This is an excellent book for helping children understand key issues around the importance of natural balance within ecosystems, conservation, and rewilding. It highlights the impact of human intervention both in originally killing off the wolves in Yellowstone and then reintroducing them. It's also clear in addressing the environmental impact of the loss of a key predator and most importantly how that can be restored through careful intervention. Beautifully illustrated throughout this is a well written and informative book. I really enjoyed this.

Fourteen wolves is a beautifully illustrated book exploring the re-introduction of wolves to Yellowstone Park in 1995 and the positive impact this has had on the ecosystem. The story is told in a lovely narrative style, not just a series of ‘fun facts', and this pulls you into the lives of these wonderful creatures and indeed the park itself, making you feel like you are right there with them. The story is paired with some really gorgeous and evocative illustrations that add mood and depth.

I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely book, and feel like I learned a lot too. Who knew that wolves could change the course of the river! Sometimes the font was a little hard to read, but I was reading on a small ipad which obviously had an impact, and I am unsure what size the book itself (and thereby the font) will be. I really loved that it felt more like a story book than a non-fiction title, while still conveying an interesting and important ecological message. The only part that saddened me was the page with the wee histories of the first fourteen wolves and what happened to them later. So many were shot, illegally and legally, and although this was very briefly touched on in the story, it was sad to see it laid bare like this. I felt like I wanted a bit more explanation on that page. But this doesn't detract from what was overall a really lovely book
