I adored Butterfly Cove & Lavender Bay series, so was thrilled to find the first book in a whole new series by Sarah Bennett.
As always, a wonderful setting has been created as the backdrop of the story and is populated by interesting and fully-formed characters, some of whom you can tell have wonderful back-stories that will hopefully be explored in future books.
This book, although enjoyable and full of interest, just didn’t grab me quite in the same way that the books in the other series have, but if read without measuring against Butterfly Cove / Lavender Bay, it is a lovely book. Perhaps a little unbelievable at times, and some aspects not explored or explained as much as I would have liked, it is very much an enjoyable book focussing on the experience of family (and what a wonderful, warm family it is), friendship and budding romance between the two main characters.
The story kept my attention throughout, it was easy to read and the story unfolded at a good rate. I was so pleased to find an epilogue that allowed a further insight into the relationship further, and can’t wait to read the other books in the series!

I always enjoy a book from Sarah Bennett and was pleased to find that a new one was in the offing. This is the first book in her latest series, set in the seaside village of Mermaids Point, a warm and welcoming community where I would love to spend some time. I was instantly drawn into this book and found it a quick read.

Central to the story is the Morgan family, all of whom live in the village. Laurie runs a cafe serving the most delicious-sounding cakes, while her mum and dad run the gift shop next door. Brother Nick takes tourists out on his boat to view the coast and islands off the point. Unfortunately, a couple of wet summers have left businesses that are dependent on the tourist trade worried about the future. Reporter Jake Smith arrives in Mermaids Point to recharge his batteries and at the same time follow up on a strange report. Somebody has posted on social media a series of pictures apparently showing a mermaid slipping off the rocks at the end of the bay into the sea. He is interested to establish if this is a stunt perhaps intended to attract visitors to the struggling seaside village. When he arrives in the village, Jake is instantly attracted to Laurie and soon becomes friendly with the whole family. However, when it seems that Nick may be at the centre of strange goings on, Jake is conflicted between his job as a reporter and his connection to the family, Laurie in particular.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and can highly recommend it to other readers, whether fans of Sarah Bennett or new to her work. There are many interesting and eminently likeable characters in the story, Laurie and Jack taking centre stage. They are a lovely couple, but there is always the worry that Jack’s job may come between them. I enjoyed the mystery associated with the mermaid sightings and was surprised when the answer was revealed. The Morgans are a delightful family unit, always looking out for each other and considerate of the community where they live. I was very moved by the way in which they supported Jack when he needed help. I’m now looking forward to the next story in the series; the prologue, which appears at the end of this book, suggests that we are going to learn more about the characters we have met in this story.

What a blissful read! Really enjoyed this one, and can't wait for the rest of the series and more stories from this seaside idyll!!
Laurie has a coffee shop next door to her parents gift shop in the seaside village of Mermaids Point. When a blurry video goes viral online of a mermaid in the area they get swamped by tourists and media. No spoilers here, but I do love a cherry brownie!!
An absolutely delightful read, and a great escape from lockdown life.
Highly recommended, reading this book is like a huge warm hug.
Thank you NetGalley for the early read! Loved it!

With romance, a sprinkling of mystery and a wonderful cast of characters, Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point is the perfect feel-good summer read.

“ ...the legend is that the mermaids will always come when the village needs them the most.”

There’s something about two people meeting and falling in love in a coastal setting that just soothes my little romantic soul and that’s exactly what happens when journalist, Jake arrives in Mermaids Point looking for the scoop on the village’s magical namesake where he soon meets cafe owner and local sweetheart, Laurie. And like Laurie, I was quickly a goner because Jake charmed the pants off me with his flirty nature and huge heart.

“He didn’t have to be her happy ever after Prince Charming, but a little bit of happy for now sounded damn good.”

I wanted a great couple and a story to make my heart happy and that’s exactly what I got with family, friendship, love and new beginnings at the very centre. And having had my heartstrings tugged oh-so slightly with the snippet we’re given of the next book, I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Mermaids Point.

This was such a cosy, heartwarming, beautiful story!
I loved the setting, description of village life and close knit community. The characters are so well depicted and real life ones.
It's one of those books that makes you feel like you want to go and live inside it.
Very happy to know this is the first one of a series, I can't wait to go back to Mermaids point.
Highly recommended!!

A wonderful story of how the people of Mermaids point go about there normal daily routine, worrying about work and money. Until one day an article appears in a newspaper stating that a Mermaid has been seen off the coast around Mermaids point. This brings in crowds of people, wanting to see her. This brings in lots of new custom for the local shops. However there is always a downside. News journalist Jake moves toMermaids point for a month, he tells everyone in the area he is there for peace and quiet to write a book. However really he is there to spy on the residents and get an inside story into are Mermaids real or not? But all is not how it seems, secrets come out, but are these for the better or worse.

This book is a lovely, enjoyable summer read. If you like romance, family, mermaids and pretty coastal communities this is the book for you.
I enjoyed reading about Laurie, the owner of a coastal cafe, and Jake, the visiting journalist masquerading as an author. Fairly predictable but not in a negative way, this is a satisfying read which takes you away from the stresses of everyday life.
Thanks author Sarah Bennett, NetGalley, and Boldwood Books for giving me a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Great summery read that contains many of the elements I love: a beautiful seaside location, a tight knit community, a cafe and a glorious romance. I loved the characters and devoured this on a sunny afternoon in lockdown.

