Good, fast paced thriller with enjoyable narration.

This isn't a flawless book, but it's an engaging story that would probably appeal to many mystery lovers.

I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and publisher HarperCollins UK Audio in exchange for an honest review.

The Therapist is the story of Alice, a woman who moves into a new home and becomes obsessed with the woman who lived there before her. Convinced by a visitor to investigate, she starts to suspect that her new neighbours aren't all what they seem.

This was a decent, well-crafted thriller if a bit basic. I read it two months ago and don't remember a ton of the details now, but I enjoyed it quite a bit as an audiobook experience. I remember confusing two of the characters/not being quite sure what was going on at certain points, but the ending was satisfying enough and it had a decent amount of tension. Sadly I can't remember much more detail than that but I've definitely read worse thrillers.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

I really enjoyed the audio version of The Therapist. We're told the story of Leo and Amy who move into their first some together in an exclusive gated residence in London - The Circle. It's cliquey to say the very least and Tamsin in particular doesn't seem to like Amy very much. Before long we find out that it's because Tamsin's best friend, Nina, was murdered by her husband in Amy's new home.
This comes as news to Amy, but it soon transpires that Leo isn't telling her the whole truth.

A random stranger turns up at their housewarming who isn't all he seems, and seeds of doubt over who really killed Nina are planted.

Is the killer still in the loose? Who is Leo? And who is Tom?

All of these questions are answered in a plot the reveals just the right amount of detail at the right time to keep you hanging and intrigued in the story.

I love the narrator, I loved the plot. This was a great thriller.

I was so glad I got a chance to listen to the latest audio book called Narrated by: The Therapist by B A Paris and Narrated by: Olivia Dowd, and Thomas Judd. This was an ok listen and gave up as the narrators were boring and tedious this did not give this latest book by B.A Paris credit!.
However, I did enjoy this book, once I ended up purchasing this book and reading it for myself. Shame though as it's a good book once you read it yourself!

So 3 stars for the narrators and 4 stars for the book.

Big thank you to Netgalley and HQ thank both Netgalley, HarperCollins UK Audio and HQ for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This book is the definition of escapism, so recommended it for a read (or a listen in my case), especially this summer. I liked the premise of the story and it was well executed. The main character was quite dumb in my opinion and missing clues which i clocked on - and I always find that frustrating. I like a story with lots of secrets to unravel and enjoyed getting to know the neighbours.

I am a sucker for Adult Pschological Thrillers that really make you feel like you want to beat the author... the Plot is bit so well the clues/diversions interspersed so well that you are driven to be able to say AHA! I figured it out.

I did not figure it out
I did not beat her.

The main character is whiney

Paris shines more in building and writing the characters you hate. It takes real talent to write those books and she does it well

The Therapist is narrated by Olivia Dowd and Thomas Judd and is roughly 10 hours long.

Like all of B.A Paris books it is full of twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it an entertaining audio. I loved that it is narrated by two narrators which gives you a feel for the characters. With them being male and female this makes perfect sense to me. And brings them both to life.

You can feel the mystery and suspense through the story. The more I listened to the more I wanted to know. It was very addictive to say the least

Get me guessing right up until the end. A good thriller with less of the frustration of many when the characters are so blind to things or can't see what is happening. You are really drawn into the main character of Alice's story and although you wish that she asks some crucial questions at the right time she mostly is blameless in getting caught up in the odd goings on around her. A good twisty story to lead you up the garden path and back again!

#TheTherapist by #BAParis was a mixed bag for me. Usually I am totally enthralled with the characters and the plot of BAParis’s books. I just think the therapy plots just aren’t doing it for me at the moment…… However I was also a little disappointed with Alice, perhaps that’s the sign of a good author to provoke a reaction… I did not predict the twists and turns and it is only on reflection that the truly unsettling moments are revealed. I did enjoy this one, but it just doesn’t rank among her other books for me. I will definitely look out for future releases from this author, Thank you to #Netgalley for providing me an advance audio copy of #TheTherapist in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book, my first by this author. Very gripping. A real page-turner, not that you have pages to turn with an audio book! Liked the narration too. Have to say that I had guessed the ending which was a shame.
I know a book review doesn't normally mentioned the cover but I absolutely love the cover. Sort of image that would look good framed on a wall!

Creepy, unusual domestic thriller, where everyone has a secret. I loved the writing style and plot. The emotions, lies, and betrayals seem very real and add an emotional depth to the thriller. I also loved that it was based around a gated community as I have always wondered what secrets are in a gated community. However, the length of the book stopped being suspenseful and started to drag a little, and the main character was totally naive, mistrusting of all her friends (from before), which is a bit frustrating compared to the strength she showed in other areas. Other than that I really enjoyed the atmosphere, twists, and turns.

I have mixed feelings about this audiobook. Behind Closed Doors is a big favourite of mine, so I had great hopes for this book. Starting with the positive points I felt that narration was excellent. The book was easy on the ear andwas a great listen for the last ten days or so on my work commute.
Now for the not so positive...My issues stem from some of the characterisation. Alice I felt was intensely annoying at times. Some of the logic she used was baffling and as a result I really get some of the plot line. The conversations between the characters I felt was slightly stilted and not necessarily how people would converse. For example - when Alice and a neighbour were discussing booking a table at the orangery for afternoon tea, the exchange was ridiculously formal and I felt unnatural.

