Lisa Harris thrilled us with US Marshals Series book one, The Escape. The Chase, her upcoming sequel, is a fast paced manhunt for four bank robbers who have added murder to their string of crimes. With US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn on their tails, these thrill seeking criminals are on the verge of losing their game, and that makes them scared, scattered, and even more dangerous. But this particular chase can’t be business as usual when it is Madison’s first after 3 months of recovery from being shot in a dramatic encounter with her husband’s murderer. It’s personal for Jonas, too, when the bank robbers take out someone very close to him.

Entwined with the details of this chase are Madison’s years-long pursuit for the truth about her husband’s murder and the tricky business of these more-than-partners feelings that tumble just out of reach for both Madison and Jonas. Harris writes these elements, as well as the heartfelt and heartbreaking details of Madison’s family, with delicate intensity. They are very real and very pertinent elements that drive excellent character development and set the reader up for the next installment of the series, which I certainly can’t wait to read.

Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are my own and are completely genuine.

Unfortunately this book just didn't keep my attention, it felt like just another formulaic Christian suspense book.

All I'm going to say is wow! Another great read from Ms. Harris.
Couldn't put the book down it was so exciting and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
It was great to see Madison and Jonas back again! I knew nothing would keep Madison down! Yay!
I loved the supporting characters as well too. Harris done a great job in rounding them out.
Suspense is slowing becoming a favorite of mine. I love the fast action and I do learn a few things along the too.
I'm looking forward to the next book. I just hate it that they are so far apart 😪
This is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Title: The Chase
Author: Lisa Harris

Ch: 31

Pg: 420

Series: U.S. Marshals # 2

Genre: Christian suspense

Rating: 4 stars

Publisher: Revell

The Chase by Lisa Harris picks up three months after book one The Escape ends and even though this series contains three standalone stories with the same characters with its own suspense thread there is an overall suspense thread that goes through all the books in the series. Book one ended in a cliff hanger even though one part of the story was solved. So it is important that you read these books in order. I enjoyed this one more than I did the first book though I loved both. But this one moved faster, and I think it's due in part to the characters of US Marshal's Madison and Jonas having already been developed and they have settled into their partnership.

When it comes to suspense series this is my favorite kind, the kind in which there's an overall arching suspense arc through all the books in the series connecting them that way. But then each book with the same main characters are not have a suspense thread that is wrapped up by the end of the book. But this series has been neat in the sense that each book has also focuses on different aspects of what the Marshal's do such as this book focuses on serving warrants and fugitives. I'm looking forward to the final book in the series to see how the series arc ends.

The Chase, book two picks up where book one left off. You don’t have to read the first one but it helps. Madison James is returning to work, after being shot in Book one. Re-joining her partner Jonas Quinn. They’re investigating a series of robberies and the fugitives are one step ahead of all law enforcements. When lives are lost and things get personal, especially for Madison, will they be able to catch the criminals before it’s too late? This book is filled with intense action and suspense. The relationship between Madison and Jonas is somewhat complicated to say the least. There is also the unsolved mystery of who killed Madison’s husband five years ago, and why? She cannot get away from the searching and not finding any answers and why is someone trying to kill her and is it all related? I suppose we will get some answers on that in Book three. It is too bad we have to wait so long for the next book in this series. Love Lisa Harris’s novels and they are worth the wait…..Thanks to the author and publisher for the chance to read and review this riveting suspense..

A well-paced and plotted book with an intense race against time to catch bank robbers turned murderers. I definitely recommend reading this series in order because there are story elements started in the first book that aren't concluded there and this book doesn't have as much character growth as the first one did (since we already know who they are and what motivates them). This allows us to dive headfirst into the race to find the bad guys and to already be comfortable with our lead Marshals.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story as well as the very slight and guarded bits of romance the two are beginning to show for each other.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

I had never read anything by this author before but I've been on a Christian Suspense kick lately so was excited to try it out. Let's just say it didn't disappoint. Lisa Harris' storytelling had me sitting on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happened next and had me reading late into the night. Since I haven't read the first book in this series I'm definitely going to back and check it out.

