What a wonderful thriller this is! I really loved it so much, and I was gripped by the audiobook narrator's voice, which was amazing. She really brought the book to life. This is a long book, which I listened to while I was painting my house.

The story is about Lt Eve Dallas and her team, who start off investigating a murder, which leads to many different paths to investigate. Eve is now one of my favourite book characters, and I love the relationship she has with her partner. They are so good together, and very passionate! I like that this book is an all-rounder, and it has everything in it you could want - it is a crime thriller, but it is also about family, friendship, romance and passion, as well as other things, and it has an interesting story, with a lot of action and suspense. It is entertaining and heartwarming. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I quite enjoyed this book as I've long been a fan of Eve Dallas and Roarke. However, much as I love the characters I'm beginning to find the books a bit formulaic. There's always a couple of murders, the premises are usually owned by Roarke and Eve always gets her perp. Worth a read but don't expect any surprises.

Faithless in Death by J.D. Robb is a gripping and suspenseful murder mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story is well-crafted with an intricate plot and a great cast of characters. The author's writing style is engaging and atmospheric, with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.

One of the strengths of the novel is the way the author explores complex themes such as power, racism, misogyny, and bullying. These issues are handled with sensitivity and insight, making for a thought-provoking and emotionally charged reading experience.

The audiobook narration by Susan Ericksen is excellent, with each character given a distinct voice and personality. The pacing is spot on, and the narration perfectly captures the tension and excitement of the story.

Overall, Faithless in Death is a must-read for fans of murder mysteries and thrillers. It is a well-crafted, suspenseful, and thought-provoking novel that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. Highly recommended

I love the Eve Dallas series from J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts, and have read most of the series to date (still cannot believe there this is the 52nd book). However, this is the first audiobook of hers that I have listened to. As usual, the story is excellent, with the usual slew of well-loved characters. It grips you from start to finish, however, the personal interactions between the characters that were there in her earlier books were missing for me.

While the story was good, I did not like the narration on the audiobook and found the tone used for Eve to be grating. Safe to say that I would like to go on reading future Eve Dallas books, but probably skip the audio ones!

Audio version of this book 📚- Unfortunately I couldn’t finish this book due to the absolutely terrible narrator! I’ve listened to over 600 audiobooks and this narrator has got to be one of the worst to the point where even though I was enjoying the book I just couldn’t listen to her voice anymore 😫 she seemed to be shouting all of the time and you couldn’t differentiate between any of the characters, I will read more by this author and more of this series but not an audiobook if it is the same narrator

Really loved this book - it was well read and listening to audiobooks is now my favourite way to relax and link into a fictitious world. Everything about this was my cup of tea, I would recommend to anyone who loves a good thriller.

Really enjoyable. Eve is faced with bringing down a cult to save a vulnerable young woman. Is their reach too strong for her to break? An engrossing read.

I'm starting to get into audiobooks more as they have plenty of advantages over other reading media. This book, Faithless in Death beckoned to me as I am attempting to read the full series, but so far I have only managed books one, two, twenty-seven, fifty, and now fifty-two.

In Faithless in Death the story opens with homicide detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas completing the paperwork from her most recent case when she and her partner in crime, Detective Delia Peabody are called to the murder scene of sculptor Ariel Byrd, killed by a hammer, the back of her head caved in. With only a discarded coffee container and a take-out bag at the top of the stairs containing two muffins, there is a distinct lack of clues as to who may have killed her. They contact the person who dialled 911 who turns out to be a woman named Gwendolyn Huffman. The investigation leads to the unravelling of a minefield of atrocities, terrifying acts, secrets and lies linking to a cult called Natural Order.

This is a captivating and original story. Dripping with palpable tension and a discernable feeling of apprehension I really felt the chills from the author's fabulous writing. With an exceedingly strong plot and comfortable pacing, the mystery was absorbing and compelling. There were abundant twists and turns as the plot unfolded, and the story begged for an exceptional bunch of characters which they mostly were. The author dropped in quite a lot of brutality and used abuse, drugs and violence and numerous other things; power, racism, misogyny, bullying, and kidnapping to full effect. It’s a very intense addition to this terrific series and the conclusion was so dramatic with the multiple threads tying together very well.

