The Poetry Murder Case is a controversial court case in which it has to be decided whether the victim was murdered or suffered an accident. The man in question is Ahmet, who becomes insanely jealous at the thought that his wife might be in love with his right-hand man, Kemal. There is no evidence for this, but when Kemal, who is a poet, is invited to read his poems aloud, Nebahat seems to be entranced by them, leading Ahmat into further disarray. It’s a quirky and whimsical concept, and the reader has to decide whether the case does actually constitute murder by poetry. The mix of narrative and poems would have worked better if the poems had been any good, but I found them banal in the extreme. I can’t work out whether the Turkish author wrote in English or not – there is no mention of a translator. If that’s the case his mistakes can be forgiven, but it’s a pity the book wasn’t edited with more care. All in all I found it a very slight volume, one that didn’t really engage me, about characters I couldn’t really believe in. Not a bad book, but not one for me.

Is Love A Madness? by Bedrettin Simsek

The story follows a poetry murder case that may or may not have been a murder. The madness involved is jealousy and ponders the question of if it is deeper to love someone and not understand them, or to understand someone but not to love them.

The poems in the book were quaint. If you have an appreciation for poetry, I think you will enjoy the story that is wrapped around the poems. If you love fleshed out characters and a compelling plot, you may find the book somewhat lacking.

The story is short and whimsical, if you are looking for a quick read that also feels artistic and deep, I would recommend Is Love A Madness.

"Sometimes we don't know how much we love someone until we hurt them. We hurt the people closest to us. Then, looking at the depths of the wounds we inflicted ourselves, we realize how much we were loved."

Is Love A Madness? by Bedrettin Simsek is a beautiful book about jealous husbands, and romantic poems combine with this novel.

The story is about "The poetry murder case", a story about love which can be both good and bad. People think the poems led to the disaster, worked as a weapon. Poems held in court as evidence of a crime of murder.
Ahmet was a successful businessman, all his dream had come true, and he had a beautiful wife, Nebahat, who loved. He assigned Kamal as the manager of his company, the young man who God send him down to this world in an ugly body.
Kamal was a poet, and his poems could touch souls. One night Kamal read his poems for Ahmet and Nebahat for the first time. Ahmet noticed his wife's fondness for Kamal's poem, and he got obsessed with this idea that maybe she has fallen in love with Kamal. His jealousy grew like a disease, made him a madman.
A dead, A question, this happened by accident?

I love this book, especially the poems. Making the poem as part of the novel was fascinating. Thoughts of jealous husband beautifully described. An easy and short read. Highly Recommended!

"Then don't blame me for lying, for walking around with a mask on my face
If I lie, that's so you can understand me better
nd if I stand before you with a mask
That's because it makes me look beautiful before you ..."

Summary - This book is a mixture of love poems and a story of how the poems lead to the death of one of the main characters. Was it murder or an accident? This is the question that is asked throughout the book. The book tells the story of 'The Poetry Murder Case' The death of Ahmet Kurt during a poetry reading by Kemal to Ahmet's wife Nebahat. Ahmet was convinced Kemal and Nebahat had fallen in love through Kemal's poetry and had taken to spying on the pair trying to catch them out, He even devised a plan to make Kemal confess his love for Nebahat even after Kemal had said he didn't love her so that Ahmet could judge her reaction. This is what lead to his death, but was it murder, or was it an accident?

What I liked about this book - The poems in this book have such vivid imagery, the poems themselves are beautiful. There are also some wonderful quotes in this book that I couldn't help but highlight such as ' A poet is only in love, with the women he creates in his imagination' 'As long as someone loves you, you're always beautiful' and 'To fall in love, one must find himself beautiful first' I think these quotes give beautiful and important messages to the reader.

I enjoyed the poems and I enjoyed the story which ran alongside it, The only reason I haven't given this book 5* is because I'm not 100% sure the two work well together, I think a book of these beautiful poems and a separate book that tells the story of a jealous husband convinced his wife has fallen in love with another man, leading to his death and police trying to work out if it is murder or if it was an accident would have been much better,

Would I Recommend - Yes

Would I Read Again/Continue The Series - Yes

Rating - 4*