The Chase by Lisa Harris is the second book in the US Marshals series. Madison is back on the job after being shot three months earlier. Her first day back on the job she and her partner, Jonas, are assigned a case of a series of bank robberies.
This is a great story takes off three months after the first ends with the same characters so it is best to read this series in order. The author does a great job of filling in the background so this does make a good stand alone story as well. This is a well written story with wonderful characters. It is filled with lots of action and suspense. I enjoyed the friendship and loyality Madison and Jonas have and the dedication Madison has towards her family.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley, this is my honest review.

The Chase by Lisa Harris
Lisa Harris is a author that I really love, but "The Chase" was a little disappointment. I felt "The Chase" was slow at the beginning, but pick-up some after several chapters. The two main characters Madison and Jonas are very likeable and whom you will come to love. Madison returns to work after she was shot three month's early. She has no idea whom shot her. Jonas was her partner who is a strong American man. The first chapter shows how the team works together through out the book.

I will still recommend this book to family and friends even though it wasn't my favorite of her books.

I was so excited to get a copy of this book, and to be honest, while I wanted to read it right away, I equally wanted to wait so that it wouldn’t be over. This was a highly anticipated book of mine. And it didn’t disappoint! This is book two in the US Marshal series by Lisa Harris and I while I really enjoyed book one, I think this was my favorite of the two. I love read about US Marshal duo Madison and Jonas. In this book, we see them on a chase to find bank robbers, and throughout the chase, so much happens. These books are full of adrenaline pumping action, as well as twists you don’t see coming. I can’t wait to read book three!

The Chase by Lisa Harris is the second novel in the series. US Marshalls Jonas and Madison have developed their friendship since she was shot in the first book. I enjoyed their chemistry and relationship much more in this book.

The book opens with Madison going back to work and they are called to a bank robbery in progress. The story continues as they are chasing the four suspects.

The book is action packed and keeps you on your toes. I appreciate how Madison evaluates the suspects, witnesses and their responses.

I don’t want to ruin any of the surprises but I think you will enjoy some of the twists and turns.

The Chase picks up where The Escape left off. Madison has recovered from being shot and is ready to get back on the job. The first case she and Jonas are up against involves a string of bank robberies. When the robberies turn deadly, the suspects are desperate to make their escape, and Madison and Jonas are on their trail. As the two put themselves in harms way trying to capture the fugitives, Jonas realizes he can no longer keep his feelings hidden. Will Madison and Jonas capture the criminals before they escape to Canada? And will Madison reciprocate Jonas’s feelings?

I read this book in record time. It was exciting and full of action, and I couldn’t put it down. I liked Madison and Jonas in The Escape, and I enjoyed reading more of their story. The pacing of the story is good — it doesn’t drag or move so fast that you lose track of what’s happening. And I appreciate a clean romance. Overall, I thought it was a great read.

I was such a fan of The Escape, I thought it would be hard for this book to live up to it. I was wrong! The danger, suspense, intrigue, and romance only got better. From the beginning, you are pulled into a roller coaster of danger that leaves your heart racing wondering what is going to happen next and you don’t step off until the last page.

US Marshall’s Madison James and Jonas Quinn find themselves once again chasing dangerous fugitives who take them on quite the adventure. During the course of the chase, both Jonas and Madison will be forced to face things from their respective pasts as well as looking to see what the future holds. One of my favorite heroic teams that I have read.

An excellent second book in the series and I can’t wait to read the next one. This book not only entertains you but is so good, it haunts you until you finish it wanting to know what is next.

ADRENALINE RUSH!

This may be author Lisa Harris’ best work yet! From beginning to end, this book is engaging, entertaining, enlightening and encouraging. Her characters are believable, her plot is dynamic and her settings are on point. She combines the perfect blend of suspense and romance.

