In The Secrets of Meadow Farmhouse we meet Amelia who receives the news that her great-aunt, Vera has left her Meadow Farmhouse in her will. Amelia’s plan is to return to her childhood home in Meadowbank, restore the farmhouse and then get back to her life in Paris. Sounds like Amelia has it all sorted, right?! What follows is a story of second chance romance, friendships and even a touch of mystery.

You know that warm and comforting feeling you sometimes get from a book. Well, The Secrets of Meadow Farmhouse had that in abundance! For me it was such a wonderful escape. I was whisked away to Meadowbank with Amelia and within a short space of time I wished it was a real place so I could visit myself.

Even though there was a heartwarming aspect to the plot the author also managed to create a depth to the story. This at times brought a more bittersweet feel to the surface and I found these moments really helped to create a more rounded story.

The thread of mystery running throughout was also a brilliant addition. The short but intriguing prologue started this mystery and ran alongside an engaging and gorgeous romance. This brings me nicely to Amelia and Adam. What can I say? I really enjoyed getting to know this pair. With the past putting up so many barriers. I did wonder if they would even become friends again let alone anything more. There was a definite slow burn to the romance but it also felt more believable that way. It’s safe to say I was rooting for them to get their happy ever after!

The Secrets of Meadow Farmhouse had an engaging romance alongside a wonderful cosy feel that charmed me from the very beginning!

I enjoyed this story very much. It is a gentle romance. When Amelia Williams was a young girl her parents died, and her aunt Vera had felt obliged to take her in and bring her up. Most of the time though they had an uncomfortable relationship, Vera did not really want her, and was often cold and critical of her. Her life would have been very miserable if she hadn’t had Adam Noble as a friend. His father had recently run off with another woman, and Adam was glad that the rows between his parents stopped but angry that his father had deserted them. The friendship between Amelia and Adam was very important to both of them. Vera kept herself to herself, and kept the village people at arms length.

When Amelia was eighteen she went off to university, Vera didn’t approve and told her not to come back, so she didn’t. Sadly that meant she left Adam behind as well, and as time passed it became more difficult to contact him. Once university was finished she moved to Paris for work and contact with her aunt was reduced to occasional birthday and Christmas cards. She has her own business as an interior design specialist, and is quite successful. Then her aunt dies and leaves Amelia her cottage, Meadow Farm. She is forced to return to England to sort everything out, and plans on selling the house and returning to France.

Most of the people in the village are very pleased to see her, and Amelia starts to realise that she misses this life, where she knows nearly everyone, yet in Paris she doesn’t even know her neighbours; she loves the way that everyone rallies round when someone needs support. Adam still lives in the village so it is inevitable they will meet at some point. Amelia finds something that belonged to her aunt and decides she needs to find out why she had been so antisocial. Her search leads to unexpected self-knowledge, and memories of her aunt that show a different side to her character.

The characters are well-written and the gentle story is well thought out. A definite feel-good read.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The plot skipped along nicely with a mystery and a possible romance to keep the reader interested. Well written, I particularly loved the descriptions surrounding of the countryside surrounding the farmhouse. Recommended.

Really lovely read.... exploring the distant and not so distant past. A little predictable but nevertheless an enjoyable read with lovely rounded believable characters. Amelia returns home from Paris as she inherits her great aunt's house. Inevitably along the way this takes her on a journey in to her aunt's past and also her own.....

The Secrets of Meadow Farmhouse is a beautiful emotive read, that will take the reader on a voyage of discovery uncovering long-held family secrets and enabling the main character, Amelia to come to terms with events and people in her life.

Amelia lives in Paris but is returning home to the village of Meadowbank following the death of her estranged Great Aunt Vera. Amelia was raised by her great aunt but they parted on bad terms ten years ago. Amelia hasn’t been back since, however, she gradually develops a sense of home, place, and a feeling of belonging as she comes to terms with her upbringing and losses.

Packed with interesting and vivid characters, including Amelia's first love, Adam, this was a beautifully written, humorous story of love, friendship, dreams, acceptance, secrets, forgiveness, and making decisions. It has a lovely feel in terms of the locale and a strong sense of community. Dashes of sparkling romance kept things fizzing and everything was wrapped up very nicely in the end. A wonderful read with a fresh spring feel, this is a book that I will certainly be recommending to friends and family.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ Digital via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I love a small town romance! I also seem to be reading a lot of farm based books at the minute, maybe I need a change of scenery.

This took me a couple of chapters to get into it, the first few pages I really wasn’t feeling the love. But then… BAM! I fell in love with the story and raced through it. Begin a romance you know exactly who is going to get together at the end, I’d be disappointed if I didn’t. The joy is in the story to get them there. And this book was full of joy.

Amelia didn’t miss the town where she was brought up and when she’s left her childhood home her only intention is to get it renovated in order to sell it and get back to her new home of Paris. She never felt at home there and never felt loved. She’s more than happy with her life in Paris where she’s built up a very successful interior design business that is her life.

I love a small town romance because I love the small town atmosphere, you’re not an outsider in a small town, there’s a real sense of community and this is shown so well in this book.

If you’re looking for a sweet second chance romance then you won’t go far wrong with this!

