This book was HILARIOUS! From start to finish I loved the chaos and family drama that only aunties can bring.

I will definitely be looking up future books by Jesse Sutanto.

This book was real fun and has a dark humour that really appeals to me! I don’t read a lot of romantic fiction, and this book had been left on the back burner, but having just done a February promoting them I was looking for books to read that could fit this criteria but with a different twist to them. This certainly had both aspects and in parts really did make me giggle, I thoroughly enjoyed the Chinese - Indonesian culture of our main character Meddy, who is set up then accidentally kills her blind date. Who do you call when you have such a unique and life- changing problem? You call the very aunties who brought this problem to your door in the first place!

I’ve loved reading books set within different communities, such as Yinka! Where Is Your Huzband? Which focuses on the dating problems of Yinka and the ‘encouragement’ she receives from her Nigerian aunties, including loud and humiliatingly public prayers. Here the south Asian parents are equally funny, competitive and driven in wanted the best for their daughter. The best is obviously for her to marry an eligible young man from their own community and Meddy thinks family is important, she holds her family and her aunties in high regard. So, who else should she call when her blind date goes drastically wrong? I had such fun reading this, because it was my perfect combination of slapstick and gallows humour. It was brilliant to add in that element of an actual meet-cute, just as Meddy is trying to get rid of her last suitor’s body. To add to the humour there’s a huge Chinese and Indonesian wedding as well as a plot to steal the wedding valuables. The main characters aren’t just funny, they’re warm and loving and full of life. They feel real. So even though the plot isn’t as full as I’d have liked, I still really enjoyed being in their company.

🌟Oh this novel is SO funny, refreshing & fabulous! ⠀
🌟It's a completely wild ride but in the very best possible way.⠀
🌟Fast-paced with jaw dropping twists it's so more-ish.⠀
🌟A loveable cast, the bickering, the sibling rivalry, the burden of living up to family expectations is captured perfectly.⠀
🌟I cannot wait to get lost in Four Aunties and a Wedding & I'm beyond excited to see it come to life on Netflix.⠀

Loved everything about this! Raced through the book as I couldn’t wait to discover what would happen on the next page. The aunties were amazing, and all the the laugh out loud moments that came with them.

PSA - do not even think about trying to read this novel in bed. Side effects will be (not limited to):

- Insomnia, caused by a desperation to know how on earth Meddy and her aunties are going to sort out the situation they find them in. Not something you can put aside to a more convenient time. You have to keep on reading to the end (which is a positive in any situation which is not 3am on a Monday morning when you know you have work the next day but you just need to find out what happens next)

- Divorce - snorting at hilarity is, again, generally a very good thing but not when your beloved is (was) sleeping soundly beside you

Absolutely loved it but will definitely keep Sutanto's next novel for the sofa

This was a pleasant surprise! I’m not sure on what I thought this was going to be, but it did really deliver as an enjoyable read. I wouldn’t really put this in a solid genre as it seems to genre bend and blend, which I actually enjoyed.
It was easy to read, and a book that I would like to reread in the future.

The story was a real page-turner, although a murder-mystery-romance theme it’s also a comedy which means it’s a lot lighter than most the usual books involving murder. The characters are simply fabulous , so many laugh out loud moments and such brilliant one liners, my sides ached at times. This is definitely one of my favourite reads of the year, I can’t wait to read more by Jesse.

This was such a fun read. It felt a bit slapstick at times and i was thinking what else can go wrong? But I really enjoyed it and chuckled all the way though.
Can't wait for the next installment.

I liked the premise and enjoyed the family humour at the beginning but the novel could have done with less of it and more pace. DNF

So funny! I loved this murder mystery. The writing left a little bit to be desired but overall so much fun to read.

This book wasn't quite wasn't what I expected. I thought I was in for a fun murder mystery, and it was that, but due to the writing, it fell a bit flat. I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy.

This was so much fun! It had so many laugh out loud moments and I really REALLY loved all of the family dynamics especially between the Aunties and ofc Meddys mum.

Honestly the aunties were just so so funny and them all being at war with each other. This book was full of all of the dramas, and anything that could go wrong went wrong, I think just an IMO here the only reason this isn't a 5 stars is because maybe it was just a bit *too* much for me.

