While it took me a while to engage .. I admit I was over thinking the mythic tale at the beginning of this profound and moving novel ..I soon became drawn in .. the dynamic of the family of the boy who disappears and the attractive but intuitive police man Sergio .. grappling with his own intimate issues .. all added up to sheer and deft plotting and characterizations. Truly one of best novels I've read this lockdown year or so .. the drawing together of it all is mind boggling.

The funniest thing is that I read in English a book by an Italian writer (I thought he was Spanish)
I loved it as it's well written, clever and well plotted.
Interesting characters and a solid plot.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

It is difficult to find a novel as good as any of the early works of Andrea Camilleri or Donna Leon. This is one of those rare finds. An absolute treat. An irresistibly good book.
Commissario Sergio Striggio has a dying father and a boyfriend he struggles to admit to having. He is called to a site where a young boy has gone missing. So begins the unraveling of a mystery in a novel that is full of tension, twists, wit and wisdom.
There is a tender beauty and a rich humanity in the author's style. I'm not sure I will find a better novel this year.
