I requested this book from Netgalley as it was under the thriller section. Whilst there is a domestic thriller undertone it is primarily a family drama about two sisters and the choices they make. There are many rom com aspects and I think this would be very popular for people who want a bit more from their romance/family novels but it’s not exactly what I was expecting.

I absolutely loved reading this, I couldn't put it down. It had an amazing plot, and I felt I could get along with the characters. I also chuckled a few times throughout,

A great story about two sisters for a debut novel. A book that grips from the start making it a quick read. I will look forward to more by this new author

Kate and Bec are sisters each trying to cope with the tests life brings.
Kate is beautiful, a model, with everything going for her....until a ‘mistake’ results in a life-changing experience
Bec is married, mother to Mathilda, Lachlan and Essie...but unhappy. Will her ‘mistake’ have devastating consequences?

A really great debut novel from Katie McMahon.

There were parts of this book I liked, and others I found a bit annoying, but overall I really enjoyed it and it definitely got more interesting as the book went on and certain circumstances came to light, with quite a bit of drama towards the end.

Kate and Bec are sisters. Kate is single and used to be a model, Bec is a wife and mother to two children. Kate seems to have the perfect carefree single life with plenty of money from her modelling days, and Bec seems to have the perfect family life, but neither sister is being quite honest.

But then Bec's husband, a doctor and a really nice guy, has issues with his job and Bec wasn't very supportive of him at all, she was more interested in the affair she was just starting with a younger man, who was a performer at the party she'd arranged for her husband's birthday party.... really?! There were parts of Kate that I really didn't like either, but she grew on me, especially when she met Adam, as I really liked him.

An enjoyable book with plenty to keep you interested, especially when secrets about both the new partners were revealed.

I found this book very easy to fly my way through. Part of that is because it has a storyline that you want to know the next bit of, it well written with really great characters.

This gripping page turner is based on two sisters, Kate and Bec, and the mistakes they made in their past and the mistakes that are being revealed in the present day.

I really enjoyed the different points of view from each of sister’s own perspectives. The ending was completely unexpected, but it brings everything together like a wrapped ribbon around a parcel. It is very well written..

The only reason this is not a five star read for me is because I didn’t think the ending for Kate and Stuart was necessary, and it should have been left as it was in earlier chapters. (Trying not to add spoilers here!)

Despite this small factor, I highly recommend this to any domestic thriller fans and can’t wait to discuss this with anyone whose already read it!

A tale of 2 sisters who have a close relationship and can evidently only rely on one another. A nice easy read with good character development. Well written and draws you in

The Mistake follows sisters Kate (an ex supermodel trying to return to dating after a life changing operation) and Bec (a surgeon’s wife and mum of 3). Both embark on new relationships with men that may or may not be able to be trusted.

I related well to the characters and enjoyed the style of writing however the book felt a little disjointed to me. The first three quarters feel like a romance book or women’s literature before the pace picked up in the last quarter to become more of a “thriller”.

Overall an enjoyable read.

I am an avid fan of Liane Moriarty and upon seeing that she had loved the book on the front cover, I knew this wasn't a book to be missed. The plot kept me wanting to read on and I didn't want the story to end if I am honest. I read it quickly because I just couldn't put it down. The characters were believable and likeable (some not so much) and I really enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend it to everyone and will be keeping an eye out for more Katie McMahon novels in the future.

Bec and Kate are sisters. Bec is a married mother of 3 with a doctor husband and a fulfilling life. Kate is trying to navigate the world of dating while studying for her PHD. The book tells their story, their relationship past and present and we glimpse the future too.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit light and fluffy to start and I found myself looking back at the blurb as it didn’t seem like my usual kind of read. Then it got interesting, and I became invested in the characters and the story. By the time I’d got to the half way point I was fully engaged and desperate to find out where the story was going.

I liked the characters and I really loved the relationship between the sisters. It seemed very realistic to me- the way they spoke to each other and thought of each other. It all seemed well researched and everything was believable, which made it even more shocking in places!

The last quarter of the book was really fantastic. Well paced, brilliantly written and I do love an ending where things are wrapped up neatly. I enjoyed this novel and will definitely look for more books by this author. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book.

The Mistake - Katie McMahon

These kinds of Australian sunny domestic thriller have become something of a not-so-guilty pleasure for me. Coming from reading mainly Crime and Psychological Thrillers then discovering and binge reading all of Liane Moriarty's books last year then loving two by Sally Hepworth, I'm keen to try more.

The Mistake deals with two sisters.

Bec is the very respectable Doctor's wife, with three children at Private school.

Kate is single, was a very successful up-and-coming model whose career was tragically cut short, now working in education looking towards a PHD.

The novel is almost entirely in their perspectives, very fluidly switching between dialogue and internal thoughts, it's very entertaining and frequently very funny. The writing is a joy and captures and delivers a real self-awareness in both sisters.

Both sisters meet attractive men, will Bec risk everything for a tempestuous affair? Is Kate's new love Adam who he says he is?

For a lot of the book I found it veering towards the domestic drama / romantic comedy end of the scale, but still found it very entertaining, then when the thriller takes holds it is swift, tense and shockingly effective.

Kate was my favourite, a unique character, working hard to move on from the international modelling career and lifestyle that was defined by her appearance.

Thoroughly enjoyable, with sparkling writing and characterisation and a domestic thriller plot that creeps up unexpectedly and effectively through the rom-com, and believe me, the clues are there all through the book if you are looking for them.

For an overall rating, I would give it 5* for writing and entertaining, 4* for the rom-com which really isn't my thing, and 5* for the gripping last quarter. So 4.5* overall.

This is a debut novel, and, as it says on the cover fans of Liane Moriarty will love it, it certainly isn't dulled by the comparison, which is very high praise indeed.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bonnier Books.

A good read.
Kate and Bec are sisters, but they could not be less alike. Bec lives the perfect life: perfect house, perfect husband, perfect children. That is, until she meets Ryan - ten years her junior, wild and exciting, his arrival makes her question everything. Her sister Kate's life is anything but perfect. Her modelling career ended suddenly over a decade ago; and since then she's lived a lonely existence. But when she meets tall, kind, funny Adam, things start to look up. Yet something doesn't quite add up, and as he avoids Kate's questions, she begins to wonder if he really is too good to be true.
Read this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Zafre for giving me an advanced copy.

This is a book about relationships and the changes we need to make in life to feel alive as we get older. The book follow two sisters and the decisions they basically make at the same time putting a relationship under a microscope. I highly enjoy the very realistic strive between the sisters but closeness at the same time. I highly recommend this book.