As for the big reveal of the murderer, I didn’t really have a big surprise at the end. It became quite obvious to me who the culprit was - which made Alice even more infuriating.

Not a bad book, but I felt it could have been better.

Really enjoyed the storyline for this one and it kept me guessing throughout which is always a bonus!
My only complaint was the female main character came across a little annoying on audio which took me out of the story at times but did not spoil my overall enjoyment 🙂

I really enjoyed this audiobook, the story was gripping and had a lot of twists and turns. At times I was sure I knew who had done it, but it cleverly led me to draw different conclusions as the book went on. I listened to the last three hours in one stint as I didn’t want to stop!

Audio: Narrator was excellent, lovely voice and the story itself was just really engrossing, and the audio narrator made it nice to listen to despite some of the creepy goings on!

When Alice and Leo move into a new home in London, Alice feels overjoyed. But as she gets to know her neighbours, soon she discovers something terrible - the previous owner of the home was murdered - right in her very bedroom. Something about the murder - and the verdict it was the husband that killed her - doesn't sit right with Alice and she finds herself eyeing up those closest to her with suspicion.

Like all BA Paris books, this served up exactly what I was looking for - a domestic suspense with fast, plotty writing and the type of story that had you jumping from one guess to the next while waiting with bated breath to find out the truth. I really liked this book from start to finish and while I wouldn't say the big 'whodunnit' was a complete gasp shock, I really liked how we got there.

BA Paris is brilliant at just bringing a story together from all angles, and giving you characters you like and distrust all at the same time. Her books are generally always very domestic in setting too and are not full of bodies and blood and gore but a normal setting of a suburban London street with kids playing out the front. And this ramps up the tension more sometimes because it feels like the crimes happening could happen anywhere.

This wasn't one of my favourites of BA Paris but definitely not one of the worst I've read. A good middle of the stack! And I definitely recommend the audiobook.

I listened to the audio version of this , read primarily by Olivia Dowd. The title and synopsis appealed as I love reading about fictional therapists. Sadly though this was disappointing from the beginning. I found the narration flat and it did not draw me into the story or the characters. The plot was slow paced and unconvincing with little depth and lazy writing. I found the whole premise of Alice's move to London and the Circle unbelievable and the entire book was lacking in suspense. Thank you for the opportunity to listen but this was not for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.

A fast-paced domestic thriller with a few surprises!

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook, the narrator was easy to listen to and brought the story to life.

There was a bit of repetitiveness in the middle, but it picked up towards the end with a couple of twists I didn’t see coming.

I kept hearing about this book so was interested to read/listen. It started well but was a slow burner for sure. The storyline could be repetitive and at times went around in circles. The flow of the plot worked well even if a bit slow and I liked how it was written as each character was my perpetrator at one point or another. I did find Alice was exhausting as a character though and some aspects of the storyline were a little unbelievable. The pace did pick up near the end and it was an interesting outcome. The pace and not enough going on let it down for me unfortunately.

3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟

Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC that was published on the 15th of April.

Another audiobook to accompany me on my Covid walks (you would think, by now, that I am rake thin with all this exercise, but no such luck!). And it was engrossing.

The novel is set around the up-market, gated community called The Circle, in Finsbury Park. The 12 dwellings of which are built to resemble the face of a clock, with a square and playground at the centre. There is an electronic entry system and it's all super safe for being pretty much in the heart of London.

Alice is in a relationship with Leo and after only a short time together, she finds herself moving into one of the houses on the estate, which has sat vacant for a considerable time. Leo has bought it at a knockdown price because it seems there is a rather dark history, involving a previous owner, Nina Maxwell and her husband. Leo is quite a persuasive young man and, as time moves on, Alice discovers more about the events that took place in her home. She starts to question her relationship with Leo - is it what she thought it was? It turns out he knew much of the history of the house and didn't divulge it to Alice because he 'wanted' that house. Had she known the details, she may well have vetoed the purchase.

She enquires of her neighbours about what exactly happened in her house but they remain rather shtum about the whole episode and seem more intent on keeping their little London enclave free from prying eyes. Tamsin, she notes, has taken an early dislike to her, Eve seems like a potential friend and then there is an older couple who seem to keep themselves to themselves.

She and Leo throw a drinks party and a man arrives who seems unfamiliar to the group, in other words, not a local resident. How did he gate crash their party? He soon introduces himself to Alice as a PI investigating the previous events at their house, in the hope that he can find out more about worrying details. She is more than amenable to help him in his quest because she has hit a real brick wall surrounding the mystery. Soon it seems plausible that she is imagining odd things - is someone coming into their  house at night, are things being moved.... is she, in fact, losing her mind? A subtle nod to the film Gaslight.

Most of the book is in the present but there are flashbacks to a therapist, a rather unforgiving observer of foibles... how might that link to what is going on in The Circle?

I was caught up in the story and just let myself go with the flow of twists and turns and subtle deviations. This is a well paced novel to keep you turning the pages into the wee small hours.

I liked the idea of the therapist when I read the synopsis but after listening to the audiobook, I felt it was seriously lacking in suspense, It was monotonous & dragged on but the ending was a bit of a surprise and the choice of narrator was wrong for this type of book, Not my best listen. Sorry
