A great book where a woman wakes up without knowing how she ended up in the hospital and has no idea of her past, present or her future. After breaking out of the hotel, she finds the perfect job on a secluded property and slowly gets memories that help her realize what happened to her and what she wants her future to look like.

I loved the way the author inserted her memories into the story, so the reader gets to know about what brought this women to her present life and the clues were perfectly sprinkled throughout the book. The pacing was perfection, which kept me on the edge of my seat and flipping from page to page or chapter to chapter as this book had 60 chapters in it!

I am always excited to look up an author after I finish a book and find out there is a backlist and I want to jump into Kelly Heard's backlist to see how they line up with this one.

While I did enjoy the book from beginning to end, I am not sure if the title works for me - a minor complaint, but I would have come up with something a little different. This didn't impact my reading, just an after thought when I finished.

Unputdownable! A good mystery about a girl that wakes up in a hospital and cannot recall her own name, let alone what happened to her. It is clear that a violent crime occurred, and we follow her as she starts to slowly remember, and piece together what happened. On the page we also encounter a hunted mansion and I loveddd the eerie vibes. It was a quick read and, the "twist" was easily identified (which I did not mind). There are some heavy topics in this mystery.

I can say only one word--WOW!!! This book gripped me so hard that I simply couldn't put the book down!! What will happen if you wake up all of a sudden and have no clue of who you really are and how you ended up in the hospital? Or the fact that you may be an innocent victim of a crime or maybe guilty of a crime you committed?

A woman wakes up in the hospital with no memory of how she ended up in the hospital. All she thinks is that her name is Sophie. After being discharged from the hospital, Sophie then finds a job in an abandoned house with Nathaniel as a caretaker. All Sophie remembered is that she had a brother named Miles who looked after her and she was determined to find out what happened to the brother. Meanwhile, the Detective Selena who is investigating her case is suspicious about her and turns out that she was Nathaniel's ex.

As I have mentioned earlier, this book is an unputdownable filled with action packed twists and turns and I simply couldn't wait to find what is going to happen in the end! Is the narrator's name really Sophie or is it something else? Or is she running away from a crime or simply a victim of a crime? I was so curious to find out that I simple couldn't put the book down and wait till the end! The ending left me breathless and I felt like I was watching a movie that I couldn't stop to watch! So good and unputdownable that will take your breath away!!

A fast paced thriller filled with twists and turns that will keep you hooked into the story and keep you up all night--worth five stars!

Imagine waking in the hospital, battered and stitched back together, with no memory of who you are or how you got there. That's how this new thriller begins. The hospital staff decides to call the young woman Sophie instead of Jane Doe because of a pendant found in her pocket. When it's time for her to be transferred to a memory-care center, Sophie sneaks out instead and eventually finds a job working on the restoration of the gardens of a remote 'haunted' mansion. Her memories are coming back slowly but by the time she remembers what happened, will it be too late for her?

This story is so atmospheric and suspenseful, set in the hills of South Carolina. Who doesn't love a haunted mansion? The characters seem to be quite real with all their emotional damage, although many of 'Sophie's' decisions are head-scratchers.

I received an arc of this suspense novel from the publisher via netGalley in exchange for an honest review. I will look forward to reading more from this author.

Ooh, this was a fabulous mystery! My first thought was, how terrifying to wake up in hospital, unaware of how you got there and not knowing your own name. Sophie’s confusion was so well written, I felt as though I was taking this journey of exploration with her. There was the threat of whatever violence she’d been subjected to coming back for another go. That kept me whizzing through the book.

I loved the settings. Dovemore was so atmospheric it gave me a shiver as Sophie was experiencing it. History oozed from its foundations and I lapped up the story of Zenaida which ran through the book. The same dwelling had at first felt like a safe haven but this soon took a more sinister turn. I never knew what to expect from it which kept me guessing. The town of Hazel Bluff felt like the perfect backdrop for the novel too.

Nathaniel and Lincoln’s characters brought a lot to the story and as the Sophie got to know them, I began to feel like there was even more at stake for her as tensions rose. As the mystery began to unravel, the stakes upped and I had to know how things would end for Sophie. The ending was full on nail biting.

If you love a solid mystery with a great big helping of threat, then The Silent Girl is a fab read for you! I couldn’t put it down.

I found The Silent Girl a little difficult to get into but once I did it was fantastic, I really enjoyed it. Once it had my attention I found it a thrilling mystery that I could not put down.
I will definitely be looking for more books by Kelly Heard in the future.

I would like to thank Bookouture for giving me an advance copy of this book.
Thought this book was okay. Not a huge mystery, figured it out part way through, and the characters didn't seem to fit, except for Lincoln. Guess I had to many questions about the story line. I've been looking for new authors and will read Kelly's next book, just felt this book fell short. Read this book yourself and give Kelly a chance.

It took me quite a few chapters to really get into this book, I felt like it was dragging. However once I started getting into it, I really enjoyed it! It has a very creepy vibe and some mysteries to solve. Give it a try and I think you’ll enjoy it too if you enjoy thrillers and mysteries.

A young woman found on the side of a road with a head injury, knife wound and various scratches, wakes up in hospital unable to remember who is is or what happened to her. She can remember her brother's first name and that she wants nothing more than to find him. While the police search try to piece together who she is, she decides to call herself Sophie and takes a job helping to restore the grounds of an old mansion with a tragic past. The man in charge of the restoration, Nathaniel, divorced with a young son, is reserved at first but as Sophie comes to trust him and opens up a bit more, they start to form a relationship.

Sophie feels safe living in a cottage at the isolated mansion with Nathaniel nearby and flashes of her childhood memories and her beloved brother start to return slowly. The mansion and its tragic past have an almost gothic feel and a sense of foreboding hangs over Sophie as the suspense builds slowly to the climatic ending that forces her to remember who she is and the horrific truth of what happened to her. Overall, an enjoyable suspense with an unexpected ending and a bit of romance.

