A paranoid thriller with a steady pace and exciting plot.
The tech route is done thing we all have experience in which makes this book more valid than ever.
Characters were well written and the setting from the house made all the more claustrophobic by the over-the-top security.
Enjoyed!

This was a thrilling read and I was entertained until the very end. I haven't read anything by this author before, but will add him on my list from now on. Recommended for anyone who likes a gripping thriller.

A great tecnothriller.

We all rely on technology so much today but what if it fails us.

I loved how detailed the house was in the descriptions and the building sense of unease and tension.

This was fast paced with plenty of twists to leave you guessing. I think it helped that I really liked writing style and bonded with the characters.

A well told thriller which seemed a bit sluggish at the start but did up the pace after awhile. I don’t want to give any spoilers so won’t go into any of the plot some of which seemed obvious but most of which was very tense. An easy read but the subject matter was a bit boring for me. Perhaps it’s an age thing.

Their new 'smart home' is Joe's dream. A remote cottage where everything - from the lighting to the locks - is controlled through an app. It's the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern convenience. What better place for them to escape after all Lauren's trauma?

Lauren desperately wants Joe to be happy after all she's put him through, so she doesn't tell him how much she hates being so dependent on technology. How vulnerable it makes them.

Then 'the incidents' begin.

Joe thinks Lauren is the victim of her own fevered imagination. But Lauren can't be sure. She doesn't believe in ghosts, but she also knows the past rarely stays buried. And she is haunted by one question:

Is their past finally catching up with them?

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book and inviting me to be on the tour.

This book was quite thought provoking. How fast the world is move ing in relation to technology and how quick we are to replace certain things with machines and robots, got me thinking “could I live in a smart home?”. After reading this novel, the answer is no!!

The book was slow paced to begin with, the author really setting the scene and introducing us to the characters. When the pace picked up, it was a real sit on the edge of your seat book.

The book was original and suspenseful and I was second guessing everything throughout the book.

I would highly recommend this book

Joe’s dream to have a state-of-the-art smart home in the countryside soon becomes a nightmare for his partner, Lauren. The remote countryside house was meant to be the perfect escape from Lauren’s traumatic past – a fresh start. A unique contrast of old and scenic charm with modern and innovative technology. Everything in the house, from the lighting to audio systems, is controlled via an app. It works marvellously – until Lauren is alone – then it turns into a house of techy horrors. The house starts to torment Lauren, and she is not safe, but no one believes her – even Joe thinks her paranoia is playing up. It is only when Lauren nearly dies Joe realises there is something dreadfully sinister at play.

This book sucked me in like a powerful vacuum. The idea of a smart home has always intrigued me. Although I have never been paranoid about A.I. or Skynet or the Matrix, it did get me thinking about the possibilities and vulnerabilities of so-called “smart systems”.

The story was superbly plotted and easy to follow. Lauren and Joe were great characters, although Joe was a bit of a moron! I felt the Police were so darn annoying in this book. They were pretty much wrong about everything and were constantly making things worse! It annoyed me how quickly they made assumptions and then acted on them without doing much proper police work. It’s not unrealistic, I suppose, as I have seen Police so desperate to prosecute that they jump to conclusions.

I was not expecting the ending, and although there were parts of this story that seemed a bit farfetched and took away from the realism, it was a brilliant read. Gripping. Claustrophobic, a bit scary, but incredibly entertaining.

I highly recommend this book!

A slow start for me but once the scene was set and you got to know the characters it was a good thriller,I did question why Lauren ever moved to the Country as she never really was a t ease there but the smart house gave her more reason to feel uneasy and with just cause……..
Tense in parts, altogether a satisfying read

Loved this book! Anything to do with a smart house and I’m instantly sucked it. Technology both amazes me and scares me at the same time. This is the type of book which grabs the reader's attention from the very early chapters. I was hooked on the book from chapter 2 and was unable to put the book down... I have read my fair share of thrillers but this will be on my recommended list for a long time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don't think I would like to live in a house where everything is controlled by an app. I have read a couple of books that have had "smart homes" in them and nothing good comes from them. This book is no different.

The pace is steady, the plotline is gripping and i was hooked after a few chapters. This is one of those books you can't say too much about as I would spoil it for potential readers. There were times when i was on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put the book down. I highly recommend this book.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #LittleBrownBookGroupUK and the author #EganHughes for my ARC of #LeaveTheLightsOn in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyable read, a great concept especially in light of the ever-growing presence of technology in our lives. I think a lot of people have a nightmare that relying so much on tech will cause problems, and this thriller brings that nightmare into reality. A fast-paced read, good characters, and satisfying conclusion.

How Safe Are You Really....?
How safe are you really in the new smart home environment? Twisting and turning suspense which centres around just that. Joe has his dream of the ultimate smart home, everything is controlled by new technology, but with the olde worlde delight of a remote, chocolate box cottage. Lauren doesn’t agree. She loathes the control but is desperate for Joe to be happy. When bizarre events invade their lives the questions begin. A suspense which will keep the reader turning those pages.

This is a decent thriller about a woman's fear of her 'smart home'.

Joe and Lauren move into their prototype smart home, which does everything from heat the floors and source the mood lighting, to boil water from the tap and play music from speakers hidden within the walls. But, Lauren doesn't feel safe there and she has reason to be scared. Someone is watching her, but who and why?

There's nothing particularly new in the telling of this, but, it's an enjoyable, easy read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.

Would you ever live in a Smart Home? Where everything can be controlled by an App or AI?

After reading this story, I can tell you that I probably never will.

This book is great at making you feel uncomfortable and question everything you have just read. Great story!

A new author for me, took me a while to get into this book but once I got into it I thoroughly enjoyed it. Full of suspense, not an 'edge of seater' for me but a good well written book with interesting characters.

Thank you to Netgalley and Little Brown B.G. for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Little Brown Book Group UK for the arc of Leave the Lights On by Egan Hughes.

5 star read- This is my first book from Egan Hughes and this follows Joe's dream which is a smart home, which is actually a posh cottage in which everything from lighting to even locks are all controlled from a simple app on your device everything is controlled by this app nothing is manual. This sounds modern right.. Lauren just wants joe to be happy and enjoy himself after all she did to him.. not spoiling what she did.. but because it is all dependent on technology and Lauren doesn't like that she keeps that to herself and don't tell him this... then some things happen which they think may be ghosts or something but this worries lauren as to think is her past catching up to her/found her....

This is a must read it was so interesting, gripping and had me at the end of your seat, wasnt expecting this to happen.

Highly recommend
