A laugh out loud, feelgood and heartwarming story about bubbling anger, exploding smoothies, elephant poo and wedding cakes! What's not to love about this new series by Maz Evans!

Scarlett Fife has a lot to be angry about: her step dad has lost his job, mum has to work extra hard to make ends meet and burns every meal she cooks, and there is a new girl in school, threatening Scarlett's chances of taking home Rainbow class's hamster for the weekend.

Join Scarlett in her plight to control her bubbling anger and navigate her way through the labyrinth of nonsensical adult words and sayings, this book will leave your sides splitting from start to end.

The perfect remedy give the current climate. This book will resonate with many!

This is a great story. It is funny, with jokes that both adults and children will enjoy, but also addresses some serious issues too.

When anger builds up in Scarlett, it has to come out somehow, often with disastrous (but very funny) consequences. As such, this book contains an insight into some of the very real issues that can upset and anger children, as well as suggesting some ways that could help get things back under control.

There are some brilliant characters in this book and I was especially glad to see some different types of family, without this having to be the main focus of the story.

The Exploding Life of Scarlett Fife is a rather emotional roller coaster of a book- for Scarlett Fife. Though she is only 10, Scarlett has big feelings that bubble in her tummy and make her scream, shout and have almighty tantrums. From not getting the class’s pet hamster, to injustice and to William U- all of these are guaranteed to have explosive ends!
Scarlett is loved by many and all want her to learn to control her temper so she is taught to take deep breaths, to pretend to blow out candles and to talk to teddy bears...not all of these help when those tummy bubbles rise to the surface though.
When things literally start exploding around Scarlett as the bubbles rise, she worries about what will happen to her. Learning to control her emotions is the only thing she can do.

This entirely heart warming tale features strong emotions that are perfectly normal...it is learning to understand them that is tricky. Knowing what makes us angry can help us to know when we need to calm down and remove ourselves. A self help guide for children with anger issues is held within the pages of this book with hilarious moments!

Maz Evans has this enjoyable style of writing that allows characters to float off the page and into your world. Scarlett and her emotions felt so real and I felt her anger, her frustration, her sadness and her joy at every event. though I am glad to have missed the exploding poo event!

2021 shall be known as the year of Maz Evans. With Vi Spy being published as well as The Exploding Life of Scarlett Fife, there is no better time to be reading Children’s fiction.

Feeling angry? Got BIG FEELINGS? Hardly surprising at the moment, is it? But with our little ones struggling just as much, finding book characters who not only reflect their feelings but who can help address them are invaluable.

Meet Scarlett Fife. Nine-year-old Scarlett feels that a lot of things in her life are unfair. But when her anger starts to make things explode, Scarlett begins to worry. Can she find a way to let her anger out with causing chaos...or even better, stay calm?

This book is perfect for fans of Charlie Changes Into a Chicken. Not only is it funny, full of warmth and hugely relatable, it tackles the important and big emotion that affects us all - ANGER! Through humour and heart, Maz Evans explores how it is perfectly okay and completely normal to feel angry but it's how we manage it that matters...something that never comes easy!
Scarlett is a great character surrounded by other great characters. I love her real take on the things that annoy her-rightly so-and her strength of character. Maisie is a great best friend, Scarlett's aunties' are full of hilarious wisdom and William U and his simpering mother would make anyone want to explode. I also particularly love the sensitive portrayal of Scarlett's mum and the nod to the endless juggling of parenting life.

The physical explosions are huge fun! There are definite echoes of Matilda with Scarlett's exploding power and Ms Pitt-Bull (another strong character) and yet the story feels fresh and contemporary. The only problem is, it's not being released until May. So get pre-ordering or explode with excitement...

A big thank you to Netgalley and Hachette for allowing me the chance to read and review. The Exploding Life of Scarlett Fife is now available to pre-order.

I am beyond thrilled that the legend that is Max Evans is giving her witty, laugh out loud genius to the 6-9 age range. Scarlett is a very likeable and engaging character whom young readers will relate to. Life is presenting her with challenges and BIG FEELINGS, one of which is causing explosions when she is angry. Thank you Maz for giving us your heartwarming and hilarious style for younger readers. Thank goodness there are more adventures with Scarlett to come as she is sure to be a favourite. Now roll on publication day so I can share with my class!

Absolutely, brilliantly funny! When the first line makes you laugh out loud you know you're in for a treat! Scarlett Fife and her struggles with BIG FEELINGS is relatable to children and grown-up children alike. Throw in some misunderstood interpretations about big words, fancy sayings and prosecco arms and you've got yourself another hilarious, heartwarming read by the fantastically clever and tremendous Maz Evans. Never have I awoken at 4 am to finish a book, until now....

This is without a doubt one of the funniest children's books I have ever read and a fantastic version of school life. I am a teacher and this is the first book I've ever found that has represented school, the way children behave and the things they say so accurately - it had me laughing out loud throughout. The fun storyline of Scarlett discovering she makes things explode when she is very angry was complimented by a hilarious cast of family, friends and teachers. Particular highlights were William U and his 'syndromes' meaning he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to because his mum is the class TA; the shame of being put on 'the cloud' for making poor choices; Freddie and his 'poosport'; positivity points (and their unfair distribution) and the fight over who got to take Mr Nibbles, the class pet, home for the weekend.

Not only was it funny, but also tackled bigger issues of friendship, family, managing 'big feelings' and individuality. There was a really strong plot but great characters - this is definitely a book every school child and teacher should read (and parents would love it too!). Fabulous writing.

Another wonderful offering from the delight that is Maz Evans.

Scarlett Fife is a little girl who has anger issues. And these anger issues are causing her to literally explode things. The anger she feels is justified and over things that could happen to a nine year old girl. It teaches you that it is ok to be angry but how you manage it is important. It also delves into the fact that grown ups have responsibilities and may forget things that are important to children. But that doesn’t mean that grown ups care less about their children.

A wonderful read book that is the first in a new series and I cannot wait to read more of Scarlett Fife’s adventures.

An amusing and entertaining book, perfect for reading aloud, or sharing at bedtime. The Exploding Life of Scarlett Fife is a humorous and engaging read, which will delight and amuse both children and adults.

Scarlett is having trouble keeping her big feelings in check. After an unfortunate incident involving a hamster and the local vicar, she risks losing out on a trip to an amusement park unless she learns to manage her temper. Unfortunately for her, things have a habit of exploding out of control when it comes to her feelings. Can Scarlett learn to manage her explosive emotions, or will she lose both her temper and her trip?

The Exploding Life of Scarlett Fife feels fresh and modern, with lots of different family set-ups and dynamics. It contains lots of jokes, which will amuse parents and adult readers, as well as entertaining young readers. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
