*sigh* 🙄 I want to like these books I really do but it’s just not clicking. This is the third book in the series and really we are not much further on than we were at the beginning. I thought the way the second book ended that we’d get a full family reunion thing going but we just got a rehash of the plot from the second book which is Teagan vs Natural disaster. I mean there’s even another super powered kid as the plot catalyst but it’s different this time because we like this kid even though he has killed people (!).
I still do not like Teagan, it’s not even dislike I just don’t care about her, she’s annoying. Even she knows she’s annoying. I still don’t care about her dreams to become America’s next top chef. Annie’s frustration with her is the only part of the book that makes sense. I mean she basically becomes meth addict after one toke ?! Urgh! Also Africa gets a job and a personality transplant it seems. And they tramp miles and miles across LA in the rain with. A. Four. Year. Old. Who doesn’t complain or need carried or food or water or sleep at any point. There’s stretching reality and then there’s just pure fantasy. Yeesh.

Teagan Frost is back with Book 3 of The Frost Files and things just keeping getting more and more complicated for her.

After the events of Book 2 things were never really going to be the same again, but her job has somehow become even more stressful with one work pal taking pot shots at her all day long while another has started taking the job even more seriously leading to some tension, to say the least.

Teagan has slowly been getting more powerful over the course of the books, and with that power she has become even more…. Teagan… she has made certain deals that stop her from living her best life (in order to live at all) and her anger at not being able to do what she wants spills through, which explains a lot of her decision making here.

The book opens as the other books have, Teagan and co (China Shop) are in the middle of a job where Teagan can absolutely not show her powers. Of course, as with the start of the other books, things quickly go wrong and we are quickly thrown into the action. People are thrown from buildings, there are car chases, and lots of random ***** being thrown through the air.

In book 2 Teagan’s biggest threat was a child with powers, and this time she is faced with the same, although the child is completely different. The child in question can manipulate electricity. While the previous book was about a child who WANTED to see the world burn, our new child doesn’t want anything to do with it. In this story, rather than trying to hunt the child down, Teagan decides to protect them – very much against the wishes of her co workers.

Obviously, Teagan is not the only one who has an interest in the location of this child, and that is where the bulk of the story comes from. Teagan and child vs the world – but who can come out on top.

It’s a fantastic story that is, as usual, filled with the standard Jackson Ford humour, action, and utterly heart wrenching moments. I love this series, and I can’t wait for it to continue.

Couldn’t get into it and got bored very quickly. Also the book expired before I could give it another go.

Please note, Eye of the Sh*t Storm is the third book in The Frost Files series. If you haven’t read books one and two what follows may contain some minor spoilers. Consider yourselves duly warned. Don’t come running to me later saying I didn’t mention it!

Teagan Frost might be getting better at moving sh*t with her mind – but her job working as a telekinetic government operative only ever seems to get harder. That’s not even talking about her car-crash of a love life . . .

And things are about to get even tougher. No sooner has Teagan chased off one psychotic kid hell-bent on trashing the whole West Coast, but now she has to contend with another supernatural being who can harness devastating electrical power. And if Teagan can’t stop him, the whole of Los Angeles will be facing the sh*tstorm of the century…

When we first meet Teagan Frost, way back in The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind, I recall she made quite the entrance. Jumping/falling from the top of a skyscraper without the aid of a parachute, never mind a safety net. Her latest adventure, Eye of the Sh*t Storm, begins with similar levels of excitement. We immediately find our plucky psychokinetic heroine in the midst of a Terminator 2-esque chase through the storm drains of Los Angles. A local biker gang is not best pleased with young Teagan and her plans for their large stash of narcotics. I’ll say this for Teagan, she has mad skills when it comes to finding herself knee-deep in trouble.

Teagan remains a bit of a mess throughout. Her power continues to grow, but this seems to be matched by her ability to make poor decisions in the heat of the moment. Don’t get me wrong, Teagan always has the best of intentions. The problem is that things don’t often turn out the way she planned. I love how Teagan has grown more and more sure of herself as a super-powered human while still retaining the vulnerability and uncertainty in every other aspect of her life. It would be so easy for her to become overconfident, but the reverse has happened. It’s almost as if the extra burden of her secret is chipping away at her already fragile mental state.

