Emotional Journey Rollercoaster....
Feel good escapism from Sarah Morgan in this emotional journey rollercoaster. A great cast of colourful characters populate the storyline and some edgy, often humorous writing. An uplifting adventure awaits.

This is a lovely read that will make you feel summery no matter the weather. Even with minus temperatures in February I was dreaming of my own road trip across the states in a gorgeous sports car. Sarah Morgan writes brilliant books without fail and usually focuses on a romance theme but it was lovely to read something of hers where this took a bit of a back seat. I'd love to meet Kathleen and hear all about her life and travels. I recommend reading this when you need a bit of escapism and want to be enjoying a holiday in the sun yourself.

As a huge fan of Sarah Morgan, The Summer Seekers did not disappoint! A story about a woman that’s coming to the end of her life but is fearless and still full of adventure. Kathleen travels Route 66 with the help of much younger Martha. They bring out the best in each other, with Kathleen pushing Martha to put herself back out there with men after a bad divorce and Martha encouraging Kathleen to get closure on the past. Meanwhile back home, Kathleen’s careful daughter Liza is working through her own marriage troubles. All of the characters were very strong and likeable and you’re routing for all of them to get their happy ending. I loved how supportive Sean was of his marriage to Liza and the relationship that grew between Liza and Kathleen over time. It was an entertaining read with a definite feel good factor. Another great book by Sarah Morgan!

What an adventure this book has been for me. I loved it and did not want it to end.
The Summer Seekers is an uplifting, feel good story where every character is on a journey of its own. It made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes but it also made me cry and fill myself with hope

This is a must read for all . It has all one needs: love, betrayal, long lost friendships, soul searching and self discovery

I am a confirmed fan of Sarah Morgan’s writing and couldn’t wait to get my teeth into her latest novel. The cover spoke of summer, sea and a ride in a fast convertible - just the tonic for reading on a dull and snowy day. As I expected, I was quickly drawn into the world of Sarah’s characters.

The story focuses on three women and their ambitions. Kathleen is an eighty-year-old who is not ready to settle down to the life in a residential home that her daughter has planned for her. Liza, Kathleen’s aforementioned daughter, is doing her best to be a good wife and mother to her husband and their teenaged twins, but realising that there must be more to life than this. Martha is a 25-year-old divorcee who is back home living with her unsupportive parents and unsure of what the future holds for her. Kathleen, a former travel show presenter, decides that she wishes to fulfil her ambition to drive along Route 66 in a red sports car before it’s too late. Much against Liza’s wishes, she advertises for a companion and driver for the trip, and Martha takes the job in spite of having little driving experience or having been to America before. As the two ladies travel across the USA, they learn lots about each other, and, at the same time, come to realise a few things about themselves. In spite of the distance they are apart, mother and daughter also begin to understand each other better than ever before.

I loved this book from the first page to the last, and would recommend it to other readers as a great summer read. The three central characters are all fascinating in their own way. I loved the relationship that developed between Kathleen and Martha, who understood each other so well in spite of the age difference, and Kathleen’s matchmaking! It was also great to witness the growing understanding between Kathleen and Liza, as well as Liza’s acknowledgement that her own situation had to change. There are also men, past and present, in this story, but they are definitely supporting characters. I was amazed by Martha’s ability to jump into that unfamiliar car and drive out of the centre of Chicago, but then spent the first half of the book worrying about how she was going to cope with the traffic in Los Angeles, having witnessed that first-hand. This was a great heartwarming story, not lacking in humour but also full of emotion. It had me in tears more than once, but smiling by the end.

This is the first book I've read by this author, but I will be looking at her others now after this fun and engaging read.
I love a road trip story, so I was immediately drawn to the premise of The Summer Seekers. It helped that I got to read the opening of the book from a link that came with an HQ Stories newsletter.
Kathleen is a delightful octogenarian; a stark contrast to her frazzled and overworked daughter, Liza, who's juggling work, children and a marriage that might not be on top form. After a break-in and an altercation, Kathleen decides to go on holiday, a road trip across the US, much to her daughter's concern and disapproval.
Martha; in her early twenties and running from a family who don't appreciate her and a failed relationship applies for the position of Kathleen's driver and the two set of on route 66.

The story follows the two women as they get to know each other, and there are some really touching moments. Kathleen's past feeds into the narrative and links with Liza who leaves her family to their own devices and takes off to her mother's house for time on her own.

The book is fun and enjoyable with enough going on to keep you turning the pages. I didn't, perhaps, get a great sense of their physical journey, but I suppose it isn't a travel guide. Their emotional journey made up for it.
The ending worked well and left me wondering what happened to a couple of characters. Would love Martha's story to continue!

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for this advanced copy.

This story involves three women of various ages on a voyage of discovery. 80 year old Kathleen and recently divorced Martha embark on a road trip across Route 66, whilst Liza, Kathleen’s daughter has her own adventure in her mums cottage. This is a fantastic story of family, loss and love which stirs the emotions of the reader. Well worth the read.

Thelma and Louise eat your heart out! When Kathleen, an 80-year old former TV travel presenter and Martha, a 20 something newly divorced woman pair up to drive across Route 66, you might expect tales of mishaps and scenery. In fact this book brings you a study in relationships and feelings, exploring Kathleen's difficult relationship with her daughter and Martha's lack of direction and confidence. The side story of Lisa, Kathleen's daughter and her escape from a mundane life of family organisation and lists is interesting and will resonate with many who are living this life. Kathleen is a fabulous character - humorous, feisty and adventurous - just sharp enough to stop this book becoming too sentimental. Although the story concludes well, I felt there should be more to come from these characters. I want to know what happens to them next! A fantastic summer read!