Even though US Marshal Madison James was shot just three months ago, she is more than ready to get back to work. Some welcome back! Her partner, Jonas Quinn, received a message that a federal warrant just came in on a man connected to a string of bank robberies. Little do the two know that they will find a bank robbery in progress and that it is just the beginning of things going sideways! The robbers have taken multiple hostages. The chaos that ensues as James and Quinn interrupt the bank robbery and manage to work their way inside the bank will have readers on the edge of their seats! Author Lisa Harris adds a new level to the definition of CHASE as these criminals prove to use some of the most elusive techniques as they lead the Agents on the chase of a lifetime from Seattle to the San Juan Islands. Not only are the Agents hunting the criminals; they also find themselves being hunted by the criminals as well. Unfortunately, they have been so focused on this case that they may have let their defenses down to another major threat.

This was the second book in the US Marshals series by Lisa Harris, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this was a continuation of the previous book in the series, rather than being told from an alternate perspective, like many suspense trilogies are apt to do. I was really invested in the storyline from the previous book, and I was really glad that it came back and is being told in this book.

It did take me a couple chapters to get back into the book: I’d forgotten some of the details surrounding the last book, but all the details were well presented and I started remembering what each of the plot points were as I continued on in the book.

Like in other Lisa Harris books I’ve read, I am a little skeptical of some of the details regarding how this case was solved and the legality of some of the players within this book. For instance, the events of most of this book happen on Madison’s first day back at work after being shot, and I have a really hard time thinking that she would be allowed to go investigate a bank robbery on the first day back, you know? I was a little skeptical about the fact that the intern (presumably a college student?) was allowed to touch a lot of the evidence and sift through data and stuff: the legality of things like that seems suspect at best. The fact that Jonas’ ex just , , , happened to be at one of the crime scenes so that they could wrap up loose ends?? was SO strange and out of place?? Some suspension of disbelief has to happen to enjoy this book for sure.

I really did enjoy reading the secondary (overarching) narrative that has threaded through both books from this series: the mystery of who killed Madison’s husband Luke is honestly more intriguing than the main suspense story line, and I was excited to see it pick up again in this book.

The ending felt really rushed: the action was fast paced up until around the 85% mark of the book, and then it . . . just all got resolved neatly? Which didn’t really seem like it would fit with how the rest of the book had gone. The pacing was a little off: there were some scenes that took several pages but was only a few minutes, but then a few scenes that were time-wise really long but described in a few sentences. There’s probably a more technical term for it, but all I know is that the timing was a little difficult to follow in places.

The romance thread was stronger in this one, which was honestly to be expected. I wasn’t a huge fan of how it progressed, but I did expect it to be stronger, due to the overlying story arc of the series.

Overall, I did enjoy this book, although I found it unmemorable and pretty standard to any other Christian suspense fiction book. The story kept me reading, and with a bit of suspension of disbelief, it is a good read for a quiet afternoon.

The Chase by Lisa Harris

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Story Notes

Lisa Harris takes us back to Seattle to plunge us into the lives of two US Marshals set on solving a set of bank robberies that leave no leads in their wake.

Madison James is ready to get back to work. She has fully recovered from the shooting 3 months ago and refuses to ride the desk for a second longer. Her partner Jonas Quinn is a bit worried about her given she can't remember who shot her but gives her a chance to prove she's ready. The case they've got is one with little to go on and lots of money involved. A string of bank robberies have happened in recent weeks and it's clear that those committing them are well prepared.....until the worst happens and a person is killed. Madison and Jonas are now in a fast-paced race against time to catch these clever crooks who will do anything to keep from being caught. And while they stay one step ahead of these determined Marshals for the moment, the window of escape is getting smaller with every new clue they uncover. But a new tragedy throws things into another spin, causing Jonas and Madison to question motives and their own abilities in the face of all this pain. Can they really catch these criminals or will everything end in more death? If they could just get ahead of the plans for once, they might just end up saving more lives than just their own.
I loved this suspense story. It had just enough twists to keep me reading from beginning to end. I actually read this in one afternoon because I was unwilling to put it down. I loved the procedures that were described and that the case was really complicated rather than easily solved. That made it more realistic and engaging to read. Plus there is the theme of Madison's husband's murder that is still unsolved but she is getting closer with each book. I'll definitely be interested to see how that part of the story is solved in the next books. I'm also enjoying the quiet romance that's developing between Madison and Jonas. It's well written and nicely woven into the story so it doesn't overtake the mystery. I'll certainly be recommending it to others and adding it to my purchasing list soon. Looking forward to the next book!

