Suspenseful, captivating.... there is so much to love about this thrilling read. Once you open the first page it is almost impossible to put it down, i found myself frantically reading late into the evening.

With a cast of characters brought to life perfectly with the Authors writing style, this is a must read for my fellow thriller lovers!.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of the book drew me in but once I started reading it, I just couldn’t get into it at all.

A group of old college friends head off on a vacation together. They haven’t seen one another for a few years (life/kids/work etc get in the way) and see this as the perfect chance to reconnect.
Things start badly when their luxurious lakeside retreat turns out to be a rundown cabin near a deserted camp where someone was murdered. Their closest neighbour is the gun-wielding tattooed guy who owns their cabin. Determined to make the best of things, they get drunk and settle down for the night.
What follows quickly launches into crazy territory. One of their party is found murdered. Their only way out is removed as their transport gets two flat tyres. They are convinced the landlord carried out the murder, so when he pays them a visit they kill him. Unfortunately another of their party gets drowned…and they start to realise that perhaps one of them could be responsible.
The reasoning (such as it is) behind the crimes is faulty. Clearly these women don’t like each other very much and it’s hard to believe they’d have a phone call, never mind choose to spend four days together! The closing stages of the book felt rushed, and the ‘big reveal’ of Megan’s secret was rather deflated in impact as too many clues were dropped earlier for this not to have been guessed at.
Escapist fun, and thanks to NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this.

Wow, what a read! Great characters and a plot that keeps you guessing. right until the end. I kept changing my mind about the culprit and I was surprised at the reveal. There was a huge amount of tension as the plot unfolds and you wonder what will happen next.

If you like thrillers with lots of twists, this book would be a good read! A group of five college friends meet for a reunion the year they turn 40. They decide on a remote cabin in the Wisconsin woods. Upon arrival, the cabin is a bit worn down compared to the pictures online, and they find that there is no cell reception there. Then, strange things begin to happen. Each of the five women has a unique character, and the book is peppered with flashbacks to their college days. Will they all survive? Read it and find out!

I enjoyed this book by Laura Wolfe, it had plenty of twists and turns and was well written, however i did find the whole story dragged on a bit too much.

A twisty psychological thriller that was fast paced, full of secrets, lies, twists and turns. This was an addictive read that hooked me in and kept me quickly turning the pages!

Five college friends have just turned 40 so they plan a weekend away together. A catch up in a remote cabin by a lake, completely "off the grid"! Perfect setting for proper catch-up time.... until it becomes their worst nightmare!

What started out as a lovely girl’s trip ends up being a few days of terror! Who will make it home alive?!

A heart-racing and creepy read. The atmospheric feeling of isolation just adds to this one emphasising the fear and terror! Ending with a great satisfying twist that I did not see coming, this was a captivating and engrossing read!

This is a new author for me and Laura Wolfe did not disappoint with her novel! How well do we really know old friends? The ones that were there for you during the most exciting and challenging times in your young life at university is the time where our friends are our everything. But as the years go on and the visits become fewer and farther between do we still know our friends the way we think we did? When 5 university friends have a girls trip in a isolated cabin fit a long over due girls weekend we see the women as they were then and now. Everyone seems to be picking up right where they left off as we travel down memory lane. But did we tell our friends everything back in those halcyon days? Or are there old grudges some people are still holding on to twenty years later? When first one friend is found dead and then another, what was supposed to be a girls getaway soon turns into your worst nightmare. Filled with heart pounding suspense and great atmosphere you will race to the end to see that perhaps not is all that it seems and someone may be biding their time to settle the score. Do you really know anyone? Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoutre for this great ARC.

I just love this book so much!

It had so much to offer being a twisty psychological thriller that was fast paced, full of secrets, lies, twists and turns. It hooked me within the first few pages!

5 old college friends all turn 40, they plan a weekend away.and catch up in a remote cabin by a lake. All packed and raring to go they soon realize they are completely "off the grid" with no cell service etc. The property is beautiful and in the middle of a nature reserve, with the closest person to them is the owner of the cabin, who quickly gives them all the creeps.

Such a creepy and fantastic read!

Big thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bookouture for the arc for an honest review.

This was a very intriguing story. I honestly thought that I had everything figured out, but there was a huge twist that I did not see coming. I greatly enjoyed this author's work.

How well do you really know someone? Even if you have been friends for 20 odd years do you ever really truly know that person or are you just assuming that is the case?