This isn't my normal sort of read but a friend recommended it and I really enjoyed it despite it being fairly predictable romance wise. Amelia has inherited her great-aunt Vera's farmhouse and has to leave her home in Paris to clear it out and put it on the market. She's nervous of returning to the village where she had grown up and had also ditched her first love. How will the villagers receive her? What secret was Vera concealing?
This is an entertaining read -I think we've all entertained a day dream of inheriting a lovely old house so the setting is perfect.

A fascinating book with a will she won’t she conundrum. I enjoyed reading this to see what would happen hoping for the right outcome. Definitely recommended to those readers who enjoy reading this type of book.

I really enjoy Katie Ginger novels but unfortunately I just didn't like this one as much as the others I've read by this author. It felt quite a slow read and I couldn't connect with the main character. I did like the location and some parts of the storyline was intriguing but overall, it just wasn't for me.

Katie Ginger is becoming one of my favourite authors. I read this in two sittings as it's such a delightful book to read.
Amelia learns that her aunt has died and left her Meadow Farmhouse. She makes the journey back to where she grew up after her parents died.
To complicate matters her old love Adam still lives in the village.
Amelia sets to work decorating the farmhouse ready to sell so she can return to Paris but things don't quite go to plan.
Can Adam and Amelia's love for each other overcome the hurdles? Amelia is also trying to find out more about her au to past life.
I do love books that are set in villages it feels like everyone is so friendly.
Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the opportunity to read

The Secrets of Meadow Farmhouse is an okay book. It wasn't necessarily good or bad just okay. The chapters seemed to drag on for ages and the book is around 600 pages when honestly it should be 300 pages. The setting seemed like it would be idyllic and the book comforting but the book fell very flat for me. It was a disappointing read overall.

This book was such an emotionally charged ‘return to roots’ story about Amelia returning to her Great Aunt Vera’s farmhouse after the death of her Great Aunt.

Amelia had lived in Paris after she left the farmhouse ten years earlier, following an argument with her Great Aunt Vera. With her life established in Paris, and a thriving interior design business, she has it fixed in her mind that she will sort out the farmhouse, get it on the market and return to Paris as soon as possible.

When Amelia arrives back in the village of Meadowbank she finds that some things have changed and some have remained constant. What she did not count on was finding that her first love Adam is there and unavoidable.

I loved Amelia as a protagonist. She showed immense strength but at the same time was open to her vulnerabilities. Although she was embarrassed by the way she had walked out of Adam’s life, it took her returning to the village to realise that she had been unable to separate her connection with him and with the village from the hurt she felt from the final conversation she had with Vera.

I loved the way in which Amelia put her hurt to one side and set out to uncover the mysteries surrounding Vera’s past, which resulted in her finding comfort and understanding.

When Amelia was taken ill I found it so touching that the whole village rallied round her, making sure she had her meals completely catered for. I would love to live in a community like that!

It was really touching to read the author’s note that this story found its origins within her own family history. This was such a lovely romance-led story with secrets to be uncovered and forgiveness to be sought. I really hope we get to return to Meadowbank again, it was such a comforting location.

I love a book that has a bit more to it than the romance and this book was exactly that.

Amelia loves her life in Paris but a death in the family calls her back home. Amelia dreads heading back to the village she grew up in and the man she loved but ran from.

To start with, I liked the change from Paris to the small village. Sometimes with changes like this the original location can be skimmed over quickly but I felt like there was so much detail put into Paris to help make us understand why Amelia loved living there so much.

Most of all, I loved the history within the story and Amelia trying to find out about her Great Aunt Vera’s past. Not only did this make us understand her more but it helped to introduce lots of interesting characters and information about the village Amelia had gone back to.

The romance, for me, was secondary to the mystery aspect but in a good way. Adam didn’t take anything away from what Amelia was trying to do but instead was there, was supportive and helped her. However, I could have done with a bit more from him and Amelia with regards to their past but I can overlook that really.

Another absolutely brilliant book by Katie Ginger. A beautiful setting, likeable characters, revisiting the past in order to move forward all make this a captivating story.

I always know with a Katie Ginger book that I am going to have a warm, enjoyable read and it was true for this one as well. The setting is gorgeous. A rather broken- down farmhouse situated in the midst of the countryside and near a caring community. Of course, Amelia didn't realise quite what a gem the community was, at first. She has run to Paris after University and turned her back on her great aunt and her friends. At first, her harsh memories blind her to certain truths. However, the more she finds out about the past, the more she begins to understand why her aunt seemed so distant at times.

Adam is a great central male figure and one you take to from the start. Of course, he has a lot of unresolved anger towards Amelia to sort out. Family and friendship are both featured throughout the story as Amelia starts to contrast her friends in Paris with the people she meets back in the village. This is a heart-warming read which welcomes you in.

In short: You can't escape your past

What drew me into The Secrets Of Meadow Farmhouse was the cover, it is everything I love in a book.
Amelia is a interior designer and lives in Paris, when her Aunt Vera dies and leaves her Meadow Farmhouse she returns to sell it.
Adam has been nursing a broken heart since Amelia left for university 10 years ago and never returned, as Amelia comes back to the village she discovers there are secrets in her family she wants to learn more about and with Adams help they try to solve her family mysteries.
A lovely warm story of friendships old and new set in a lovely little village full of community spirit. A very enjoyable read.
Thank you HQ, NetGalley and Katie Ginger for an early copy.