4 stars
Jake, a burned out journalist, who was sent on assignment to Mermaid Point in order to write a newspaper article about the sightings of mermaids.
Lauren is a woman, who has had her heart broken, that decided to run the local cafe and spend time with her family. As Jake begins to investigate the mermaid sightings, he meets Lauren and is immediately interested to getting to know her. As their time together results in romantic feelings to develop, will Jake's secret newspaper investigations ruin them?
This book had a beautiful setting and premise. I feel in love with the scenery and village life. Their relationship was so sweet and well paced! The author did a great job capturing the characters as people the reader could possibly meet in the real world. This was easily a book I could have finished in one sitting on a lazy cold weekend. Overall, this is the perfect read for those longing for those summer days! I would like to read more books by this author!

Mermaids Point is a pretty Cornish seaside town created by the author. There is a rumour that a mermaid has been seen that sparks all kinds of interest. The locals are sceptical but happy with the increased business. Within this framework is a warm developing romance between cafe owner Laurie and journalist Jake. A feelgood light read that promises to be the beginning of a new series. I look forward to the next instalment!

Summer Kisses at Mermaid's Point - Sarah Bennett

If you like a good romance with picturesque settings then this is one for you. Great likeable characters which we will hopefully meet again briefly as I believe that this is the first book in a new series. The perfect weekend easy read - curl up with a cup of tea, a piece of cake and indulge in some small town romantic escapism!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for allowing me the chance to read and review this book

In a fabulous afternoon escape, I could not stop reading this book. A light-hearted, beautifully written story, I fell in love with the characters and the village. We are in a seaside town with Mermaid folklore. Jake is sent there to cover this story but finds much more instead. Laurie runs the local coffee shop and circulates the tale for the tourists. Will secrets be the downfall of this love story?

Summer Kisses at Mermaid Point is such a fun and entertaining contemporary novel, and I loved the characters, the romance, and the lovely small-town charm.

Laurie is a great protagonist, and I appreciate her lively and fun spirit. She’s smart, humorous, and hard-working, determined to thrive in her job where she runs the local café. Laurie has a strong relationship with her community, and her life is intricately woven into Mermaids Point. Though she is in her early twenties, she is wise beyond her years and shows maturity and depth of character. She is someone I rooted for from the start of the story, and I so hoped for her to find happiness and love.

When Jake, a slightly hardened reporter, comes to town to investigate mermaid sightings, the sparks fly. Laurie and Jake have fabulous chemistry, and I loved how their romance progressed. Jake feels burned-out from his career, and Laurie is reluctant to love again. These and other obstacles stand in their way, including several secrets and lies, and both Laurie and Jake must decide if their ever-growing feelings are worth fighting for.

The small-town feel where everyone knows everyone else adds so much charm to the story. I fell in love with Mermaids Point and the wonderful cast of characters who inhabit it. Even Jake can’t help but succumb to the charm of this small town, and he quickly becomes enthralled by all that life has to offer in Mermaids Point. The author beautifully and vividly describes a wonderful seaside community filled with charm, and it is the perfect setting to escape to during these cold, wintry months.

A fun, feel-good story with tons of charm and a wonderful romance, Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point is a great book to escape into for an afternoon. Lovers of romance, rom-coms, and stories with wonderful characters and a picturesque setting will love this read! Thanks so much to Rachel’s Random Resources and Sarah Bennett for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I adored this book - it was a gorgeous, warm, light-hearted story set in a charming seaside village with likeable characters. The mystery of the mermaid sightings was the perfect accompaniment to Laurie and Jake's love story and I particularly enjoyed Laurie's folklore telling of a sailor who fell in love with a mermaid. It was pure feel-good escapism and the perfect read for these current times. My only criticism was Laurie's age as I did find it hard to believe she was 23 – perhaps that simple village living for you but definitely the most mature, grounded 23 year old I’ve ever come across. Apparently this is the start of a brand new series one and I for one can't wait to revisit Mermaids Point.

This was my first time reading a Sarah Bennett book and I really enjoyed it. It takes place in a small town along the Atlantic coast of England. Laurie is the owner of a cafe in the same building as her parent’s store. Jake is an investigative reporter needing a break after a heart breaking story. After a recent mermaid sighting video went viral, Jake is sent to look into it under the guise of writing a book and to also take a break.

This story is well written and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this book to review from Boldwood Books through NetGalley.

Jake is an investigative journalist who has been given leave after his last harrowing story. He goes to Mermaids Point after a sighting of a mermaid. Laurie owns a cafe and bakery there and they meet up. Wonderful book. Haven't read any of Sarah's other books but will definitely look out for them

I absolutely adore Sarah's books so instantly jumped at the chance of this blog tour and I have no regrets. This could be my new favourite book yet.
This has been the perfect escape and has an extremely attractive and inviting cover. I actually want to visit mermaid's point just from the gorgeous cover.
I absolutely need more from Mermaids Point and magnificent characters we meet in this book. I have adored it. Bennett tells this from a double point of view. I love this because it really allows us to know the characters. This is absolutely a five star read which I highly recommend.

A quick easy read. The secrecy aspect was a bit lacking in substance but a good book for the beach or a bit of escapism