Such a fun read overall!

Meddy Chan works for her family business as a wedding photographer, taking pictures of happy couples while she’s still pining for her ex-boyfriend. The night before the wedding of the century for which they have been hired, Meddy goes on a blind date with a man her mum and aunties set her up with. It does not go well, so Meddy is left with a burning question – where can you hide the dead body of a man you accidently killed…? Thankfully she has her aunties to help, and they have a big cooler…
I stayed up very late to finish “Dial A for Aunties”! Meddy Chan and her family are amazing funny characters and Jesse Sutanto writes great dialogue. This book is a funny romcom with a murder and it reminded me of “My sister, the serial killer” by Oyinkan Braithwaite and "Crazy Rich Asians" by Kevin Kwan – but with more romance. This novel has so much there – it is not only about finding your love and getting away with murder, but also about filial expectations, family dynamics, Chinese and Indonesian culture as well as racism that people from these communities face. But this is also a story about the strength of family ties and being ready to try things on your own. There is so much black humour here you sometimes forget that murder is not a fun thing and consequences are inevitable. I admit, there are some parts of the book that I was not convinced about (do not want to spoil it, but I am thinking about what happens after the tea ceremony), but I chose to ignore them. All together, “Dial A for Aunties” was a supper funny and enjoyable book to read and I am waiting for the next books from Jesse Sutanto with high expectations!

THIS WAS SUCH A GREAT BOOK! It was laugh-out-loud funny, witty beyond measure and all-in-all the greatest mystery/comedy read!!

Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Sutanto is about Meddy Chan, her mother and her aunties.  They work together in a wedding planner business, with one aunt making the cake, Meddy's mother does the flowers, another aunt does the hair and make up, another is the entertainment, and Meddy is the photographer.  They have a big wedding coming up, and Meddy's mother is delighted to have gotten her daughter a date with the hotel owner, where the wedding is going to happen, by posing as her online.

Meddy is obviously not that happy, especially when she sees some of the messages.  And then things go wrong on the date and he ends up dead.

This is an entertaining book, with lots of family drama, but also love.  I really enjoyed this book; it's funny, smart, and lots of twists!

Dial A For Aunties  was published on 27th April 2021 and is available from  Amazon ,  Waterstones  and  Bookshop.org .

Meddy Chan works as a photographer for her family wedding business but, when she accidentally kills her blind date the day before their biggest wedding yet, chaos ensues!

Between managing the elaborate wedding day, trying to dispose of a dead body and reuniting with her college sweetheart after years apart, as well as dealing with her constantly bickering mother and three aunts, Meddy certainly has her hands full!

Dial A For Aunties is one of the most unusual books I’ve read in a long time. Part romance, part thriller and part-comedy, the book is such a quirky mix of genres and I absolutely loved it.

The ‘Aunties’ are hilariously chaotic and (despite the accidental murder) poor Meddy is so relatable. I also found the details of Indo-Chinese culture and the close but complex family relationships fascinating.

A highly recommended Summer read!

Murder mystery meets rom -com. Meddy Chan accidentally kills her blind date so she turns to her mum and aunties for help. The body ends up being shipped to a much more public location than planned - a billionaire's wedding, oops. Funny, smart and really quite rude, well worth a read

This was such a delight to read and when the author starts the acknowledgements saying that she loved the entire writing process for the book, it's completely unsurprising.
The story introduced me to a new cultural community and setting it around one of the most important cultural events we celebrate: a wedding was a great way to share the rich and beautiful Chinese-Indo way of life.
The story was a page-turner and the premise is so unique, you are kept guessing until the end about how the murder plot will be resolved.
This is a comedy which meant that the murder is turned into a more humorous plotline which meant that at times, it felt like the loss of a life wasn't being taken seriously. Plus the easy acceptance of so many characters that there had been an avoidable killing was a bit hard to believe.
However, this was a fun story so you can take it as it comes.
The main draw and reason to stay with this book though are of course the Aunties, their 'can't live with or without each other' dynamic is very realistic and in the end you are left with nothing but warm vibes because of all of them.
If Meddy wasn't so likeable, this definitely wouldn't have worked as well as it did!
