed, no-time-to-waste, rip-roaring return to the Dragon Realm for Billy, Charlotte and Ling-Fei, who must travel through time to save their friend. Can they collect all eight pearls and stop the Dragon of Death, or will darkness conquer all?

Dragon Legend picks up from the epic cliff-hanger ending of its prequel, Dragon Mountain. We are thrown straight back into the action with not a word to waste. The story is fast-paced and the characters are thrown into several mini-adventures along the way, making it an exciting and engaging read. Very little time is wasted, with the first book in the series acting as almost the build-up to this action-packed read.

It will certainly hold the attention of its intended audience and I look forward to adding a copy to my classroom bookshelf. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Warning: contains spoilers for Dragon Mountain (Dragon Realm 1).

A few months ago, I had a brief conversation on Twitter with an author friend of mine about books, with them telling me that although they often enjoy the first in a series, they don’t tend to read any further because they simply don’t have time to read as many books as they would like. While I fully understood and respected their point of view, I reflected on my own reading habits because, for me at least, anticipating sequels to books I’ve loved is a huge part of the pleasure of reading, especially when they are books like this one, the sequel to last year’s incredible Dragon Mountain.

That book was the October choice for Primary School Book Club on Twitter and was one, which although an incredibly popular choice in the voting, divided opinion as to the cliffhanger ending that it ended on with some readers, including myself, somewhat taken aback by the way it had finished. Having now read this, the sequel, I can see why it ended as it did because in this read we hit the metaphorical ground running and are straight back into the thick of the action, in a roller-coaster ride of astonishing plot twists and turns. And as before, these leave the reader suspended partway through the plotline at the conclusion of this book meaning that, yet again, we are left desperately wanting to know how the trilogy will end in the final book: Dragon City.

Following the dramatic ending of Book 1, we again find friends Billy, Charlotte and Ling-Fei deep within Dragon Mountain, reflecting on the disappearance of the fourth member of their merry band, Dylan, who has been snatched and taken through the nox-wing portal by Old Gold – a supporter of the Dragon of Death two days previously. Together with their dragons and Dylan’s, the three remaining children create a portal of their own to transport them to the Dragon Realm and after a short discussion decide that they must also take JJ with them – Old Gold’s grandson, whose connection to the old man will ensure they arrive in the correct time period.

Equipped with the special suits that their dragons created for them previously for protection, and carrying their precious pearls – unique gems which bestow special powers upon their owners – the children and the dragons all make the required blood offerings before they travel through the portal, arriving in the Dragon Realm. On arrival, the children and Buttons – the dragon to whom Dylan is heart bonded – all concentrate hard on sensing in which direction they need to travel to rescue Dylan and set off north to try to locate him.

After making good progress, the adventurers make camp for the night and are amazed at the appearance of a small, cute flying creature which they are unsure as to whether or not they can trust after the near-disastrous encounter with the river creature which took Dylan’s pearl in Book 1. Ling-Fei – whose powers give her a supernatural connection with nature – reassures them that it is safe and they let it stay.

A resentful JJ complains that he is hungry and so Buttons goes to catch fish to supplement the peaches that grow in abundance in the realm. While a cross Billy expects JJ to show some gratitude, the other boy complains bitterly about not wanting to be there and how he doesn’t feel part of the group and is only there to be made use of. Expecting the dragons to side with him, Billy is surprised when his dragon, Spark, tells him to not allow his heart to harden, as it will be needed to guide the party on their way.

On rising the following morning, Spark, who is a seer dragon, tells Billy that she has had a vision – one which Billy realises he has shared through his dreams – in which she has seen a still-alive Dylan. Initially, this is hugely reassuring to Billy, but frighteningly the rest of the vision has shown a city on fire – something which will come to pass if Dylan is not rescued and the Dragon of Death is not stopped.

With this image fresh in his mind, Billy and the others set off again to try to locate Dylan while also searching for the remaining pearls that they will need if they are to succeed in defeating the Dragon of Death. As they travel closer and closer to where they believe Dylan and the pearls to be, they will meet both dragons and other creatures, and be forced to decide whether or not to place their trust in them. But the creatures are not all that might prevent them from getting closer to their end goal of defeating the Dragon of Death, as the children are forced to enter the strange Frozen Wasteland, where their dragons cannot travel, before travelling through time and space to ancient China. Will they find Dylan in time to prevent him being harmed and will they be able to find the missing pearls before Old Gold and those on the side of evil do? Are they right to put their trust in JJ or will he betray them, given the chance? And most frightening of all, will Spark’s terrible vision of the hell-like burning city come to pass…?

Having left us dangling with the cliffhanger at the end of Dragon Mountain, the writers waste very little time in rushing us headlong into the action at the start of this story. There is a short recap of the ending of Book 1 to refresh the memory of anyone like myself who has not read it recently, and then we are back in the thick of the action. And when I say action, I mean action with a capital A, and then some. With Dylan having been kidnapped before this story even kicks off, the tone of the book is much darker than the first – the jeopardy much greater – and the team now not only needs to find the pearls, without which they will be unable to defeat the Dragon of Death, but they need to find Dylan as a matter of some urgency. As they journey through the Dragon Realm in the hopes of not only finding him, but finding him alive, the remaining children must draw on all of their powers and strengths if they are to be successful.

And it is unclear all of the way through this book as to whether or not they will be successful – as you might expect, with Book 3 not due until next year. As the balance of power shifts between one side and the other, the fight against evil is not a straightforward one by any means and it is also starting to become evident that the divisions between friend and foe are starting to blur. Billy is a trusting soul – he wants to believe the best of everyone around him but it starting to become increasingly clear that he is not always wise to do so.

This is an incredible story and – as has been the case with several sequels I have read in the last few weeks – is even better than the first in the series. From start to finish, I found it hard to put this down – it is one of those just one more chapter books that I would’ve devoured in one sitting were it not for the fact that I started reading it early evening yesterday and – old lady that I am – made myself go to bed at a sensible time, finishing it this morning in bed with a mug of tea. As I stated earlier, the book finishes on another colossal cliffhanger – this one even more frustrating than the last – but I am a patient woman and I am sure that while September 2021 seems a terribly long way off now, it will be worth the wait. As for my author friend, who chooses not to read sequels – they do not know what they are missing.

Enormous thanks go to Simon and Schuster Publishers and Net Galley for allowing me to read this in advance of publication on March 4th. A legendary 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved Dragon Mountain, and this is even better! The friendships are tested to the limit as the dragon bonded teens are forced to fight their way through the Dragon Realm of the past to find their lost friend, and along the way, they need to work out how to battle the Dragon of Death to avoid a dark, destroyed future. But what happens when the person you think would never hurt you does the unthinkable. I already can’t wait for book 3 and this one isn’t even out yet!
