This book drew me in from the beginning, although it was a little slow. A story of how far a mother would go to protect her son, who has informed her that he killed a man. With parents from different backgrounds, a story that is told in the past and the present, with lies after lies and secrets from both parents, the book unfolds with believable characters. An enjoyable read and I would like to thank the publishers and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

A great read about how our parents and events shape our lives. Every character was well described such that I felt I could understand their behaviour and choices, though not necessarily agreeing with these choices. Children can be so easily misled through lack of guidance or just the desire to "fit in". Lies will always be found out and our consciences will never be quietened until the truth is told. Honesty about our lives past and present and our feelings towards other people or events are best expressed, rather than kept locked away. A mother's love and protection of her children is incredibly strong, so much so that this mother, Sarah, made some poor choices but faced up to them in the end. A very satisfying read.

This is the story of Tom and Sarah Wallace and their fifteen year old son Freddie. It examines the question of how far would you go for your child? Tom and Sarah tell their backstories which links well to the present day situation.

This book hooks you in from the start. One of the things I like best about it is the characterisation. Tom and Sarah are different in every possible way, they’re certainly from opposing planets but that’s what makes it so interesting. They’re like strangers each wearing a mask but we begin to peak behind this and start to see the real them. They both have interesting pasts that we learn piecemeal, some things are very surprising and you wouldn’t think they had it in them! When Freddie is born the family utterly changes and the author presents an intriguing look at their dynamics. The plot is strong and full of twists, we get little frissons of unease and a growing sense of impending disaster. As the storyline progresses we hear more of Sarah’s internal nightmare as her conscience troubles her and she’s torn between protecting and saving her son or facing up to the consequences. The moral dilemma she faces is very interesting and thought provoking. You can sense that she is understandably always on edge. Is Freddie a liar? Is Freddie a liar born of liars? I like the ending of the book even though it is perhaps a bit fortuitous but not beyond the realms of possibility. My one jarring reservation ..... an unsavoury character called Knuckles? Seriously?!!!

Overall, I really enjoyed this well written slow burner psychological thriller, it has a very good premise and plenty of plot twists to keep you invested to the end.

I love all her books and this one was no exception how far would you go to protect your son when he comes home to tell you what he’s done then the nightmare begins. His father Tom wants to do the right thing but Sarah has other ideas the story then goes back in time when they first met and you find out they both have terrible secrets to hide which will be revealed as the story enfolds definitely recommend a real page turner can’t wait for the next one and want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy.

Tom and Sarah......the two main characters and their son Freddie who has committed an awful crime keep you gripped from beginning to end . Lies, more lies and revelations and their consequences are at the centre of this tale. How far would you go to protect your child who has done something dreadful?
I read this in a couple of sittings, found it gripping as I went on the journey with this families problems and the way they tried to solve them. A good read.

I really enjoyed this book. I really connected with all the characters. It's so well written and really makes you think about how lies can effect your life. Small lies, big lies, they all have consequences. Well done on another fantastic book Jane Corry.

Tom and Sarah , an unlikely couple meet and fall in love . From 2 different backgrounds , he public school educated and Sarah having lost her parents at a young age and being brought up in a loveless household by her auntie . She went on to art school and to make ends meet got involved in drug dealing. Eventually after years of trying Sarah becomes pregnant , but at the birth of their son Freddie Tom sees something in her medical notes that tears them apart . There are also secrets and lies on Tom's part , along with his best mate Hugo who was also involved . Sarah becomes good friends with Hugo's wife Olivia , but she appears to be taking over Freddie as a baby , despite having 2 daughters of her own .
As he gets older Freddie's behaviour deteriorates , until one night, when he is a teenager he arrives home late at night with an admission that will devastate them all . Everything changes between everybody as Sarah goes on the run with Freddie , They go and hide in Cornwall but Freddie goes away and rarely contacts his mother , One day Sarah gets news that changes Freddie's mind about hiding . He returns home and gives himself up and things move on from there . Another well written book from this author with many twists as it unfolds .

This is the second Jane Corry book I have read and can honestly say she is now in my top 5 authors. Her books are just so real and the characters so richly drawn without being flowery! I love a book that you pick up at bedtime and then can't put down and you read on into the early hours. If you haven't read any of her books read one but if you can read this one. The actual basis of this story is how far you would be pushed to protect your own child. I felt so much empathy to the characters but the story itself whistled on a fast pace. I as dubious about the actual premise of the story but am so so glad I read it! I eagerly await her next book.

Another corker from Jane Corry. I absolutely love the author's writing style and the way she releases snippets of information throughout the book until the big reveal. Kept me gripped and hooked from start to finish. Brilliant.

The book then takes us back to before Freddie was born to when Sarah and Tom first meet and then the over the years to the present day.

Sarah and Tom’s marriage is troubled long before their son Freddie comes home and says he has done something dreadful. Both his parents have troubled pasts with secrets that they have kept. Both hold very different views as to how they should deal with Freddie. The course of actions that one parent takes will lead to years of heartache.
An interesting book, I got a bit cross with it at times as I didn’t feel things would have happened the way it was told especially the last few chapters. However overall I enjoyed it and it demonstrated perfectly how strong a love that parents can have for a child.

The Lies We Tell is an addictive, enthralling story with real, believable characters in a true to life situation. How would you react if your son told you he'd committed murder?

Another page turner from Jane Cory. Sarah is a young artist just about managing to keep afloat when she meets Tom. He is a complete opposite to her, life follows routines and he works as an actuary. Somehow they fall for each other, although both have their reservations about how well they match up. After a long journey they have a baby boy, Freddie. Life becomes more complicated than they imagine and both have secrets from each other, and so their stories unfold. I read this in a couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was a decent read on the whole, told from past and present perspectives. The cast of characters are a complex bunch with plenty of secrets between them to keep a reader on their toes.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have liked everything this author has written and this was no exception. Great storyline and great characters and a page turner to the end.

Oh my Jane Corry, you have shredded my heart and stolen my Sunday!

Wow, yet another belter from this talented author. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would do exactly the same and my heart aches for poor Freddie and poor Sarah.

I picked this book up on Sunday morning with the intention of reading 2 or 3 chapters as I had 'a lot to do' but I just couldn't put it down and sat and I read and I read and I read.

The Lies We Tell is a fabulous 'what would you do' and much like in previous books it touches on homelessness, prison and the coast - I love these little themes repeating.

This book is the perfect solution to a lockdown Sunday and I lived and loved every page.

Having read some of Janes books before and enjoyed them I was hoping I would enjoy this also. Sadly I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought i would. I felt the story was quite slow and a tad far fetched for me to enjoy it hence the 3 stars.

Whilst I enjoyed the book and the story itself I found I could not warm to some of the characters in it. They seemed to lack depth and although I tried hard I did not feel much compassion for them. A lot of the problems were down to poor parenting and two characters who had experienced this to be together was just too much. As a mother myself I do agree we would do anything for our children but I am not sure that I would protect my child to the extent that Sarah did but of course if you have not been in the position she found herself in you cannot really imagine what you would do.
I love Jane Corry books and she always produces very readable books and this certainly did that. Look forward to more.
