I'm just honestly confused... it wasn't at all what it seemed it would be from the description of the book. It often felt whiny, like a slow-moving woe-is-me message for 150+ pages, and waits until the very last pages to actually begin to unpack the 'baggage of western culture' (from the subtitle). I do not agree that "Unfettered helps us reimagine how to follow God with our whole selves again and join with God's mission in the world." Not at all what it says it will be.

Mandy Smith’s “Unfettered” is a beautiful, wise, and deeply pastoral literary wonder that will help you get rid of the baggage of your cultural past and help you reimagine your faith toward childlike wonder with passion and depth. I highly recommend it!

Mandy Smith's narrative theology of becoming unfettered is a worthy read for those looking at Christianity and wondering why its followers can be so uptight. She explores what is means to have a childlike faith, willing to rest, receive, and respond to God's spirit in us and the world. In it, she details here journey of learning how to accept that she is not in control of the world, but has control, and is sustained by a God that truly loves our questions/when we relax into him.
