The Hollow sisters have always been different, ever since they disappeared for a month all those years ago, before reappearing with no memory of what had happened, just an identical half-moon scar at the base of their throats. Now the youngest, Iris, is seventeen when her oldest sister, Grey, suddenly goes missing, and Iris keeps seeing a strange male figure with what looks like horns on his head. Iris and her remaining sister, Vivi, decide to go searching for Grey, but they may not be prepared for what they will find.

When the book finally got through telling us umpteen times just how stunning/beautiful/gorgeous the sisters are, it turned into an intriguing story. It has potential and the excerpt has definitely whet my appetite for reading the full book at some point. I rate if 3 stars at the moment, but I could see it reaching 4 if not 5 before the end.

Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, Bonnier Books UK/Hot Key Books, for the opportunity to read a short sample of the book. My current review is based on the excerpt only.

I really enjoyed the extract of this book. It sets a unique storyline that I am excited to find out more about and finish the story. A bit of witchy magic and mystery. The characters feel like they are well written and it is set in a real world scenario, not fantasy, which makes it intriguing.
Thanks for letting me read this, can't wait to read the full book and do a full review!

I have only read an extract but it sounds really interesting! I want to know more about what has happened to Grey their sister as well as to what happened to them as kids. I am really intrigued by this story and I really want to pick this book up when it comes out in April.

For the ratings I feel like it's unfair to judge it based on just the little bit that I read, so I'm going to give it 4 stars as it did make me intrigued to want to read more as I found this thriller really enticing.

Amazing. This book was everything I could have hoped for. It is dark and mysterious and fast paced, you can read this in one sitting. The story and the bond of these three sisters, and all the questions I still have. I cannot wait to see what this author brings next. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

Creepy, atmospheric and utterly engrossing. I've enjoyed Krystal Sutherland's novels in the past, so I knew I'd love the beautiful writing style for this, but honestly this sample had me hooked from the start. It's a fairytale of sorts, following the Hollow sisters who disappeared and came back....different. This leaves an interesting family dynamic that I was only just starting to understand as the sample ended, and left me eager to read on. I've already pre-ordered my copy.

‘Of course I remember. I remember everything. You just wouldn’t believe me if I told you’.

Iris, Vivi and Grey Hollow, three sisters who went missing in Edinburgh’s Old Town as children, and inexplicably reappeared a month later naked and with identical moon shaped scars, have grown up shrouded in mystery and intrigue. All very different but each ethereal in their own way, the sisters stand out and make their way through life albeit amid rumours of witchcraft, Vivi playing guitar in a band, Grey a successful fashion designer, and Iris still at school. When Grey goes missing ten years after the girls’ first disappearance, and Vivi and Iris can’t ‘feel’ her presence, they search her room and discover a clue left for them by Grey with no explanation for her disappearance, only an address and a warning

‘And if he comes for you - run’.

This YA novel is dark and edgy, and full of cool and current pop culture. Definitely one for fans of creepy witchy weirdness, this ethereal and twisty mystery won’t disappoint.

Many thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this arc sample.

Ok so this book had me hooked and I can’t wait until it comes out so I can read the whole thing! This is such a unique book and the writing really draws you in! This book feels seductive... I don’t even know how to explain it. The writing just sucks you in, in such a horrifyingly sensual way and I can’t put it down🤭 I am now desperate to read the whole thing. I am so intrigued by everything— the relationship between the three sisters, what happened that night, the man who was watching her when she went for a run. I’m utterly fascinated by this book🤭

SAMPLER review

So I don't know if it is a prose choice or an editing error but there were a lot of words just...incomplete words that contained 'ft' together were with cut in half with a space or pulled together with no space - what I'm assuming 'after' was 'aer'. The sampler also starts off nonsensical or with a typo....it's hard to tell what was atmospheric~ and what was just wrong. It really did not make for a nice reading experience, so I skimmed through a lot of it to get the premise of both the plot and prose - it has the potential to be great and slightly unsettling but the constant errors made it difficult for my brain to engage.

