This story has you on a journey with the main character waking up in a hospital not knowing her name or what has happened to her. Struggling with information that slowly comes back to you and trying to process it and make decisions for your life going forward.
This story will have you wondering how you would handle memories and trying to know what is real and what is just a nightmare.

I really enjoyed this story and how Sophie/Dora comes to know herself.

I've been sitting here struggling to decide if I like this book or not. I was very into the first 20 chapters. The beginning sucked me in; an unknown girl found severely injured but who is she and where is she from, just awakens all my reading senses. But then the middle to end transition just lacked for me. The action was all forced into the last 10ish chapters. It felt rushed and honestly, I was confused when reading it. My mind could not compute what actions were taking place. This book had all the potential but fell flat for me.

Thank you Kelly Heard, Bookouture, and Netgalley for this ARC read!

Synopsis:

Sophie wakes up in a hospital bed with no memories at all – she doesn’t know how she got there, nor does she know if Sophie is even her name. She’s told by police that they found her unconscious with a bunch of red rose petals, and that police are certain someone tired to murder her. While she’s in the hospital, she feels as though someone is watching her… and she’s creeped out when red roses show up to her room with no note. She eventually leaves the hospital and takes a job in a remote location where she figures she’ll be safe, but then more roses show up.

My review:

The book was well written, but I found it to be slow to start. It also dragged in a few places. It was overall an entertaining book, but for dragging in certain places. I prefer more fast-paced thrillers.

DNF- The book had a very promising blurb and the first few chapters were quite intriguing. Though we do get an idea of about Sophie through snippets of her flashback, even at 50% of the book, there was no hint of what the big mystery that was plaguing her was or some twist or anything. While the author tried to create a haunted feel by referring to Zenaida's portrait and the mansion, all that I felt was irritation that the story was not moving forward. There was no chemistry between Nathaniel and Sophie and yet they are kissing all of a sudden, which, by the way was very random. Maybe there was a mystery in there somewhere, but the story failed to hold my attention beyond a point and I had to quit.

Jane Doe wakes in a hospital bed, beaten and bruised. She knows only that her life is in danger and that she needs to find her brother, Miles. Assuming the name Sophie after a pendant symbol found with her, she absconds from hospital and makes her way to an old house, where she knows they require labourers. Will she ever remember what has happened to her?

I found this book very slow to start and it dragged in places. The characters were all well written but somehow I struggled to warm to them. I did enjoy the story, but it needed a bit more pace for me! The descriptions of Dovemorn were my favourite passages. I loved the language used by the author and I could imagine the setting very clearly- especially the stained glass window.

This is a solid, well written book that just needed to move a bit quicker! Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book.

The blurb from this sounded intriguing and a book that I would enjoy and it certainly lived up to my expectations , it’s tense and well written and right to the end, I had no idea how it would finish, it’s my first time reading anything by this author and if her other books are as gripping, then I have something to look forward to.

A young woman wakes up in the hospital. She doesn't remember anything about who she is and what happened to her. All she knows is that she was found by the side of the road with severe injuries, flower petals in her hair and words written in her body. She takes the name Sophie, not sure it is actually her name. With no one looking for her and no place to go, she gets a job outside of town in an old estate, helping the groundskeeper, Nathaniel, to clean it up. And all is well until she starts receiving flowers.
Well, what do you know, I just found a book that might make it to my favorites list. I definitely wasn't expecting it when I requested it, I just hoped it would be an enjoyable thriller. But it was so much more than that.
First of all, I loved the atmosphere in this. It was so reach, so well done, with so many emotions at play. When Sophie wakes up she doesn't know anything about herself, but she is sure that she is being watched. There was this constant sense of danger in the back of my mind as I was reading. The first thing Sophie remembers, before she remembers herself, was that she has a brother. She loves him, would die for him. As she misses him, wondering why he is not looking for her, you feel this intense pining, Sophie's loneliness, the desire to be loved. And as she slowly grows closer to Nathaniel the atmosphere starts to have these soft, cozy vibes. Two lonely people finding some piece in each other.
A lot of this story is about relationships, connections we have with other people and how often times we become blind to their toxic nature. Especially if those people are our family.
Sophie is a wonderful character. Her loneliness practically jumps off the page, makes you feel for her. She is an artist, so she already has a vivid imagination, but she is also trapped in her head with the memories that slowly come to her. And so often times she feels like she can't even trust herself, confusing real fear with the memory of fear. Yet you know she's been through hell and definitely has a lot of strength in her. By the end, when all is revealed, I ended up admiring her spirit. Nathaniel had demons of his own that he had to face. The romance was so sweet, I could read hundreds of pages of these characters just plucking weeds and cooking and being in love. Oh, and the little kid, Lincoln, was so adorable.
I think it could make a great movie, Hollywood better get on that. I loved this book so much and would highly recommend it.

An advanced thriller.
Sophie was found alone, unconscious and surrounded by blood-red flower petals, on a remote stretch of highway. She had no I.D., no phone, and no one had reported her missing. But while Sophie’s identity is a mystery, one thing is clear: someone tried to kill her and they almost succeeded.
While she’s recovering, Sophie can’t shake the feeling someone is watching her. When a bouquet of red roses is sent to her room without a note, she is convinced they’re from the same people who left her for dead with crimson flowers woven through her hair…
With no one to turn to, Sophie takes a job working high in the mountains, miles from the nearest town, where she feels she might finally be safe.
I loved it. Awesome Twists.
I'm doing more promotion on its release date among my fellow Authors Bloggers Family Friends and followers.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advanced copy of this psychological thriller.

An excellent thriller that realistically depicts a woman trying desperately to keep herself safe but from what? I highly enjoyed this book and I did identify with the characters. I enjoyed it immensely.
