The runaway bride, who experiences an incredible shock, still mournful writer, future dog mother, and the story is made.
This is my first book of this author and I admit I am very pleasantly surprised. The story is fluid, beautifully written with great humor (although with English humor, which is a little incomprehensible at the moment), which puts you in front of the fact that you have to face your own fears, otherwise you can not live normally.

I enjoyed this book from the get-go. It's not common to start out a story with a bride, married only 3 hours, running away from her reception in a gown and rain boots (wellies). While running, Kit, eventually hitchhikes and is picked up none other than Jack Duffy, author of the children's books her nephews love; though she doesn't know it at the time. What ensues is tale with humor, hardships, romance, and some twists.

This is another new to be author and I really enjoyed her writing style. The characters were loveable and pretty diverse. Following Kit and Jack as they deal with their struggles will make you laugh and may even make you cry. You can't help but fall in love with them and cheer them on as they navigate their relationship. Add in Petra, Ethan, Laurel, and Aunty Julia and you've got a diverse group of secondary characters that each add something.

I struggled with some of the terms and humor given that this is written with British humor and terms; however, that didn't take away from me enjoying this book. I recommend this book to readers looking for a light romcom and those looking for a quick, easy read.

The premise of The Runaway Bride was so fun, and I was super excited to read this one. Unfortunately, it didn't click with me. Admittedly, I was reading this while I was in a funk, so that definitely might explain this, but I couldn't really connect with the characters the way I wanted to. Kitty seemed a bit immature to me, so I struggled to properly root for her.

I thought this was a nice and light read though a touch predictable. There are several cute characters and a sweet story, but I found Kitty a bit annoying at times. But still an enjoyable read

I knew Jack and Kitty were destined from the start- two broken souls who made their way to one another through kismet. This was a quick read that was light hearted with a touch of serious undertones (death and psychological abuse). The puppies won my heart over, as did Jack and Kitty.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of The Runaway Bride by Mary Jayne Baker. I’ve voluntarily read and reviewed this copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In The Runaway Bride we meet Kitty. Kitty is on the run after just having the worst day of her life. Determined that she will never return home she tries to make a plan to start a new life. She runs into Jack Duffy, an author of children’s books who travels around in his camper and who offers her a place to stay. Together on the road both Kitty and Jack find themselves working through their difficult times.

Unfortunately this wasn’t my cup of tea. I was intrigued by the premise but I didn’t feel like it delivered. It could’ve been more in my opinion. The story was very predictable and the characters felt a bit flat to me. I wasn’t really rooting for either of the characters. Just for the doggy and her babies to be honest.

I did appreciate the character development and growth that both Kitty and Jack went through and was satisfied with the ending.

This was not what I expected. I think I expected a cute romcom, but this was so much more.

I feel like I've read a lot of books about weddings that almost happen or a bride who calls off her wedding. But in this case, Kitty gets married. But then sees something awful at the reception that literally makes her run away.

Kitty is also very controlled by her mother and her fiancé. They both treat her like a child who can't make her own decisions. They are possibly the worst book characters EVER. Like for real, they sucked. They were such gaslighters, it made your heart hurt to read about them.

But Kitty finds a great guy in Jack. He is a stranger who takes her under his wing and helps her stand up to her bullies. Jack had his own demons to deal with, but it really did seem that they needed each other.

Seriously, this was such a good book. We got our HEA and it's so rewarding seeing Kitty happy.

5/5 stars!

I do not know how I feel about this book. I know I should like it but I was more confused when I finished the book. I just could not understand why Kitty kept running away from her problems. No matter what situation she gets into, she immediately wants to run away asap. It's like she is not prepared for life at all. And she has no urgency in getting her life in order. She is just going with the flow. That makes no sense to me.

A fun light read though predictable where one gets sucked into the story from 1st page itself.. A book which deals with grief and how one copes with it. There are several cute comic moments between the MCs Kitty and Jack , one cannot help but root for them as they make quite a pair together!!
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was a sweet smipredictable read but I needed a light read. The main character was fun and witty.

A fun and cute rom com with a side of seriousness. The setting and story both worked well even if I did find the main character a bit of a doormat. She seemed to grow throughout the story so it worked out.

This is a true romcom book with good characters and very enjoyable. The sort of novel that we need in these trying days, good for the beach or a shady spot to keep cool. 4 stars.

Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC

Oh Kitty – so ready to be married. Or is she? Apparently not as she fled the church without phone, money or even a decent change of shoes or clothes – to hitchhike far far away in her wedding gown and wellies.....

Jack, itinerant children’s book author also ‘running’ from his own guilt after his wife’s death stops to see if Kitty needs help (oh does she ever!) and soon the two have formed a loose partnership of caring for one another and looking out – just until they are up on their feet that is.

Mary Jayne Baker writes stories with characters that are instantly empathetic, enjoyable and intriguing – even when they aren’t at their best. Both Kitty and Jack have solid senses of humor, find joy in little things even when life is darkest, and tend to a bit of impulse. But Kitty is far more unsettled here: the impulse that led her to leave her own wedding and spend time ‘trying to sort out her life’ isn’t without its moments of hilarity, pitfalls and far more thought than one would expect from the start of the book. Jack too has his issues that with the help of Kitty and his desire to help her find her way brings him a sense of peace and a settling of his grieving process, allowing him to move forward. Together these two are spectacular, but even alone each character stands solidly on their own with hopes, dreams, faults and personality that makes it hard for readers to choose a favorite among them: but simply to cheer on their journey toward new starts and new opportunities for life and love.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Funny cute and entertaining. The h&h are really good characters and I really liked them. This was a good romcom. I needed something light and something that would make me feel better and this was definitely it. I definitely recommend.

A charming, frolicky, read-in-one-day book. Its compelling and enjoyable. It gave me enough depth as the love interests came to each other with their past scars, similar to Beth O'Leary. I like that the characters had to solve their own issues, rather than love fixing all their issues. As with every romance I've read, you have to suspend your disbelief, but that doesn't ruin it for me.

This was a sweet story about Kitty, who runs away from her wedding after seeing something unspeakable, and Jack, who scoops her up in his camper van, and lots of romance novel tropes and wholesome events ensue. I enjoyed reading this book, and it was such an easy read that I completed it in a day.
Fully recommend as a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Runaway Bride is a story of two people who literally find each other off the side of the road - Kitty has fled her wedding on foot, and is found by Jack, a man with no fixed address. Through this serendipitous event, they both run away together, but as everyone knows, you can’t keep running you eventually have to stop.

It’s a sweet. charming story of two lost people helping each other heal their hearts. Kitty has an issue standing up for herself after being gaslit and overruled in her relationships. Jack is a widower who is still grieving the loss of his wife. While this is a bit more ‘serious’ in backstory for Mary Jayne Baker, it’s still an instant buy. My only quibble is I didn’t like the end revelation, it’s a bit too American romance novel for me, which I’m not a fan of. But overall another MJB winner.

3.5 stars
