“He doesn’t love you,” were the words Lauren read that sent her life into turmoil. With all the preparations made for her perfect wedding, what could go wrong? Who was responsible for the cryptic message? Was her fiancé, Adam the man of her dreams or a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Buried secrets, deadly revenge, betrayal and paranoia come together in this suspenseful thriller proving once again that things are not always as they seem. Who can you trust when everyone looks guilty?

This book had me hooked from page one! My favorite part of reading this genre is when there are unexpected twists and turns, and the author of this novel delivered. Would definitely recommend!

Lauren is finally marrying her childhood sweetheart, Adam but instead of it being one of the happiest times of her life it starts turning out to be a nightmare. A few weeks before the wedding she starts getting threatening messages and it's pretty obvious that someone is trying to sabotage her happiness but who and why ?

The Wedding by Ruth Heald is a fast paced psychological thriller . Overall a well written, tightly plotted, intense thriller with lots of suspects that kept me hooked to the end.

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

I do really like this author but this was not my favorite. It took a while to take off with some parts predictable, others unrealistic. It is unimaginable to me, the loss of both your parents, especially if you think you are responsible. Lauren lost them at 17 and is now 35 but the pain is still too raw. She seems very young and naive constantly doting on it (certainly not the successful ER doc that she is).

There are numerous reviews so no need to elaborate. This was decent, and once it started moving, I enjoyed it. There were some fun twists that I didn’t see coming. The author has a nice easy writing style that I enjoy and her characters are solid. I would recommend this but urge you to check out some of the prior stuff too.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and, Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.

Got to say, author Ruth Heald writes fun stories filled with lies, deceptions, and threats.

This was a twisted tale of someone threatening Lauren a month before her wedding and things reaching a climax when the wedding was almost called off.

The writing threw a lot of clues along red herrings. It was up to me to chose wisely. I liked how the author kept me guessing while being certain of certain facts.

Unfortunately, having read thrillers most of my life, story could be easily guessed. It was actually obvious who the perp was and some of the reasons for all the threats.

But fear not, the prose still drew me in with its delicious charm. Short chapters, fast pace, entertaining plotline kept me hooked during my breakfast.

Fun… fun… fun…

I hate to say it but this one just didn't live up to expectation. I'm a huge Ruth Heald fan and I can usually give an easy 5* but this one just didnt suck me in at all!

Personally I found the 'twists' overly predictable (if not a bit crazy ) and the whole thing just felt rather flat and undeveloped.

It definitely won't put me off future reads but sadly I won't be recommending this one.

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

The Wedding
I’ve been on a good run with psych thrillers lately. This latest from Ruth Heald has all of the hallmarks of a perfect one.
Ambiguous Prologue: check. The reader immediately knows that there is a bride whose wedding day was disrupted. But how, and by whom?
Differing Perspectives: check. We largely get Lauren’s point of view on the events of the story. But we periodically get Adam’s, and those are primarily flashbacks. (More on that in a minute).
Multiple Suspects: check. There are enough characters whose actions are questionable to make the real culprit hard to detect. Is it one person? Two? Is everything connected, or are there separate things going on?
Thriller Ending: check and check. This book had one of the best endings I’ve read in a while. A real page-turner with more than a couple “What the heck/oh no way!” moments. Including one I did not see coming at all (but should have).
The author did a great job of laying out the plot so that I was right along side of Lauren, never knowing exactly who to trust. I didn’t have a lot in common with her character-wise, but her attitude and demeanor were perfect for feeling sympathy towards her and the situation.
This also added to the sense of dread as events start occurring that make her question everyone around her.
I also thought the flashbacks were well-done. Ostensibly, they relate a pivotal trip in Adam and Lauren’s past. But is there more than meets the eye? Yes and no. I had to check the date on an event because I was sure that the trip was during it, but once again, the author outwitted me.
I also thought that the chapters with Adam’s point of view in the present added to the suspense. Is he a heel? Does he love Lauren? When is he telling the truth, if ever? I liked being off-balance when it came to him.
How’s that for a few non-spoilers?
And those aforementioned multiple suspects? Once again, the author did such a good job with plotting that at one point I suspected a character who had given me absolutely no reason to suspect them – only that I was trying to outguess the author.
There were a couple of loose ends, especially with Adam’s relationships, where people kind of just disappeared. To be honest, the ending was so good that I didn’t even realize that there was no ending for those characters. And it didn’t bother me at all.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this is about a perfect of a psych thriller that you can find. I read it in one sitting because it drew me in and kept my attention the entire way through.
You definitely do NOT want to miss out on this one.

This one did not live up to my expectations. I am a huge fan of domestic thrillers, and I can even enjoy a good slow-burn, but this was a little too slow-paced for me. The characters felt flat and underdeveloped, and on top of this, the twists were both predictable and absolutely insane. The story just did not grab me; I couldn't connect to the characters and I wasn't interested in the storyline. The implausible scenarios that continued to unfold became so unbelievable that I struggled to finish this one.

The Wedding isntthe best book I’ve ever read but it’s a fun read and quickly got me through yet another lockdown afternoon. It’s the book equivalent of a cheesy teen horror, easy to watch but doesn’t make it any less enjoyable! Lauren was a really annoying character and I just couldn’t gel with her.
3.5/5

I started this book months ago, didn't like it then or now. The book was not interesting although the plot started out nicely but somewhere a long the way I just lost interest. Picked it up again to finish reading it and hoping for a better finish. Sorely disappointed.

Definitely a twisty tale!! There were so many different ways it could go and I was continually switching who was sending the threats. It was a TAD annoying that almost every character had SOME sort of reason for possibly being the threat but I get that it was done to keep readers guessing. Lauren was a likable character for the most part. She was naïve at times in regards to her fiancée but it wasn't enough to be off putting. Adam definitely has made some bad choices in the past which contribute to some of the problems they currently have but in the end it is very obvious that he truly loves Lauren. Overall very fun thrilling read.

This was a very slow-paced mystery thriller. I usually don't mind that, but unfortunately the mystery part wasn't hard to figure out. After about a third of the book, I started skim-reading to see if my suspicions were correct (they were), because I wasn't really enjoying the experience. The characters had no depth, the twists were predictable, and certain parts of the story were so unbelievable that it ended up being a real battle to reach the end of the book.

This was probably my favorite of Ruth Heald’s book! It’s one of those that has you trusting absolutely no one; which I love! Characters were amazingly written, which I need for me to really get hooked in a book! It’s fast paced and suspenseful; also full of twist and turns, chills, thrills, and shocks! Hugely highly recommend!

I liked the idea of this plot but it just didn’t grab me. I kinda guess who Lauren’s tormentor was. I personally didn’t find it on your seat or got to know what’s going to happen next.