Wow I loved this book. The characters, storyline and writing were fantastic. I have only recently found Sarah Morgan as an author. Her books are easy to read and always has characters who are relatable. I shall be reading a lot more of her work. I highly recommend this book.

Wow absolutely loved the summers seekers from start to finish! Three very different woman, three very different agendas but surprisingly similar in their needs! The wonderful eccentric Kathleen, her daughter Liza caught up in the drudge of family life and Martha recoiling from a divorce and lack of self worth! A road trip like no other,Route 66 for Kathleen and Martha and for Liza her own voyage of discovery based back at her mother’s cottage! Wonderful descriptions of the route taken, sights seen, food eaten and the lovely hitchhiker who joined the merry duo! A road trip like no other a real journey of a lifetime that ultimately changes all their lives for the better would so love to read a sequel!
Thank you netgalley for this early read.

Such a beautiful story, Martha and Kathleen are such engaging characters from the get go and you want to follow them along the way. Bring in the extra people of Liza, Josh, Ruth among others and it keeps you wrapped into each story seeing which way these things could finish.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which tells the story of young at heart octogenarian Kathleen who hires 25 year old Martha to drive her on a Route 66 road trip. And they leave Kathleen’s uptight daughter Liza at home. These three ladies are our main characters.

I warmed to Kathleen and Martha immediately, but it took me a while to warm to Liza. This was my first book by Sarah Morgan but I enjoyed it so much that I’ve already bought two more by her now! It’s a lighthearted read that will appeal to fans of the women’s fiction genre.

I adored this book! From the very first page I was invested in the characters and their story and devoured the book in one sitting! What a fabulous premise - an 80 year old woman and a 25 year old, recently divorced, woman driving across the USA on the iconic Route 66 - Thelma and Louise eat your heart out! This is a heartwarming story of family, love, loss, friendships and discovering yourself. The three women in this book - Kathleen, a feisty 80 year old widow, Liza, her harassed daughter juggling her responsibilities and Martha, a recently divorced 25 year old, lacking in self confidence - all go on a journey of self discovery. I felt as if I was sat in the car with Kathleen and Martha on their epic road trip as Sarah Morgan described the cities, food and landscape of America.
The second thread of the book is about Liza, who grabs the opportunity to take a well deserved time out from her hectic life as a wife, mum to teenage twin girls and her job as an art teacher - and forge a closer understanding of her mother, reevaluate her prioritises in life and her relationships.
I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it. Sarah Morgan, as always, does not disappoint. Read it with a glass of something chilled, comfy clothes on and a smile on your face!

Theres an emotional gulf between Liza and her mother Kathleen, they can't connect on a personal level. It doesn't help that all Liza can do is try to protect her mother from her wild and adventurous nature; 80 is too old for living on her own in an old rambling house let alone venturing further. Kathleen dreams of the past when she travelled around the world and doesn't want to lose her independence. She dreams of one last adventure and is determined to carry it through enlisting Martha in her plans. I loved this story in which you could feel Kathleen's zest for life infuse those around her.

Kathleen is 80 and has lived an adventurous life presenting a travel programme The Summer Seekers. Her daughter Liza is entirely different and does everything for her family. Martha needs a job and when she sees Kathleen has advertised for a driver to go along Route 66 she jumps at the chance. A lovely book and would definitely recommend

Kathleen, an adventurous octogenarian, decides she wants to travel Route 66 after an unfortunate incident with a skillet and a drunken intruder, problem is she can no longer drive. Much to her loving but anxious daughter's dissatisfaction Kathleen hires lost soul Martha for the job.
This book is truly gorgeous, the relationships between the characters are touching and this book soothed my own grandma-shaped hole at times particularly when reading about the closeness between Martha and her own grandma.

First of all, Sarah Morgan is my queen of chick lit and romance genre and I was never disappointed with her book.

When I got an email that my request for an ARC have been aproved I was so exited! I nearly got up to do my happy dance on the bus!

The idea of a summer road trip adventure was genius! As you surely know I enjoy “book travels” nearly as much as I love the real ones.

One of the main characters, eighty years old Kathleen has won my heart within first few pages of the book. Such a loveable and brave woman!

Although Kathleen was great, Martha is a woman after my own heart. I can definitely relate to her. Even though I’m happily married we have many similarities.
One or them being a life motto “fake it till you make it”.
Also we both love analogies way too much. My friends are often getting fed up with my way of explaining things.

The whole story starts in Cornwall which is a wonderful place to set a book in but it gets even better when the author take us on a road trip down the legendary Route 66.

I really enjoyed “The Summer Seekers” and spent couple of pleasant evening reading it.
I only rated it 4/5 because Sarah Morgan’s book usually make me cry with laughter but I missed the usual humour in this one.
Nonetheless, it’s a really great story and I’m sure many of you will love it.

Sarah Morgan writes lovely books about friendships across the generations. "The Summer Seekers" is set in Cornwall, London and the USA during an eventful summer for Kathleen, Liza and Martha. Of course there is romance as well. There are also lessons about work/life balance, living life to the full and parenting. Although the story is fairly predictable the characters are wonderful and the narrative bustles along. A great relaxing, escapist read.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.
