Too draggy and convoluted. Was a pain to slog through, and there seemed to be bad treatment of children and women just for shock factor and not really to advance the plot in any way. The writing itself also felt strange and choppy, with weird turns of phrases and trying too hard to make the POV sound like a child's, in certain places.

This is a. Amazing thriller. I was gripped from the start and binge-read this book over a couple of days. The twist hit me from nowhere and I didn’t predict the ending, which is the best!

Such a great story with strong characters and a page turner of a plot.

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Unfortunately this one really didn't work for me. The writing was propulsive, which kept me turning the pages, but I found the plot really contrived and ridiculous, with a perpetrator that didn't make any sense.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Another great book from Mary Kubica. I’ve read other books by this author this one was just as good as those. I really enjoyed the story and the characters were well thought out.

A great thriller, with drama, intrigue and an unpredictable twist! I thought this was very well written and the use of the different time periods added to the drama of the plot

I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller. A missing child, a dead local woman and the mystery surrounding the events!

Flipping between current day and 11 years prior we follow a small community affected by the events of one night and how they continue to be affected when secrets can no longer be kept!

Delilah can't remember the last time she saw sunlight. She can't remember the last time she felt fresh air on her face. All she knows is year after year of darkness and deprivation. She always wonders if her Dad will find her one day.

What makes it so great? Well the title may suggest a straightforward story but it is anything but. A sole woman jogger out at night, is she the one who disappears, a girl kept captive in a dank cellar, is it her? Or a well respected woman and her child are not at home when the husband returns is it one of them? Mary Kubica constructs a tangled web of secrets and intrigue that I was completely wrapped up in. Between the three of us buddy readers we usually can solve at least part of a puzzle the author lays out for this but this had us stumped. As soon as I began this book I predicted a five star read and I was gladly proved right in that respect, however any theories I had about how the story would unravel were miles off. Kubica provides us with three different time lines and multiple points of view and I hung on every word, desperate for any scrap of a clue but I missed them all! Local Woman Missing was a master class in suspenseful plotting and never mind top reads of the year it is now firmly on my all time favourites list!

Local woman missing - Mary kubica

Expired before I got chance to finish. Such a shame as I was enjoying this one. Maybe reread another time

This was my first Mary Kubica but will definitely not be my last.
The book is written in multiple POV and dual time zones. In a small community a mother and her six year old daughter disappear and then eleven years later the daughter reappears. The reappearance leads to secrets being revealed.
The story told in the past and present so you begin to understand what may have happened to the missing Mother.
Great story.
Thanks to HQ and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed Mary Kubica’s first book, The Good Girl, and have read her ever since. Local Woman Missing was a taut, twisty thriller that kept me turning the pages!

Mary Kubica has done it again! Her writing is outstanding bringing us a gripping thriller about a mother and 6 year old daughter that go missing only for the daughter to reappear eleven years later without the mom. Is the daughter telling the truth about what happened? Why would she lie? The story is filled with twists and plenty of suspense. Highly recommended!! Be sure to check out Local Woman Missing today!

A good thriller. Set 11 years ago when a mother and daughter go missing and then today when the daughter shows up. what seems like closure to the mystery only opens more questions. A really good twist to the tale for a strong ending.

I loved the previous books by this author so I was excited about this one. I liked it but I didn't love it. I loved the premise and it was engaging and interesting, however, I found it a little difficult to keep up with. I think it was because there are several timelines and they don't go in any order so I kept finding myself confused. It kept me reading though and the atmosphere was incredible - so chilling and scary and you could feel the fear from the characters. The writing, as usual, was amazing. The author has a fantastic way of sucking you into the story and refusing to let go. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for a chance to read and review this book.

I have read a few of Mary Kubica’s previous books and I was very excited to read this. I was not disappointed, this dark and intense tale is everything you could want in a psychological thriller. Overall a great story.

I loved The Good Girl but found this less gripping - perhaps I was at the end of a phase of 'twisty thrillers' and found myself spending more time trying to Guess The Twist than I did just immersing myself in the story? Either way, Kubica continues to write with a strong cast of characters and a propulsive narrative beart - I just felt as though the withholding was often just for the sake of the twist.

I enjoyed this dark, twisty book from Kubica. It is very gripping and has many unexpected twists that make the experience entertaining.
Definitely recommend it for thriller lovers.