The audiobook was narrated by Susan Ericksen and listening to the story was a good decision. I thought it was narrated well and the narrator brought the necessary oomph to the proceedings, giving most of the individuals their own voice and inflections. All things considered, Faithless in Death is a fantastic, highly recommended, gripping mystery/ thriller from J. D. Robb in her 'In Death' series and I am looking forward to seeing what Eve Dallas gets into next in book fifty-three, Forgotten in Death.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Hachette Audio via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Getting into Audio books for when I am doing my daily walk, and as I enjoy a good thriller this sounded a good book to try. and I wasn't disappointed
From a couple of things in the book I realised that this edition was probably part of a series but Wow I didn't realise this book was Book number 52 in a female detective series and I love a good series so will be looking out for others.
Having read other reviews from readers who have followed this series these are varied and comments of not as good as previous books have made me keen to read the others as I did enjoy this one

The storyline was believable and I soon found myself liking the main character Detective Eve Dallas , The story has it all murder, conspiracy ,rape abduction and a fanatical cult it got to a couldn't stop listening stage when I got back from my walk so was doing chores etc while still listening.

My only negative was the narrator confused me with the accents and characters but in her defence there was a lot of characters to cover

In this, the 52nd book in the In Death series (yep. 52nd! FIFTY TWO BOOKS IN THIS SERIES SO FAR! That's two books a year since the first, Naked in Death, was first published in 1995!), Lt Eve Dallas is enjoying a lovely Spring morning when she gets a call. There's been a murder is mid-21st century New York. An artist has been found, her head bashed in by her own hammer. But as Eve and her team look into the murder, what looks like a lover's quarrel on the surface turns much darker as they discover their prime suspect is a member of Natural Order, a religious order that, the more Eve looks, the more she sees that this is a cult with ties to white supremacy, misogyny, racism, sexism, homophobia and religious fanaticism.

But how far is Eve and her team willing to go to bring Natural Order down and where does the murder of a lesbian artist fit in? Does it go all the way to the top?

I think this came at the right time for me as I had fun with this. It's a whirlwind of a thriller and these are the type of Police procedural thrillers I enjoy. The one where the pace picks up quite quickly and you are running. Yes, I know that this series did start life a romance suspense with a futurist twist, but you can tell now that these are more back burner and the case is front and centre.

This case hits a little closer to home than most. Yes, there are a ton of triggers (racism, sexism, homophobia, domestic abuse, rape, murder [of course] and others.) but with the events of the past few years with MAGA, QAnon, the KKK and the public's growing obsession with True Crime, this felt very relevant to the current times.

There are things that did let this down. This isn't perfect (the narrator of the audiobook nails some characters's voices, but goes a little OTT with others. But she nails Eve's and as this is a Eve Dallas thriller, I'll forgive her. And while this book does stand on its own and you can jump in without knowing the previous books in series, there are occasions where titbits from previous books are dropped in), but this is a solid Police procedural thriller that I hugely enjoyed.

Plus, comparing this newest edition to the first instalment in the series, Naked in Death, which suffer from Product Of Its Time syndrome and the issue of consent, it good to see the JD Robb is growing and adapting.

Because I did enjoy this and I did enjoy Naked In Death when I audiobooked it last year, I do have plans to try and read a few in the coming few months (I have Dark In Death [book 46 in series] and Golden in Death [book 50 in the series] on my kindle, though I am leaning more to Golden than Dark) and if both go well, I might get the In Death Christmas Collection (I like reading murder set round Christmas time. Sue me), which have two novels and one short story. I am going to try to read more of this series, but I suspect I might be more happier with this series newer instalments than her earlier instalments. We'll just have to wait and see how I go...

You call it The Natural Order, I call it the cult of Scientology.
You call the leader Wilkie, I called him David Miscavige.

Narrator 3 stars, Story 5
I first started this book a week ago and stopped at the 19% mark because the narrator was annoying me, but then picked it up again today and Im so glad I did. Even though I feel the narrator was an over actor with some characters the story itself was really really good!!!

I've never heard of J. D Robb's before, but have read 2 Nora Roberts books. e

Anyway... I've enjoyed this story so much I went over to Audible and purchased Naked In Death which I'll be starting ASAP

Faithless in Death has everything I love in this series.

At the beginning of the book, I thought the case would just be about a murder, but it is about so much more. As Dallas and Peabody uncover a lot during the investigation. I was utterly and completely gripped. There is a group in Faithless in Death that reminded me of several "religious groups" - one in partially that ends with ology with the control over members. As well as its controls on how people view it.

In Faithless in Death, we get to see some characters that haven't be around for a couple of books. I love the catch up with Marvis. It like a palette cleanser for the lies and murder.  Also, I love how supportive all the woman are of each other. Especially the moment in the conference room with Dallas, Peabody, Reo and Nadine.