Over the course of the last three novels, the staff at China Shop have evolved to become a weird little dysfunctional family for Teagan. Reggie, Annie and Africa are the replacements for the siblings she lost as a youngster. The dynamic between Teagen and Annie is particularly well observed. There is a whole love/hate thing going on that only ever happens between those who have a genuinely close bond.

It’s not all about the characters though, Jackson Ford has a keen eye for action. Eye of the Sh*t Storm sure doesn’t drag its heels. Chases, fights, explosions, floods, lightning strikes, crystal-meth induced hallucinations and everything in between. You may find yourself having to try and catch your breath. There is a genuine cinematic quality to the writing that I enjoyed. There are set pieces that are so well defined and executed they are easy to visualise. I seem to recall reading something about the possibility of a television show based on the books. I hope this series does makes the jump to the screen at some point. There is a boundless sense of potential in Teagan’s universe. I’m sure it would be awesome.

The novel ends with a WTF revelatory moment. Any author who manages to make me exclaim “What!!!” when I get to the final page of a book deserves extra credit for their hard work. Teagan Frost had better return and it had better be soon. There are some burning questions that really need answering.

This novel, and by extension the series so far, has been great fun. Jackson Ford is clearly having a ball and his enthusiasm for the characters and plot continues to remain infectious. I find myself awaiting each new instalment with barely contained excitement. If you haven’t checked this out already, I strongly advise that you do so.

Eye of the Sh*t Storm is published by Orbit and is available now.

Normally at this point in a review, I’d recommend some sounds to accompany the book in question. It’s usually something instrumental and often a soundtrack to a movie or game. I’ve gone a different direction this time. The album I’ve selected is something that I think Teagan herself would like. She is all about rap music so I’ve chosen the 2004 album Weapons of Mass Destruction by Xzibit*1.

*1 I should stress my knowledge of the rap genre is woefully limited. It’s just he gets mentioned in the book so I thought choosing a random album from his back catalogue was a good place to start. The title seemed suitably appropriate as well. If Teagan and her fellow enhanced humans aren’t weapons of mass destruction, I don’t know who is.

Buckle up folks. Teagan Frost is back. Following on from The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind (hi, Teagan) and Random Sh*t Flying Through The Air (err, hi again Teagan), we find our psychokinetic heroine up to yet more shenanigans. But that pesky Jackson Ford has cranked the dial all that way up to eleven on the action, peril and snarky internal monologue scales, probably cackling to himself at the same time. Oh, wait. He did that with book 2. Somehow he found the boss-mode setting on those dials.

And I love it.

Teagan and the gang from China Shop are on a white-knuckle ride from page one. This time there’s a new kid on the block, and he’s got a certain set of skills that are literally electric.

The sh*t hits the fan (of course) and the gang find themselves separated and pursuing their own goals. It’s a great chance to see the characters running solo for a while, and gives us a real insight into the team dynamics, and Teagans… complex relationships with them all.

Then there’s that finale – I’m saying nothing, but seriously Jackson? When do we get book four?

Highly recommended, as per usual

Cracking stuff. Rip-roaring pace, but with characters that are slightly broken, and have some depth, rather than the cardboard cut-outs you find in a lot of thrillers.
Genuinely loved this book.

Very 'David Wong'! I love this style of writing, its works really well with this genre.

I found it was such a captivating storyline, really kept me on my toes!

Teagan Frost is such a relatable character, some of the others I don't care for.

4/5 the only thing that could have gone better was if the other went a bit darker/deeper with this being adult fiction, not YA.

Eagerly anticipating what Jackson does next!

The latest instalment of the chaotic hot mess that is Teagan Frost's life. I can't say too much about this particular book without spoiling the other books in the series but trust me when I say, this book is action packed! It grabs you right from the start and takes you on one insane rollercoaster ride. It's great to see these fab characters back in action and the development of Teagan's powers is done perfectly. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book of 'what the hell' to be published!