Okay, on the fence about this one. It started off slow and dragged in place. However over all the writing was strong and it was well written. Too much action was forced at once in the end and it made seem so rushed and unenjoyable. I just had a hard time warming up to the characters and pacing.

Everyones worst nightmare, waking up and not remembering who you are. This book well and truly had me gripped and on the edge of my seat reading it, I really struggled to put it down. I found Kellys writing style very thrilling.

As you begin this book your thoughts are what happened to this girl, horrific injuries, and she is still alive.
Blessedly, Sophie doesn’t know who she is or where she was, but those memories creep back,
This read will keep you on the edge of your seat and not let you go. Who is watching? Why?
As the facts unfold, we get a look into the life of a young girl, holding guilt and a brother that was there for her, or was he?
If you like a book that grabs you and doesn’t want to let go, this one will be right up your alley!
Enjoy!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bookouture, and was not required to give a positive review.

THis story was much darker than I was expecting. At first it was haunting and then suddenly a revelation made me stop in horror at what just happened and I don't think I recovered after that! Unbearably sad but compulsive reading!

A stellar read that gripped me from the first page!

Our protagonist is a 30 year old woman, likely thrown from a car after being beaten. She can’t remember her own name or anything about herself, other than that she has a brother named Miles and someone wants to hurt her.

She begins to call herself Sophie, thanks to a necklace that was found with her, and when Sophie leaves the hospital, she begins working at an old Appalachian mansion with its own mystery, as Sophie tries to unravel her own.

The twists were amazing and this book was so well-written! I could not put it down. I can’t wait to read more from Kelly Heard.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Silent Girl' by Kelly Heard.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Kelly Heard, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 9th April 2020.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and intriguing cover and its captivating synopsis. The synopsis also stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, The Woman in the Window and The Silent Patient'. I loved 'The Girl On The Train' and 'The Silent Patient' so it will be interesting to see if it lives up to this statement.I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 60 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in California, US 🇺🇸

This book is written in first person perspective with the protagonist being Sophie. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

This book is well written with very vivid descriptions that places you right next to 'Sophie' while everything is going on. The synopsis describes the book well.

The storyline pulls you straight in with the first few chapters as Sophie wakes up in a hospital bed and questions who she is and how she ended up there. I did find it was quite a slow burner and you didn't see much 'action' for at least 50% of the book. However, I loved reading about the history of the estate she was staying and the mystery of what happened to its previous owner. I also enjoyed the environment of the estate and really felt it come to life. There are parts of the book that was filled with suspense and action although I found it more of a mystery myself. I was quite surprised when I discovered what had happened to her so extra points to Kelly Heard for that as its getting harder and harder to surprise me.

The characters are all very unique, strong and also complex. Each of the three main characters definitely had a history and it was intriguing to watch the character development and relationships bond and break. I believe the story is strongly based on how certain relationships can affect us and how we cling on to certain people and seem to become blind to their toxic nature. I really enjoyed Sophie's character along with Nathaniel, each have their own demons to face and yet they fought them to the end.

Overall an intriguing and quite unique story about the complexity of some relationships and love of others.

Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Fiction and Noir Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of novels that dig quite deep into different relationships.

341 pages.

This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 4/5 (I enjoyed it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

From the jump, this story will draw you in. When the girl wakes up and remembers nothing, she has so many questions and as a reader, so will you. I love how this book kept you curious throughout as each little clue fell and you wondered how it all would piece together. The story was a bit predictable, but it seemed intentional that you should be able to solve the mystery and put it together just as the girl did it herself. There were some parts that were slow if you’re more of a thriller/suspense reader as the story also had a romantic line and the girl was obsessed with the history of the estate where she was staying. I think that the history of the estate was intriguing, but the characters obsession with the woman who died there fell flat as it never seemed relevant even when the ending tries to tie them together. Overall I really enjoyed figuring this mystery out bit by bit and loved the relationships that were built throughout the story.

I am a bit 'on the fence' with this book, found it hard to get into the storyline and it seemed to drag a bit in places.

Overall it was a well written book but it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat and after a bit of skim reading I was glad when I had finished it.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

I was skeptical of this story because it sounded like a tale told many times but the author truly put a unique spin to the Jane Doe plot and kept my interest until the end. I was a little disappointed in the ending but don’t regret reading it and would recommend to any psychological thriller fans!

The Silent Girl by Kelly Heard is about a woman who wakes up in the hospital with a bunch of injuries indicative of a struggle, but she can’t remember who she is. She has vague memories of her childhood, but can’t remember her name or much else except that she needs to find her brother. She meets a man and starts working with him and living on the property she is working at and starts to form some relationships until she finds out who she is and why she was left to die. There was a lot of suspense in this and I really liked the memories and the way this all came together. I thought it had a lot of really interesting elements to it and I really enjoyed this one. I will definitely be checking out other books by this author!

Jane Doe is found on the side of the road with injuries and flowers in her hair. She is brought to the hospital and when she wakes she has no memory of what happened to her or who she is. Detective Selena Radford tells her they can't find any leads on what happened to her there but did they did find a pendent necklace featuring an astrological glyph called Sophia in her possession. Jane Doe decides to take on the name Sophie from this point on.

With no one to help, she decides to take a job landscaping at an abandoned historic estate called Dovemorn that is known to be haunted. There she meets caretaker Nathaniel Wells and his son Lincoln. While working there she has memories of her childhood and her brother, Miles. She thinks someone is after her and she needs to find her brother for help.

This had some twists and turns which I really liked. The ending was not what I was hoping for, but overall it was a decent thriller.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
