What a refreshing cookery book. Some amazing colourful photos in this book, that just makes you think of summer. The recipes are just joyous and mouth watering. They are the essence of the med. We all need a few of these recipes in our lives. Yasmin gives us snippets of info of various places as we go through the book.
The recipes themselves are simple to understand and follow, there is nothing complicated. Most are quite simple and quick to make.
The food is flavoursome, healthy, yet you will be left wanting more....... You will be left returning to this book again and again. It is an everyday book, not just one of those books you buy and just use it for one perhaps two recipes, this is a book were you will be experimenting with most of the book.

Simply mouthwatering.......

Wow, this is really an amazing cookery book not least because of the stunning photos of not only the dishes but the countryside, people and scenes from the rich culture of Turkey, Greece and Cyprus. I downloaded the book this morning and truly escaped a snowy freezing day to sunnier climes. I love these cookery books that give background to the geography and history of the regions they cover. In this case, Yasmin, touches on the very real crisis of migrants and refugees and the sense of community of locals feeding these individuals risking all for a better life. To this end she helps in a project on the island of Lesvos feeding refugees with foods to remind them of home with available produce.

I just love cookery books for reading in their own right and getting new ideas. Feeling totally inspired I have already baked the Citrus Cake and enjoyed with a cup of tea and made a Winter Coleslaw living in a village which grows all the requisite ingredients plus, this weekend I shall be tackling recipes involving red and Hispi cabbage, also locally grown. Some of the ingredients are more specialist and need tracking down but there is plenty that anyone can do using UK ingredients. Over time I shall try most of the recipes featured, some are already well known classics but this book will be on my wish list in printed form as I do find following recipes in print form so much easier.

Totally recommended and gives the reader hope for humanity in the face of dire circumstances plus some awesome recipes to escape with.

Ripe Figs is a fantastic cookbook. Yasmin Khan weaves in stories of migrants who are stranded on the Greek island of Lesvos and who brought the cuisine from their home countries with them. These accounts are moving and important as they touch on the reality that both the migrants and the people of the Mediterranean are facing these days. As for the recipes, you get all the Greek classics – Spanakopita, stuffed wine leaves, courgette fritters of which I tried all three and loved them. All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book, I will certainly keep cooking my way through the rest of it.

Ripe Figs is absolutely stunning. I know very little about Middle Eastern and Greek food. Although I’ve eaten in many Greek restaurants in the UK, I’ve not visited the area and I’m not familiar with some of the ingredients or dishes. This book explains everything.

Yasmin Khan has a very engaging way of writing. There’s so much information about the food and the places and she really brings both to life. The book is packed with colour photos which, particularly on a cold winter’s day’ made me feel warm and away in another country. The book is a genuine delight to browse and my mouth was literally watering just reading and looking at some of the pictures. The recipes are clearly set out and I haven’t come across any ingredients which could be difficult to source. There are starters, soups, meat and veggie mains and a wonderful selection of desserts.

There’s an easy to use and comprehensive index and a bibliography. I think this is a book I shall invest in as a paper copy as it’s inspirational.

My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.

In a time when travel is impossible, Kahn’s glorious epicurean tours of Greece, Turkey and Cyprus are the next best thing. She explores the history, geography and people of each region, accompanying them with recipes of local delicacies readers can recreate in their own kitchens. Even if you’re not a cook, the gorgeous photographs and descriptions of these Mediterranean havens will have you dreaming of the day we can all travel to see them in person

I love this book - the recipes look amazing and the photos really capture the atmosphere of everyday life. I would be happy to eat every single dish mentioned! In particular, I can’t wait to try out the Tahini swirls, the aubergine recipes and the salads.

Even more than the recipes and the photos though, I love the book for the stories, experiences of the people who live in Turkey, Greece and Cyprus, as well as the potted history. These ultimately show we have a lot in common, regardless of background, and food is the unifying force.

I'm already a fan of Yasmin Khan so I was excited to see this new book. It's so beautiful. As always, the recipes are mouthwatering but the photography is so stunning too, that I shall read it as a travel guide as well as a cookery book. I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy.

This is more than just a cookbook, but it's one I would be proud to have on my kitchen shelf. It's filled with a whole bunch of recipes, some of which were familiar to me, others that were completely new, and amalgamates three rich cuisines into one beautiful book.

I really enjoyed the journey with Yasmin as she travelled to the various locations and countries. Particularly whilst stuck at home, I felt like I was right there alongside here. My plan for this weekend is to try a few of the recipes and read some of the passages again, just to really feel like I'm right there! I could really appreciate some of the raw honesty that Yasmin injected into some of those passages, her travels aren't just filled with positives and joy, which creates a much more realistic picture than most travel journals will leave you with.

There are some great dish ideas here, with simple and easy to follow instructions for all the ones I've paid close attention to. Of course, any great cookbook needs great images, and theres no shortage of those here either. I've managed to plan an entire weekends worth of meals really easily, and can't wait to try a few of the different bits and bobs listed. I'm sure that won't be the end of me trying these out either.

I really liked that there's a handy guide just before the index, listing out the vegan and gluten free recipes without needing to trawl through every page to find them. Little touches like that really make the difference. For me it's clearly 5 stars, and I can't wait to see if these dishes taste as good as I'm imagining!
