Meynell presents here a relatively short and engaging book which seeks to do nothing more than explain what the bible says about Jesus and his death on the cross. He makes the convincing argument that it as the centre of scripture and ought to be treated as fundamental to every aspect of Christian life and religion. In his own words, he describes it as a lighter version of weightier tomes such as John Stott's (to be fair, still very accessible) 'The Cross of Christ'. I would recommend this to anybody who is just beginning to explore the claims of Jesus and scripture but remains unsure, to the established believer who wishes to share their cross-centred faith and strengthen their own walk.

This updated version includes more contemporary references and, most significantly, an additional chapter which explores the impact our understanding of the cross should have on our ideas and expectations of leadership. It pairs well with the already-existing segment on a cross-shaped light and offers more opportunity to apply and chew over the implications of everything that he has been arguing.

It's a fun book in many ways, but prepare to be confronted!

Good resource for engaging modern culture in defence of the Christian faith. Well written, not too long and engaging to read. Good addition to the library of anyone interested in learning about and meeting objections and obstacles to Christian faith.
