I Know What I Saw wastes no time in jumping into the action. The fast-paced start straight away grabs attention and launches into what is ultimately a very unique plot. The main character - Xander is very likeable, his narration engaging and believable. There are points where you're on the edge of your seat - at one point he's hiding in a house and it's so perfectly descriptive that it's hard not to get fully engrossed. It doesn't take a clear path to the conclusion either, there are a few points where there's no clear outline to the end which is great to keep attention. There are moments where there is a little too much repetition, and the generic 'murder mystery boy turned good' becomes a bit bland, but then as soon as it starts teetering off slightly, something happens that snaps you straight back into the storyline. As he starts to regain his memories, so does the readers and you slowly start getting the insight you've been waiting for. The end feels like everything culminates very quickly - and although it's wonderful that you suddenly get the answers you're craving, there isn't enough resolve or fall out to be completely satisfying. Would be great if just ONE more chapter could be added to clarify what happened after and neaten everything up!

I liked the pace of this book, while it was not a fast paced thriller, I liked the mystery surrounding the characters. It gripped me from the beginning, and kept me curious till the end.

An enjoyable story if you like psychological thrillers.

Started well a bit slow to get going then rather long winded with a disappointing ending. Not for me.

A slow paced book but worth every page turn . A well written book about a homeless man and how he has repressed his past life which comes back to haunt him until peace is found .
Thoroughly enjoyed this and highly recommend 4.5 stars

A very interesting read, especially with such an unreliable narrator that keeps you guessing about his memories. Well paced and great characterisation. This is my first read from the author but I'm excited to try other books.

Psychological crime about a murder saw by a witness. Witness there, you say? Then where is the problem? The problem is that the witness is a homeless man with some issues. Also, there is no body.

I find this novel being interesting, if a bit sad, entry to the life and mind of a homeless (and maybe hopeless) man, who is in a prison of his own making (read: psychological reasons). The idea behind the plot is fresh and informative and it tackles some prejudices well, while staying realistic. One of the realistic points is that there is an unreliable narrator - because really, can a man with issues like Xander Shute be a believable guy? Or can he?
Also, his reasons to live like a homeless person ring quite true. I like these psychological aspects very much.
Unfortunately, an unreliable narrator can complicate the smooth mystery ride from the sleuthing/mystery-solving point.
So, the reading experience can really differ based from what a reader expects. As for me - while I expected more crime elements, I am overwhelmed by this strange compassion and sadness towards this well-portrayed main character. Fingers crossed, Xander.

Absolutely gripping. A total page turner of a story. Tightly plotted and wholly convincing. Read and enjoy!

I absolutely loved this! The only thing that frustrated me was the fact that I wanted more. The plot was so interesting - and without giving much away - it had just the right amount of twists and turns. I would definitely recommend this to other readers!

With thanks to the author, Bloomsbury Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC in return for my honest and unbiased review.

Very imaginative storyline, and well executed by the author for the most part. The books starts off at a really fast pace and grabbed my attention from the off, however I was a little disappointed by what I felt was a rather abrupt end that didn't really deliver on the early promise.

Whilst I really enjoyed the author's beautiful use of language in some places, in others I found that the book was a little wordy (to paraphrase his reference to Proust in the text). Several times I felt that I had read a number of pages without anything of note being mentioned, and struggled to stay invested in the story as a result. I also found myself feeling less empathy towards the main protagonist as the story evolved.

I enjoyed this book. The plot is good and I questioned our narrators account throughout. I was a little disappointed by the end but it's still a good book. Definitely worth a read.

I really enjoyed this. I love the fact that the point of view isn’t one that we traditionally see in books and that make it all the more interesting. I thought the pacing was spot on - in fact, the author pretty much throws you straight into the action from the first chapter.

I think this is a well-plotted and original thriller and highly recommend.

Another brilliant book by Imran Mahmood - well-written, gripping, with interesting multi-faceted characters. I was hooked from the first pages and raced through to the end.

This book pulled me into its pages so quickly and there was no putting it down until the end. It draws out so many emotions and I found there were lessons along the way.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

Smart, pacey thriller that leaves you with a lot to think about particularly around our own prejudices about race and criminality. This is the first book I've read by this author but I will definitely be reading more.

I Know What I Saw by Imran Mahmood is an intriguing and interesting story of a wealthy banker Xander Shute who after a series of events takes to living on the streets.
Then he remembers witnessing the death of a young woman in a house he has taken shelter in. The police don’t believe him until they find out a death occurred in that London property 30 years ago. Xander is then being charged with murder but his memories are flawed.
Highly recommended

Good psychological thriller with some interesting themes and surprises.
Xander, an ex banker living on the streets, sees what he is convinced is a murder but is it?
Themes of mental illness, homelessness , trauma and death are exceptionally well handled by Imran Mahood.
Despite these difficult topics and some distressing scenes I enjoyed this book.
Highly recommended 4 Stars ⭐️

It's great to be in a position to recommend much more diverse books to our young people at school. Building the senior school library as a place where students actually come and find books that they want to read as opposed to books that teachers think they ought to read is an important responsibility and one we take really seriously.
Books like this are such a positive move as they will appeal to a broader set of readers than we are usually attracting. Dealing with modern issues in a clear and captivating way with a strong narrative voice and characters that the students can relate to is critical as we move forwards. This book is both an intelligent and compelling read that will hold even the most reluctant reader's attention and keep them turning the pages long into the night. It keeps the reader on their toes and ensures that you give it your full attention too. I found myself thinking about its characters and events even when I wasn't reading it and looking forward to snatching kore time with it and I hope that my students feel the same. An accessible, gripping and engrossing read that I can't recommend highly enough. Will absolutely be buying a copy for the library and heartily recommending it to both staff and students.