Another exciting instalment of the Frost Files. Just as fast paced and funny as it’s predecessors, this book is action packed from the very first page! Perfect.
I would recommend reading the other books in the series to get more of a backstory to the characters and their circumstances but I really do recommended this clever and chaotic read

'So it turns out, you can totally fall asleep while escaping from a gunfight on the back of a really loud motorcycle.'

I was watching the Oscars last night, broadcast from Union Station, Los Angeles. But I didn't see the glitz and glamour, oh no. I saw an exhausted Teagan Frost and her gang breaking into the empty station on night to escape from an increasingly dystopian, post The Big One LA.

That really is in the book, so if you want to orient yourself, go and look at the coverage. You'll have to imagine, though, that the scene is somewhat more desperate that you can see on TV... in this one, Teagan is definitely running on empty. A few months after the events of Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air, China Shop, the removal firm that's really a secret agency, is falling apart after the loss of a key member of the team. Teagan, whose psychokinetic ability is at the centre of the team (she really is The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind, appears on the brink of losing her other, found family (her birth family, who made her what she is, having died years before).

It is, I'd say, a doomier book than the previous parts of the Frost Files. LA was devastated in the earthquake that China Shop couldn't prevent (although it might have been much, much worse). What's left is a ruined landscape full of shuttered businesses, destroyed homes and homeless people trying to hold their lives together. The team seek refuge in Union Station because it's shut. Transport across the city is difficult with bridges down and roads blocked, and many of Teagan's favourite restaurants are no more. As the gang, falling apart into different factions, set out on a nightmarish journey to reunite a young boy with his father, there's a real feeling of things falling apart.

It's not only exhaustion, hunger and hostile forces that bring the darkness. The events off the first two books have left scars, and Teagan - who is, remember, very young - is clearly struggling. With guilt, afraid that she - or what she is - caused much of the harm, and that she may do more. With relationships, having drifted away from her boyfriend Nic (though he pops up again here to give her an excoriating lecture on racial assumptions and privilege - Teagan's put her foot in it again: "I still tried to tell a black American about how the law wouldn't protect me.") And with the dark legacy of how her powers arose, and who else may share them.

The book is, basically, a single desperate chase, running from one danger into another with very little time to consider the bigger picture or work out what may be happening. There's a little reflection on that from Reggie, Teagan's quadriplegic handler (and we learn more about Reggie's past too) and also from Moira Tanner, their distant and scary boss in Washington DC, but these don't interrupt the flow much, it's action, action, action for Teagan and the stakes are scarily high.

If you have read either of the previous books in this series you'll know more or less what to expect, but there is a sense here that Ford has now really got into top gear, and the pages of this book simply fly by. I really, really can't imagine what's going to happen in Book 4 - because, no, The Frost Files isn't a trilogy and with Teagan getting in touch with her roots (as well as picking up a couple of new and lamentable habits along the way) there is a strong sense by the end of this book that ANYTHING could happen next.

A strong recommendation from me for this one, and if you haven't caught up with the series yet, DO IT NOW.

So here's the thing....
I hadn't read the other Frost Files and thought 'Oh no, I'll be so lost!' Aha, alas I was, to put it quite simply, engrossed!!

Full of action, ridiculously funny and a plenthora of chaos... what's not to like?!

Teagan might be a hot mess, but she's one bad ass chick!

Will definitely be reading more from Ford, he makes characters come to life in such an intriguing and captivating way.

Teagan and the China Shop team return for their third adventure and this time the threats feel more personal.

When the China Shop's current mission takes an unexpected turn, the team improvises and Teagan is exposed to a bag full of meth. This increases her powers exponentially, but the comedown is much, much worse.

Whilst still trying to recover, Tanner sends the team to investigate strange occurrences at a self-storage unit. Teagan discovers a young boy who has control over electricity and she decides not to turn him over to Tanner, but to find the boy's father.

