This was quite a good and enjoyable slow burn book. First time I've heard of this author so definitely keen to read more books by Helene Flood

Enjoyed this read and didn’t expect the actually twists within the story. The only thing I found with it was that it was slow going but you just need to carry on to find out the truth.

The Therapist by Helene Flood is a domestic thriller following the story of Sarah and her husband Sigurd.

The story starts off slowly. Sigurd left for a guys adventure to a cabin in the woods. Sarah goes along with her day as planned, a few therapy sessions booked in for her clients. While she was working Sigurd leaves her a voicemail message advising he has arrived safely at the cabin. Hours later Sarah gets a phone call from his friends asking if she has seen her husband and when he will be arriving. Is it some sick joke or is Sigurd actually missing? Sarah starts getting worried when Sigurd doesn’t answer his phone or calls her back. She files a missing person report with the police. What happened to Sigurd and who is responsible for his disappearance?

This book didn’t grab me as much as I would have loved it to. The storyline started off very slow and we only get to read from Sarah’s point of view. I would have loved to have seen other points of view especially from the police investigation side and some of Sarah's clientele.

Hmm, not sure about this novel. Parts of it I found too long winded and parts were riveting. Sarah’s husband is going away for the weekend with his friends. He phones her to say he has arrived but then later on in the day his friends ring to see where he is. The police say it is too early to report him missing but then his body turns up with bullet holes in his back.
The police seem to move into Sarah’s house while she carry’s on with her work as a Therapist in a private room in her house. What exactly the police are doing in her house or why is never really explained but maybe it’s because Sarah is their main suspect. Of course there are the usual red herrings and twists but I didn’t find it that compelling on the whole.

I absolutely loved this slow burning psychological thriller. It's hugely atmospheric and there is an underlying sense of unease throughout the whole novel. I wasn't sure how reliable Sara's point of view was and found myself so immersed in every detail of the story. The twists towards the end were completely unexpected and despite it being fairly slow paced I found it gripping and compelling. Highly recommended.

Found it a page Turner and quite gripping... figured out one of the patients 25% into the book however I didnt see the ending coming.... I did feel like certain parts of the book dragged on abit and maybe I read it so quick was there was no chapters to tell me to stop.... I have no self control when reading. I did enjoy the book and story just felt like it dragged.

This was more of a slow burning mystery rather than a thrilling ride. It was well written though and definitely engaging but it was a little too slow and long-winded for me. I felt like giving up a couple of times but I persevered and I’m glad that I did- the ending was really good and suspenseful.

That's not to say it isn't an immersive read, and atmospheric too.
I thought the premise was interesting and the set up with the house unfinished etc was good. It added to the sense of menace that surrounded Sara's home.
I do think it's a shame to point out that a book has a twist, and a double twist in this case. I would have preferred to have the bombshell dropped unexpectedly. Instead, after the first reveal I was just looking and guessing what the next was going to be. Personally I would say that there is a reveal and a twist at the end.
Having said that I did enjoy reading it, and of course wanted to know what had happened to Sigurd which had me turning the pages.

I thought it was a bit slow in the beginning, but stuck with it and I’m glad I did. Plenty of twists and just when you think you’ve worked it out, wrong! Loved the ending totally unexpected. Would thoroughly recommend.

I liked this but it was very slow. The story was there but hidden in the pages of description about taking a shower and having coffee etc. The style was good but there was a quick change of this at a crucial moment and it threw me off. Interesting premise though!

I found this quite a slow read, not a great deal happens for the first three quarters of the book and although there is a twist at the end the payoff didn’t warrant the slog through the earlier stages of the book. Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me.

This was a surprising and highly unusual mystery telling the story of a therapist that falls under suspicion following her questionable actions during the course of investigation. A good solid read!

I thought I had it all figured out... Not at all! Having unexpected ending is always a must and this book delivered it.

Easy, fast paced read. Finished the entire book in one sitting. There weren’t many twists and turns, but somehow even without them, the book was still quite entertaining.

It’s really difficult to give this book a review without the spoilers. I’d love to have a chat with others who have read this and see whether they agree with me about the main pros and cons. Anyone up for a chat? :)

As soon as I finished this book I was like OMG! I cannot believe what had happened at the end. Sara's husband Sigurd is leaving to go to a holiday cabin with a couple of his mates, when she receives a voicemail to say he has arrived, she is happy and gets on with her day, but when a phonecall comes from his friend to say Sigurd never turned up, Sara's world comes crashing down on her, where is he? and what has happened to him? Everyone has secrets but who is going to tell theirs first? Will Sara ever be reunited with her husband ever again or has something more sinister happened to him? You won't believe the ending, very dramatic, tense and makes you question things. I loved it.
