I totally loved this book. With very loose similarities to one of my favourite films Weekend At Bernies. A fantastic idea with what appears to be one of the most intrusive but loving families. A fabulous read.

Yes! This is the first book I've ever read that gave me an insight into the world Chinese-Indonesian culture, and I loved it! The story was well-paced (with a ridiculous premise of course) and light-hearted with elements of romance, mystery and murder. What's not to like? The aunts' characters were distinctive and I never got confused. I would highly recommend.

Jesse Sutanto writes an entertaining mystery about Meddy Chan who accidentally kills her blind date so she turns to her Mum and four aunties for help. Meddy is at university, settling for the local UCLA so that she can remain with her mum and have a role in the family wedding business as a photographer. Her mum and her aunties will do anything for Meddy, including trying to get rid of the body, however, they also have a huge wedding to organise on an island off the Californian coast.

This is a fabulously entertaining and engaging read that will really make you laugh. I loved the zany plot, the aunties, and their banter. Dial A For Aunties is well worth a look.

I absolute adored this book, I can’t tell you how many times I laughed out loud reading the book and the one liners are great. You’ve been goldfished is going to be used going forward rather than catfish. I have to admit the ending fell a little flat for me but I loved the rest of the book so much I’m not dwelling too much on it. You really get the Chinese-Indonesian family vibes throughout this book and the aunties each have there unique personality’s which really flow through the book.

SUCH a fun read - the characters were vivid from the start and I enjoyed everyone's interactions. The plot was strong. I too, have a massive crush on Nathan Chan. For me, I'll be looking to read Jesse Sutanto again.

Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto is a laugh out loud romantic comedy with a big twist featuring a murder, nosy aunties and set during the weekend of what must be the wedding of the century. I absolutely love every moment I was reading this book and I wish it could go on and on, I just love it so much. This is definitely the book you shouldn’t miss out on!

I really love everything about this book and the premise is so strong that it even manages to grip my entire attention span throughout the book. Please, I think we can all establish the fact that it was never going a good idea to get Meddy’s aunties involved with the disposal of the body but they definitely made the situation so much more chaotic, hilarious and better.

I love all the characters, every single one. Especially the Chans and that even includes Nathan. I mean, he’s so precious and so in love with Maddy which makes him the perfect main love interest. I was totally rooting for them the entire way.

I also love that the author has incorporated a lot of her own culture and customs as Chinese-Indonesian. I hope she writes even more books highlighting it proudly in the future because I am certainly picking it up.

I am so proud to say that I have found a new mystery author that I love with all my heart. Jesse writes splendidly and always manages to make me surprised by the turn of events her books would go and it is truly such a treat everytime. You could even check out her YA, Mystery book, The Obsession.

I seriously have never laughed so much while reading a book as much as I did with this one and I am so glad that this book arrived at the right time where my surrounding is the total opposite. This is the kind of read i needed at the moment and I hope everyone would pick up this book too. It will make you laugh and agitate along with the characters as they go through the wedding while hoping desperately to hide and dispose of a dead body.

This was definitely one of my favourite books of 2021 so far. It's funny, emotional and the bond between Meddy and her aunties is so beautiful and pure. It was an absolute dream to read, and I've since heard that it'll be made into a movie which I cannot wait for. So so good.

I generally like intergenerational family stories, especially those that showcase the differences between cultures, traditions, and expectations. However, something about this one fell flat for me. Meddelin Chan comes from a large Indonesian-Chinese family in which the women seem fated to lose their menfolk – both husbands and sons – whether to death or desertion and so band together to support one another. Although determined to escape her mother and aunties through university and beyond, Meddelin finds herself also subject to the family curse, first through her college boyfriend moving away and then through the man her mother sets her up with, dying on their first date. Believing the man to be pivotal to the success of a large wedding her family is catering and photographing – amongst other activities – Meddelin calls on her aunts to help her conceal the body until after the event. Things just go downhill from there, with potentially hilarious consequences.