The Chase by Lisa Harris is the second book in her US Marshals series. The cool thing about this series is that it is not three separate romances, but one slowly unfolding romance between the same two people. Madison James and Jonas Quinn.

In The Chase, Madison and Jonas are on the trail of a group of bank robbers. When the robbers kill someone close to Jonas, the situation becomes personal. Very personal. The relationship between the two marshals is getting personal, too. But whether either is willing to risk their friendship and partnership to face those feelings is another thing entirely. Catching the bad guys must come first.

I enjoyed not only enjoyed this romantic suspense story, but loved the slow-growing romance, which has me highly anticipating book three and the conclusion to the Madison’s and Jonas’s relationship.

I have read a lot of novels by Lisa Harris, but The Chase, in my opinion, is probably her best so far. Now this is the second book in her "U.S. Marshals" series, the first book being The Escape (unfortunately I haven't had a chance to pick up a copy yet). While they can be read as standalones I believe it would be best to read them in order as this is a series that contains a continuation thread.
I love great characters and Ms. Harris did not disappoint me with her two lead characters, U.S. Marshal Madison James and U.S. Marshal Jonas Quinn. Both characters bring the pages of this book to life and pull the reader into their world.

The plot to me was fast paced and kept me guessing and pulling for the success of the characters. The main story concerned a series of bank robberies and Madison and Jonas were given the identity of someone that could have been involved. This took them on a chase from Seattle to the San Juan Islands keeping the reader sitting on the edge of the seat waiting for the climax to the hunt.

The second storyline involves the death of Madison's husband (which occurred in the first book). In this book, it is revealed that Madison has a mental block on who actually killed her husband. There are some hints at the end of this book but unfortunately the reader will not learn the resolve until book three, The Catch. I can hardly wait for this third installment to be released.

If you are a fan of Lisa Harris and like fast paced action suspense novels that are clean and have a faith thread you must pick up a copy of The Chase. I promise you will not be disappointed.

On a 5-star scale = 5 HUGE Stars! I loved this book!

The Chase is book number two in Lisa Harris' US Marshals series. While I would say that this could be read as a standalone, I think you would definitely get the most out of the story by reading the first book first. The primary storyline--- the string of bank robberies and the consequent chase that takes up much of the story--- is unique to this story with no background required to understand. There is however another background story involving Madison's husband's murder and her own shooting that we learned about in the previous book and seems as though it will carry on throughout the rest of the series as well. The same can be said about the romance in the story as well. While I think enough background is given that you can still enjoy the story on it's own, it's definitely going to allow you to fully appreciate the big picture.

With a title like The Chase you can expect that this is a book filled with loads of action that will keep you at the edge of your seat. I always find that Lisa Harris does a great job of drawing me into the story, and thi was certainly no exception... there were lots of twists and surprises to keep me guessing... and just enough unanswered questions to have me (impatiently) waiting for the next book in the series to find out what happens next!

If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is certainly one worth checking out.

A high speed chase is underway as Madison and Jonas pursue bank robbers who live like they have nothing to loose.

Madison having just recovering from a gunshot wound hits the ground running as she and her partner Jonas pursue the culprits behind a string of bank robberies in Seattle. This is a fast moving read with a lot going on, and even though it follows the same characters from the previous book, I don't think that readers who pick up just this book would find themselves lost.

Madison and Jonas are a great team, sharing their faith and difficult pasts I like how their friendship has grown and they can count on each other when it all goes down. I liked how it continues to follow some of the story threads from the first book, leaving some questions unanswered for the next book-- which I will definitely be reading.

Overall this is a dynamic read with excellent characters, a fantastic slow burn romance, and a fast paced, action packed, high stakes chase that occurs over a handful of days. I didn't want to put it down, and I think that I even liked it a little better than the first book, which was fantastic! Highly recommend this excellent read by one of my go to favorite authors!
