A story about siblings love and rivalry. A magical enchanted crayon can solve everything or can it? Discover this intriguing story of creativity and imagination. It will certainly sparkle curiosity and imagination in children. The pictures are beautifully drawn, complementing and adding to the story. Ideal for KS1, a great addition to the school and home library.

The Magic Crayon by Amy Sprakes, illustrated by Ali Pye and published by Allen Lane.

Thank you to Netgalley and for the opportunity to read and review a digital copy of this book.

Wow! I absolutely love this book and can’t wait to share it with my children.
The wonderfully vibrant illustrations are magical alone, but teamed with the wonderful rhyming text you are transported through various fairy tales at the flick of Chloe’s magic crayon.

This is an enchanting story, Chloe is told off for something her brother Jack did. When sent to her room she draws a scary Witch to go and tell Jack off, but things soon escalate and a chase through fairy tales unfolds in clever and entertaining brilliance! Will Chloe go through the ultimate yuck to save Jack?

A wonderful book that is going to have children hooked and inspired to see what adventures they can create with their own magic crayons!

A lovely, rhyming tale with beautiful illustrations. My 5 year old son enjoyed this two nights in a row. It reminded us of Dinosaurs Don’t Draw by Elli Woollard. There are a couple of places where the rhyming feels somewhat forced or doesn’t flow as well as it could but a really enjoyable story overall.

What a lovely imaginative rhyming story. This picture book tells the story of a little girl called Chloe who finds a magical crayon and then uses it to rescue her little brother from a witch. My 6 year old daughter loved the magical element of this story. A crayon that could draw things that came to life really captured her imagination. This story has everything: magic, fairy tale characters, unicorns and a fun adventure to overcome some baddies. It also has some lovely illustrations that help to bring the story to life. I would definitely use this book in an early years or infant class and I think it would really enhance a fairytales or magical creatures topic.

An enchanting story with vibrant illustrations! Read this with my five year old and we both enjoyed it, the writing rhymes and has a lovely flow to it and the story itself is entertaining and child-friendly. Well worth a read for the young ones in your life!

This beautifully illustrated rhyming book takes us on a magical, sibling journey. Jack and Chloe argue but ultimately help each other, with the help of Chloe's magic crayon. We loved how Amy Sparkes has incorporated tradition fairy tale characters and features into this modern story. My children at home imagined all the possibilities that the crayon could provide and it would be a pleasure to introduce this book to KS1 children.

What a wonderful book! Thank you @netgalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review. We got a kindle copy, which has a few errors but this is most likely due to it being transferred to e-book format.

Amy Sparkes' book is wonderful - I love the rhyming style throughout and the story is engaging and fun for young children. Having a boy and girl of my own who don't see eye to eye most of the time but who still love each other makes the story ring very true! Chloe and her brother Jack may disagree but when Chloes magic crayon can make pictures come to life then the real fun begins! Myself and my 5 year old boy loved it, and I will most certainly read it to my 2.5 year old girl tonight as well.

I will definitely purchase this one - as the book copy will go down a treat 💗

I found this to be a lovely, original story that I can imagine children of all ages enjoying. It flowed beautifully. The front cover alone is enough to entice anyone to read it.

Chloe gets annoyed with her brother so she draws a witch and wishes she would turn her brother into a frog. When Chloe’s drawing comes to life and the witch whips Jack away in her broomstick, Chloe is horrified and determined to rescue him. She draws all sorts of magic on her journey to save him from the witch.

The rhyming text is lovely, although there are the odd moments when it feels slightly forced. I like the quest through fairytale lands and the witch who isn’t really evil after all. It was great to see a female heroine rescuing an older brother. I wasn’t overly keen on the style of the illustrations, but this wouldn’t put me off recommending this book as a lovely read for EYFS or KS1. I think even lower KS2 teachers could make use of this as a writing prompt.

A great, fun rhyming picture book which tells the story of Chloe and her magic crayon.
Chloe's brother, Jack, loves to play tricks and Chloe draws a witch to get him back, but it soon turns into an adventure.
A really fun story, with lovely illustrations and rhyming verse.

Enchanted by this wonderful picture book!
What rhymes with fairytales? Every page of this magical story is bursting with wondrous characters (who could resist a trampolining wolf?!) & intricate illustrations. Creative, clever & whimsical, this is perfect for brave, loyal little ones with themes of forgiveness, family and imagination. A perfect way to teach key concepts of fairytales and folklore to early years.

Magic, witches, trolls, and big bad wolves, this cute story has features of some of the great fairytales.

When Chloe’s brother is cruel to her she finds a magic crayon and seeks revenge! Told in rhyme, we see that Chloe uses her imagination alongside the magic crayon to get her revenge, but then instantly regrets it! We follow her adventure into fairytale wood with her magic crayon by her side to rescue him and set things right again.

Incredibly fun, magical, and mystical, we learn about bravery, forgiveness, and love.

The illustrations are wonderful and I love that they look like they too have been drawn by a magic crayon!

I enjoyed reading this with my three-year-old son, a new family favourite.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Children’s Publishers for the e-arc to review.

For every children's book, the first point of attraction is the cover and title. This book wins that round by a huge margin. It has one of the cutest covers I've seen this year.

An adorable little girl, cute little creatures, and loads of magic! These aren't just on the cover but in the story too. Written in rhyming verse, the book tells us of the adventures of a little girl named Chloe who discovers that one of her crayons is magical. What follows is a wonderful journey filled with challenges and fun. Children will surely enjoy this book as they get to meet new creatures and learn the values of bravery and love.

The rhymes of the book are such that this would make a wonderful bedtime story. A creative adult who will be able to narrate the story with voice modulation and sound effects will certainly have a very captivated little listener as his/her audience.

The illustrations match the cover in cuteness and serve to enhance the story.

Thank you, NetGalley and Penguin Random House Children’s UK, for the Advanced Review Copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

An enjoyable book indeed, much recommended for early readers.

Thank you to Amy Sparkes, #netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for a fair review.

I really enjoyed this book. There was everything to love about it from the bright, imaginative illustrations, to the well-considered plot told in poetic verse.

Regretting the fate she bestowed on her brother, a young girl armed with her magical crown goes in search of him.

The poem is well balanced and flows at an even pace throughout. The subject matter is relatable to the young audience of 5-9-year-olds it best suits.

I see this book being a family favourite, or frequently read in libraries and playgroups.