Jackson Ford again presented the reader with another high octane ride, with the customary banter and sass, threats and last minute rescues.

My thanks to NetGalley and Orbit for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A truly brilliant continuation to this kicka** series! I didn't think that I could love Teagan anymore but this book was just 'chef's kiss. Teagan takes us on another adventure that starts with a literal bang, stealing cocaine from bikers of course! Will this be the book that finally puts Teagan on the right path, both at work and in her love life? Probably not but isn't that what makes this a refreshing series! Sometimes life isn't clean and happy, it's messy and complicated. Dive into the chaos and enjoy!

I recommend reading this as part of the series - however you can read it as a stand-alone if you so desire.

If you thought the kid from the last book was psychotic wait until you meet the new one!

This book was the definition of chaos in a good way. I loved it so much. It was full of action. Actually, the action started on the first page and it kept going until the last. I started this series because of the titles and this series became one of my favorite series. I love every character in this book. Especially reading Annie and Teagen's dynamic was amazing. I thought this book was the last one but after that cliffhanger, I can't wait to read the next one. And one more thing, Jackson Ford's writing style was so good. It was smart, sarcastic and so much fun to read. I even laughed while reading the acknowledgments too. Everyone should give this series a chance.

Series: The Frost Files #3

Genre: Fiction | Science Fiction

Release Date: 27th April 2021

Teagan has got a lot of sh*t going on right now. Her life is a hot mess, her love life is a wreck and her job is complicated at best. As a telekinetic government agent, she finds herself in escalating danger and drama wherever she goes - and it's getting worse. A mysterious supernatural with complete control over electricity is rising up from the underbelly of LA and if Teagan doesn't do something now - they're all done for.

Jackson is the King of absurdity in the absolute best way - every single page is full-throttle, explosive energy from start to finish and packs a punch from the very first page. A sharp, fresh take on a classic detective story in it's own totally unique world. Full of hilarious twists that admittedly I almost saw coming; and with the occasional feel-good moment hiding in the sh*tstorm.

If you haven't read the other Frost Files, I'd definitely reccommend reading them - firstly because it'll help you come into this story with a much clearer understanding of the universe of the book and secondly because they're simply f*cking cool. That being said, you could read this as a stand-alone because this story is easily strong enough to stand on it's own but once you're engrossed in the world you definitely get that extra sparkle.

Wickedly smart, absurdly funny and an excellent addition to the legend of the Frost Files.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to NetGalley & Jackson Ford for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Thank you for allowing me early access to this book - NetGalley and the Publishers.

Full disclosure I did not realise this was part of a series so had not read the other books.

I enjoyed this fun story about a detective with the ability to move things with their mind. The writing style was super accessible.

The story - ⭐⭐
The writing - ⭐⭐⭐
Overall - ⭐⭐⭐

Considering I'd not read the first two books in this series I didn't feel like I was in a position where I didn't understand anything that was happening. This can easily be read as a standalone, Ford ensures that you get enough backstory explained throughout that references and throwbacks make enough sense to keep the plot trucking along.

That being said I struggled to enjoy it, I feel that this is perhaps because I've not read the previous books in the series and as such was less invested in the characters and less bothered about their dynamic. I also saw that finale plot twist coming a mile off, and the reveal about Leo's father, so I just came out feeling a bit flat.

It's well written and an easy read, I imagine if you'd have read the previous books in the series it would have had some good character development, I do feel like I'll have to head back and read them at some point.

Fave quote - 'Do I feel bad about hitting so many people in the head? Leaving a trail of concussions and possible brain injuries? Sure. But they started it. And besides, no one gives Batman shit when he beats up a warehouse full of the Joker’s goons.'

Fave moment - Teagan meeting Pop for the first time

Having loved the first two books, I couldn't wait to continue the story of Teagan and see what happened next, and I wasn't disappointed!

The story is fast paced and exciting, I love the wit of the main character and found myself laughing out loud a few times. I finished this book in one evening because I couldn't put it down, loved it!.