There is something about the Hollow sisters. Rumours and intrigue swirl around them. Everyone has heard about theIr mysterious disappearance all those years ago. How they vanished in to thin air one day, only return one month later with their hair and eye colour changed, a ravenous hunger and the power to make people do as they please.
Years into the future, one sister has disappeared again and the remaining two are stalked by a horned creature.

Thank you to Netgalley and Hot Key books.for giving me a sample of the first 80 pages, in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the opening to the book and I am desperate to find out what happened to Grey Hollow.
The opening chapter is skin crawlingly creepy and I became immersed into the story straight away. The blending of the modern world with the fairytale mythology of the Hollow sisters makes for a very atmospheric and enthralling read. I can’t wait to dive back into that world and get some answers. Roll on April 6th.

I have had the opportunity to read an advanced sampler of this book. The reader is introduced to the Hollow sisters who mysteriously disappeared for a month many years ago. Following a just as mysterious return their father has difficulties believing they are his daughters thinking they are imposters. Fast forward to the present and the youngest Hollow sister - Iris is still living at home with a very protective mother. The other two sisters have moved on in the world. Vivi is in a band and Gray is a supermodel. However there are some strange goings on and Gray appears to have disappeared. This was an intriguing introduction to the book and made me want to read more.
Thanks netgalley for the free sampler.

An absolutely captivating glance into what seems like a phenomenal story. There’s such a strong foundation in such a short time and Krystal Sutherland has done a wonderful job pulling you straight in. Her writing is hauntingly beautiful right from the start and I hope that continues within the storyline too.

I’ve never read something that’s both beautiful and grotesque and the same time - except maybe Wilder Girls by Rory Powers; I would highly recommend picking this book up if you loved the weird themes there.

I’m going to pre-order this book straightaway because I can’t wait to continue reading it!

‘House of Hollow’ has the most beautiful cover and I have seen a lot of talk about it online so when I received the advance sampler I was excited to find that in case you should definitely judge a book by its cover. The beginning is eerie and gothic in the most intriguing way.
The story centers on the three Hollow sisters, each powerful and hauntingly beautiful. Thanks to their beauty people have always been drawn towards them; Grey and Vivi have harnessed this talent but youngest sister Iris finds it unsettling and strange. The family’s strangeness goes back to their sudden disappearance that none of them recall but left them irreversibly different.
Then Grey goes missing leaving her sisters a trail of clues behind her but what strange secrets has she kept from her siblings?
This sampler kept me so hooked and needless to say I need to find out the mystery of the Hollow sisters and cannot wait for the full story!

The seductive cover caught my eye. The exquisite blend mix of reality and the supernatural held me captive as I was introduced to the mysterious Hollow sisters. The sample that I read hints at dark faerie magic, urban myth and sorrel secrets and had me rushing to pre-order my copy. Roll on April 6th.

My thanks go to the publishers and NetGalley for the advance sample in return for an honest review.

House of Hollow is that rare kind of book that once you've opened the first page you simply cannot put it down. I found myself cramming pages in during breaks, lunches and, bus rides home. I really could not stop reading. Its pace and tone are exceptional and the mystery that Sutherland builds throughout the book is truly impressive. I can't wait till this publishes to find out how the Hollow sister's story plays out. Our students might have to wait awhile to get hold of this one!

Krystal Sutherland has a poignant melancholic way of writing something which is also evident in this title. The mystery is interesting and properly creepy.

Grey, Vivi and Iris Hollow. Sisters who disappeared without trace several years ago, turning up one month later, sharing the same crescent shaped scar at the base of their throats, and with no memory of where they had been. Mysterious and other worldly, there is more to them than meets the eye. Although I've only had a chance to read the first few chapters I am hooked! (even with the Kindle formatting issues). Deliciously dark. Can't wait to read the full book. I

Just finished reading this sample and oh wow! I can't wait to find out what happens next. There's a sinister undertone to this modern fantasy that I really love, and I can only imagine it gets better. My only niggle is, as a British reader, all the Americanisms in a story that's set in London, but maybe that will become more relevant as the book goes on! Will definitely be reading the whole thing.