Sadly, the humour didn’t really work for me, since a lot of it depended on the state of intoxication of the groomsmen and, to a lesser extent, the other guests. There was also a secondary plot involving the criminal plans of the deceased guy and his accomplice, which felt a little too convoluted, as do the attempts of Meddelin and her family to repeatedly hide his body. Also, maybe it’s a US vs UK issue, but I had a hard time visualising how they could hide the body in a cooler box and transport it around the place. I kept imagining the orange and white cooler box my family used for picnics in the 1970s and puzzling how a whole dead human would fit in there, no matter how carefully folded they were.

On the plus side, I liked the flashbacks to Meddelin’s relationship with Nathan and the contrast between his family and hers, and I appreciated the ultimate resolution of the fact that the bride from the central wedding story was marrying completely the wrong person. I’m sure this book would work well for a lot of other people – just not me – and I definitely feel like I learned a few new facts about other cultures and their wedding traditions by reading the story.

I received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Jesse Sutanto is witty, funny, and brilliant. I loved this book and couldn't put it down! The timeline spans just a few short days, with some flashbacks to the main character's college days (the flashbacks never feel forced), and it's amazing how jam-packed it all is. Dim sum with the aunties was also a nice touch.

I got hooked from the first page of the book. Wow what a page turner definitely keeps you engaged. I finished the book in a day as I was so curious to what would happen. I went to the book blind as I always do. I don’t know what I was imagining the story would be but definitely not this. Overall I loved the book, the story, romance and definitely the plot. I enjoyed the book for sure and would recommend to anyone who wants a fun laugh out loud read with a light romance and close family relationship.

While outside of my usual reading habits an amazing social media promotion had this book firmly on my radar. And I was completely hooked by this fast-paced tale of rekindling with the one who got away, with the slight hindrance of disposing of a body you may have accidentally murdered the night before. I loved watching the story unfurl over the 48 hours in which the book takes place and the pacing was perfect, slowing down to let us enjoy the tender moments while the drama of the day just kept coming! I also found the insights into Chinese-Indo American culture fascinating and it was this that made this read stand out to me. This is definitely a book I will be recommending to customers from fans of Crazy Rich Asians, My Sister the Serial Killer or even those looking for a more lighthearted read while still wanting a great female-led read.

A hilarious book that is easily one of the funniest I’ve read this year. When Meddy a photographer who works with her mum and aunties in the wedding business accidentally kills her blind date, she relies on her aunties to help cover up the murder, all the while working at the biggest wedding they’ve ever done. To set this during an insanely lavish wedding that all the aunties are working on was a genius idea, the only thing worse than covering up a murder is also having the success of an expensive wedding on shoulders at the same time. I enjoyed the mystery they stumble onto during the wedding which made for a gripping read.

The bond between Meddy and her maternal family is the highlight of the book and I loved the big personalities of the aunties. There’s a lot of sibling rivalry between them all and some of the funniest parts come from the aunties trying to one up each other with their plans to get rid of the body. But through all the farcical dead body mishaps is a touching story about sisters who lost the men in their lives, but all gained a daughter with Meddy and will literally hide a dead body to protect her. If you want a darkly funny quick read, pick up Dial A for Aunties.

Such fun! Farcical, slapstick comedy with a lovely second chance romance sub-plot. I could totally imagine this on screen. Really enjoyed it.

Very funny ,charming book. It has a lot of black comedy . It was freshly written book

Very lighthearted and funny book , It was published at the best time to fix my mood in these days.
The book doesn’t take it self seriously, there is outrageous things happening but it’s funny in dark way .

The right book after lockdown, bright and funny. Does not take it self seriously.
It started bit slow and I was thinking where we are going with this . But it was the most fun book I read this year, I loved every stupid decision Meddelin makes . Also there is love story going on .

Oh god , the Aunties are the best . The remarks and undertones remind me of every other culture and actually make me nostalgic to ridicules aunties that ask at wedding if you still single !