The audiobook is narrated by Susan Ericksen. I enjoyed Susan performance, as each character sounds different and clear. Although I didn't think some of the characters sounded that way, but it does suit them.

Faithless in Death is 13 hours and 42 minutes long. It has an interesting crime/mystery with a great mix of new and old characters. A lot of character you will like and love, And a handful you will love to hate. There is humour, friendship, action and a sprinkling of smut.

One of my favourite aspect of Faithless in Death is we get to see the good work of Ducus. The woman shelter Roarke and Eva has built.

My Rating for Faithless in Death is 5 out of 5.

To me Faithless in Death has been a return to form for JD Robb. With the last couple of books I’ve read them, then instantly forgotten them and never been tempted to go back for a re-read – an unusual occurrence for me. With this book I couldn’t make up my mind who I thought the murderer was and was kept guessing right up to end, not only who did it but the motive behind the crime so I’ll definitely be reading Faithless again to see what clues I’ve missed. With a misogynistic, sexist, racist cult – in fact throw in every form of ‘ist’ and I’m sure Stanton Wilkie and his merry men at Natural Order will be against it – what starts as a simple crime of passion soon turns out to be the tip of a iceberg that leads to something a whole lot sinister and malevolent. Where this book loses points with me though is the part I usually enjoy the most and this is when Dallas is interviewing her suspects after they’ve been caught. This time it just all felt a bit anti-climactic for me & fell flat leaving me feeling so disappointed. I just expected something more after such a good plot!

This was the first time I’ve listened to one of J.D. Robb’s books using audible instead of reading it and I don’t think I’ll be listening to anymore by this particular narrator. First of all she made the character of Dallas sound angry all the time. After I got a few chapters this didn’t bother me as much but I did struggle when she was voicing the other characters and found myself wincing a couple of times. For me it interrupted the flow and I had to to ‘rewind’ several times when I lost the thread of what was happening because I’d been distracted by the change in voice. I listen to audio books regularly and I know that some narrators can switch between characters, both male and female easily without any issues but this one just didn’t do it for me.

This is my first ever Audio book - I am not sure that this will be a medium for me in the future
I have such a clear idea in my head as to the characters' "voices" that were not quite met by the narrator
but that being said I did really enjoy another dip into the world of Eve and Roarke .

When a young woman's murder is reported Eve is soon drawn into a world of a Cult ............... one that thrives on misogyny , kidnapping and impregnation of young fertile women , slave labour .......... where to be different in any way , especially sexually is open to "re-alignment" .
Eve along with Roarke and the usual "gang" must work with multiple bodies ........ from the FBI to Interpol to cut their way through to the cancer of this horrendous cult .......... time is of the essence .

This an excellent addition to the "In Death" series and I look forward to the next book in the series .

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced Audio copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

This is book 52 in the ‘In Death’ series by JD Robb and the book is as good as the original early books. I listened to this book on audio and found it a difference experience form reading the ‘in death’ books, but I did enjoy the novelty of listening to this episode.
All the usual police team are still working at NYSPD and all the other regular cast make an appearance. This is an enjoyable futuristic look at the American police style and it is a fascinating listen.

First ever audio book I've read and what a treat. Of course the Dallas/Roarke world is as wonderful as ever. The blend between kick ass detection and romance with a touch of humour is just what i needed in these dark times. Loved it

In my early twenties I went through several “In Death “ Dallas and Roarke books in quick succession so to be given the chance to revisit this world so many years afterwards was a treat. The bones of what made those early stories so gripping is still there.

World building and technology is used with smooth finesse and the plot is complex and layered. A wide range of characters keeps the story interesting and intriguing. A little less Roarke action than I was accustomed to but we are much further into that particular love match so a mellow acceptance would be authentic.

A thoroughly enjoyable story which might just prod be into catching up into the impressive back catalogue.

The narration was adequate but nothing out of the ordinary in this audio version.

The narrator Susan Ericksen reads this story very much with the Essence of the character Eve Dallas. To the point and very matter of fact. It gives you the feeling right from the start that you were part of Eve and Peabody’s day clumping up the stairs to find the first murdered body. Eve has a prime suspect to take down but complications occur when a group called Natural Order is mentioned.
Secrets in families kept beneath the surface will lead to murder. The narrator and story have a slow pace and it’s not till the second half of the book that the emotion of the narrator comes through and the story really comes alive. I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Yep, another solid ‘In Death’ offering from J.D. Robb.
Solid writing, solid characters, solid plot.

After 52 books, you are certainly safe in the hands of Ms Robb, she always delivers.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
