We start off by meeting a unicorn who then goes on to tell the story of the seven tapestries, called "The Hunt of the Unicorn" from the 1500s on display in "the unicorn room" in The Cloister in Manhattan.

The scenes are pretty graphic and disturbing in my opinion.

I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this.

This goes against pretty much all truth and morality there is.

It's a hard NO for me!

The title sounded intriguing, but unfortunately, I could not get a downloadable copy of the title. Because I could not download a readable copy, I feel that any star rating would be unfair. However, I will apply one so that the publisher will see my comments and understand why I am not reviewing the book.

This was not at all what I thought this book would be from the description and the title. I didn't like it and I didn't actually even finish it.

This book just wasn't for me. I liked that the book was based on the Unicorn Tapestry at Cloisters which I thought was an incredible idea. I think that Mason did an excellent job with the narrative and inner thoughts that the characters had but especially on morality, sexuality, and what it means to have Christian love.

While the premise sounded interesting unfortunately I think it just fell flat to me and I struggled to immerse myself in the story. I slogged through when Iw anted to dnf it because I wanted to give a full review.

I would recommend if you enjoy philosophy or like philosophical questions.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me an ARC in return for an honest review.

This book just wasn't my cup of tea. I went by the cover and the title, neglecting to read the description, so I didn't realize the book was as philosophical as it was. I thought Mason did a good job with the inner narratives the characters had about morality, sexuality, and what it means to have Christian love. Readers are left to ponder the rhetorical questions posited by the characters, coming to their own conclusions. However, I found the book dull and repetitive. The chapters alternate points of view - the unicorn's and the monk's, and the beginning of many of the chapters did a short recap from that character's last chapter. The dialog and narration swung between medieval to match the setting (which ended up sounding stiff and pretentious) and modern. I think it would have worked just as well consistently using modern language and it might have been less clunky for me.
I'd say that if you enjoy philosophy, you should give this book a try.

The Unicorn, The Mystery is quite unlike any book I've ever read. The storytelling is unique and fascinating, and it's very immersive and pulls you into the world. I do wish the formatting was a bit clearer with the switching POV's. I think writing a book based on the Unicorn Tapestry at Cloisters was an incredible idea, and it did not disappoint. It's short, quick, and unique, so if you're looking for something new, I highly recommend it.

A well written fantasy based on the unicorn and characters in the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries in the Cloisters in New York City. The story moves quickly and is told in the voices of both the unicorn and a young monk. Original and appealing to those who enjoy medieval settings and unicorns.

I did not enjoy this book. It felt like unfiltered philosophical ramblings. It just fell flat for me. I couldn't take many of the characters seriously, despite their serious plotlines and serious dialogue. I liked the plotline of the two nuns but that was pretty much the only thing I liked about the book. Also, while I know that classic unicorn lore involves them liking virgins, I felt like the way that was handled was rather gross. I didn't need to hear about how women who aren't virgins smell disgusting to a Unicorn. Also, I really didn't like that the nuns who did sleep together were still considered virgins. I've had way too many people invalidate my relationships because a dick wasn't involved. I was very interested in this book when I heard the premise, but I was VERY disappointed.

The story The unicorn the Mystery reminds me of the tales of the old. The tapestry of the maiden and the In a Unicorn. In a way it is. You get the unicorns point of view which is really amazing, a novice monk, and some novice nuns.

It goes over how only the pure of heart can see a unicorn. Religious metaphors for what they stand for. What they do. The trials that it goes through, is it real or just a myth. Is it looking for a maiden pure?

This Arc was given to me by netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