I can see this book as next movie like Crazy Rich Asians, It really good to hear new voices and cultures coming through.

I really enjoyed Dial A for Aunties. It wasn't what I expected in the slightest and it's one of the most unique books I've read in a long time.
The beginning of the book was incredibly slow and it took me quite a while to get through the first two thirds of the book but I flew through the last part. The twists and turns really kept me intrigued right to the last page.
I loved the family dynamics, obviously I can't comment on the representation side of things as it's nothing like my experience with family but I loved how all the Aunties blamed each other and the constant competition.
Nathan has my heart, honestly he was such a wonderful love interest.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who ends romance and wants to branch out into more murder mystery style books without going too intense as it was just the right amount of tense.

This was my favourite read of the year so far. Perfect - nothing else to say - hilarious, swoony, intense, mysterious, more hilarious.
I accept that some of the dark humour may not be for everyone but I was completely hooked from start to finish. There was an ethical grey area to enable to ending, so I do still ponder about that one (can’t give much else away)! But overall - it was amazing and a wonderful, gamechanging newcomer to romance.

Meddy is horrified when she finds out her mother has created an online dating profile for her and arranged a date but things are only going to get worse when she accidentally kills her date. She asks her mother and aunties for help hiding the body during the biggest wedding event that they have ever worked.

This was such a fun entertaining read which I really enjoyed. I liked the main character Meddy and the relationship she had with her mother and aunties. Whilst the plot is not the most realistic this didn't stop me from really enjoying it. I found some moments to be really funny and I couldn't help laughing out loud. I've heard that this booking is being adapted by Netflix and this makes me so excited because I think this story will work really as a film and I can't wait to see it.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and would really recommend it if you are looking for a funny read. I look forward to seeing what the author brings out next.

This is a light, fun read! I snorted, laughed out loud, raised my eyebrows, screamed, belly laughed and squirmed my way through this hilarious book.

I read it in a day, what a way to spend a wet Sunday, I couldn’t put it down.

The author shared some of her heritage, beliefs, customs and traditions in this comedy thriller. Meddy’s mother and her aunties are a hoot, I loved them all. Unconditional love, support and care, even though there’s a touch of dark humour and a man died.

It really is a fabulous and entertaining read, brilliant and as Jesse Sutanto says, this is a barmy story and you have to have an open mind and embrace how batty and whacky it is. The way it has been written is true to form, even if there are a few unbelievable parts to the plot from my point of view.

It was crazy, chaotic and moving towards farce and the absurd which will make you smile and even laugh out loud.

No spoilers!!! Some reviews do give a few away, so be careful, however they didn’t spoil it for me. So if you’re in need for a good laugh a bit of romance and intrigue, this is available now so just buy it and enjoy the ride! It’s brilliant.

And it’s going to be a Netflix movie! I can’t wait.

Thank you HQ, NetGalley and Jesse Sutanto for this ARC provided in exchange for my unbiased review.

This is just the funniest and also weirdest book I have read in ages. It’s a farcical comedy thriller caper with a romantic subplot and yes that’s a lot of genres but it’s just wonderful. Meddelin is a charming character - she’s trying to figure out how to live her own life and achieve her dreams but without disappointing her family. But when the date goes wrong it turns out that her family have got her back no matter what. The aunts and their bickering is hilarious. But they’re all also very good at their day jobs - which is why the body disposal is so much fun. And yes, as a premise it’s a bit dark, but just go with it and the dark humour all gets balanced out by the fun and frothy wedding antics. And I loved the details about Meddy’s Chinese and Indonesian heritage.

I hope this is absolutely massive - I hope like my future is full of people asking for recommendations for books like this - even though there isn’t really anything like it that I can think off. Think Steph Plum crossed with Aunty Lee, with a dash of Crazy Rich Asians and you’re sort of getting there. the afterword says it’s already been optioned by Netflix and I can’t wait to watch what they do with it.