Megan has been having a rough time since the birth of her second child. The relationship with her husband has changed and she's feeling a failure/fraud given her profession.

The girls trip couldn't have been more welcome, but for some reason Megan is having second thoughts on this. Something is nagging at her not to go. Something she brushes off at the chance to spend three days with the four people who know her best and vice versa...or so she thinks.

A twisting and turning story about friendship, lies and revenge

The Lake House is a twisty psychological thriller.
Although the synopsis really doesn't really give you a good idea of the story, it becomes obvious right away what this one is all about.. very well written and develop.
Absolutely recommend to everyone who love a good twisty book 🤗

Big thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Lake House is a gripping, tense and twisty thriller. The synopsis drew me to the story but it was more than I expected: sometimes drama, sometimes mystery, sometimes verging on horror. I don’t want to write too many details for fear of giving spoilers: it really is better to just dive in.

The house itself and surroundings are vividly described, as are the relationships between the five leads. Each is a unique character – with their own successes and insecurities – and their recognisable personalities and familiar college reminiscences set the scene for the events to come. In that sense, the book did take a little while to completely grab me. However, after the first quarter or so, the pace and tension ratcheted up and I really could barely put it down. When I had to, I was still thinking about it, which is the sign of a good book!

The Lake House is very cleverly plotted by Laura Wolfe and I thoroughly recommend it for thriller fans or crime lovers who want something a little different to police procedurals, organised crime or amateur sleuths.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of the book and my spot on the tour.

The Lake House by Laura Wolfe is thriller that surrounds five college friends who have grown apart over the past twenty years. Over the years, they have attempted to get together every few years to catch up. Their next trip is a special one since they are all newly into their 40s and are celebrating by going off the grid. The secluded cabin they rented is not what they imagined but there decide to make the best of it anyhow. It isn’t long before their lives are in danger and this tight-knit group has nobody to turn to for help.

What could possibly go wrong?

Friends since freshman year at university, Megan, Kaitlyn, Charlotte, Sam and Jenna, plan a weekend away to celebrate their 40th birthdays. It has been five years since they have all seen each other and nothing sounds better than a weekend away from their husband and kids where they can let their hair down, drink and reminisce about the good ol’ days. But, nothing goes according to plan when their cabin in the woods looks nothing like the beautiful pictures from the ad, the creepy owner who makes an appearance and an unexpected killer on the loose. Will any of the friends make it out alive?

This story is definitely atmospheric and definitely ramps up the creepy factor by 100. It definitely touched on a lot of my fears in regards to a cabin in the woods in the middle of nowhere. Let’s just say if my friends ever decided to take a trip like this I am not going down like they all did in Friday the 13th! Let me tell you, I got lost in the middle of some lake area in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of cabins with a modified black pickup truck tailing me like a lunatic. I thought my friends and I were all gonna die! Yes, I am dramatic and a big ol scaredy cat! So shush!

The story is told through the POV of Megan mostly told in the present with glimpses of the past days while in university. Megan is hiding secrets, but it doesn’t seem like she is the only one either. I really enjoyed learning about all of the women and their lives while we get to the nitty gritty of the plot.

I have read stories like this in the past where a lot of them didn’t work for me and I found myself bored to tears, Laura Wolfe on the other hand, had me jumping at every noise in my house cause my cats like to jump on things and knock stuff over. Damn them, don’t they know I am reading a scary thriller! No more wet food for a week!

All I know is Wolfe scared me to pieces in the middle of the night (when I started reading this book like a dummy) and has reminded me on why my friends better not even suggest a cabin in the woods or I will have to find new friends!

Although the synopsis really doesn't really give you a good idea of the story, it becomes obvious right away what this one is all about. Five college friends decide to take a girls' trip to reconnect since they haven't seen each other for some time due to their busy lives. They end up at a ramshackle cabin close to a lake -- there's no mobile or internet service and only one very creepy dude close by. Things don't look good for the ladies. Instead of backing out and heading to a different resort for their reunion, they decide to stay. That's when things start going wrong.

I struggled to finish this one. For one thing, I totally disliked all the women. The second issue was that it was totally predictable and I never found that "gripping psychological thriller" that the blurb promised. Their interaction was banal and lame and, once things started going from bad to worse, their actions bordered on simply ridiculous. I always hate it when I have to write a review of a book that didn't work for me, so I'm just leaving this here. My advice: skip it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-book ARC to read and review.
