A twisty turny thriller where you have no idea what's happening but having a great time while reading.

I had a great time with this one and was very intrigued as to how things were going to end up.

Both of the main characters are very morally Grey which I enjoyed.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Firstly I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. This is the first in a series of books and I thoroughly enjoyed it, great characters and story, I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I unfortunately struggled with this one and it was a DNF for me, which is why I totally spaced writing my review. I do feel that I would give this one another chance to try to power through, as I have seen a lot of amazing review for it.

Deftly Drawn…
The first in the Butler and West series of police procedurals which goes deeper than, perhaps, a standard whodunnit. A deftly drawn cast populate an immersive and compelling plot making for a compulsive and satisfying read.

This book had you up all night reading. It was easy to follow and moves at a steady pace. This is a new author for me so I will definately be looking at other books she was written.

Butler and West are newly paired detectives and they aren't the closet of colleagues but they are both great at what they do. So Butler is very confused by how West is handling the case and the delivery of the death notice. What Butler doesn't know is that West was having an affair with the Deceased and only realises when they are delivering the death notice to his now widow.

I love crime thrillers and a page turned and now I have another crime author to add to my pile of crime series to be hooked on!!
It was an absolute pleasure to read and even though I was a tad confused at point with who was who eventually I got it and was loving every second of it!

Great thing about this book is the fact we have a pair rather than just the one detecrive, reading how a pair reading how they bounce off each other. I did find aspects of their back stories a bit predictable but It was still great to read.

I also found that the police procedure elements of rho book are fantastic and as someone whose taught law I appreciated how accurate it is. Although I must say there was a bit too much repeating of certain things but not enough to cause me to put it down.

So if you are like me always on the haunt for a new crime series then give this one a try it's different to a lot out there so worth the read. We have two great leads and I found the murder investigation super addictive I didn't have a clue who did it and why. Although I didn't like the victim!
Recommend and rate 3.5 stars.

Apologies to the Author, publisher and Netgalldy for the digital advance copy j completely forgot to write the review when I read. The book is now out for release

I struggled with this book. It didn’t grip me and it was a bit of a chore to read. I stuck with it to find out who the bad guy was but it was a tad predictable. There was also a lack of likable characters. Butler, West, and the victim's wife, Amy, are all pretty dark characters which made it difficult to connect and care what happened to them. The way Butler & West ran the investigation with all the lies and dodgy behaviour seemed a bit over the top.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

This was an incredibly addicting book; as I said before, I think I read it almost in one sitting. It was incredibly written, kept you on the edge of your seat, and really made you wonder how the ending would come about.

This was the type of book where you had a good feeling of what the ending would be, all signs point to it, but you didn't know how you would get there.

It was a really interesting, layered plot with so many deep, dark secrets, so many twists and unexpected characters -- it was incredible and kept my attention the entire way through. There was not a moment in this novel that was boring or slow. Also, it didn't feel like anything was unnecessary; sometimes there is an unnecessary subplot that doesn't add to the story and only takes up time but not here... everything was essential.

I will admit, it was slightly confusing at the beginning as you get acquainted with all the characters and the plot but once you're in it, you're hooked.

As for the characters, Amy is the worst of all time and Detectives Butler & West had amazing chemistry and were so likable. It made me really excited to read more of their story together.

This was such a solid detective novel. It's a series that I would love to see through and continue to read and obsess over. If you love true crime, detective novels, and wild twists, you need to read "The Last Place You Look" by Louisa Scarr.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read and felt compelled to finish it in a day. The writing was engaging with vivid descriptions, so you could really picture the setting. The characters were authentic and I felt invested in their story.

'Last place you look' begins with the discovery of the body of Jonathan Miller. At first site, it looks like an erotic fantasy gone wrong but it soon becomes clear it might be something more sinister. Robin and Freya make a great team of police officers, each with their own secrets to hide.

Jonathan's wife Amy, her sister Olivia and friend Kal could all have played a part in Jonathan's death. The author really keeps you guessing and does a great job of tying everything up in the end.

I will certainly look to read more by this author.
Thanks indeed to netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I found this to be gripping and raced through it. I found the characters to be intriguing everything worked to produce a really great mystery. Can't wait to read more

I hope this will continue as a crime series, the characters were interesting. The detective investigating this apparent suicide was having an affair with the victim but that is not the only personal involvement of both main detectives in past crimes. Do wrongs ever bring about a right? Well written and compelling.

I found this novel really interesting mainly because of the two detectives assigned to the case. Their characters are polar opposites. They are called to investigate an erotic asphyxiation gone wrong. They work methodically and soon find that this story is not quite fitting so decide to investigate this as a murder.

A really great take on the police procedural. I would love to read more.

I tried to read this, but gave up about 1/4 of the way through. It was definitely a DNF for me. I would still read more by the author. However, I just didn't connect with this story.

2/5 Stars

Place You Look by Louisa Scarr is a debut crime thriller. A new crime fighting duo is never a bad thing, for me anyway!
This story follows the investigation of Jonathan Miller who has died from aspyxiation during a solitary sex act, or so it seems. Fresh partners DS Robin Butler and DC Freya West are on it from the start. West actually knows the victim personally and it makes murder seem more plausible, a very cleverly hidden one but murder all the same. Butler had skeletons in his past and they tend to keep falling out of the said cupboard so the scene is set.
These two officers are a cracking pair. They are almost an 'opposites attract'. West is truly torn apart in the present and Butler is dealing with tragedy from his past and is a mess and we see West being the copper that is on the way up. They both tend to go off 'piste' with their investigations so match up there. Two definitely flawed coppers who have a case that they would have been better not having, but it does make the the story intriguing!
I must say I thought DC West did a good job of keeping herself professional on the case...Butler on the other hand, well read it and you can decide for yourself. I think it's just the type of man he is, too busy with his own problems to see the lay of the land.
In conclusion I thought ' Last Place You Look' a great start to a new series. It had everything needed to be a gripping and interesting read. I am looking forward to reading more about DS Butler and DC West in the near future.
Thanks to Damp Pebbles Blog Tours, NetGalley and Louisa Scarr for the copy of the book.

Love, love, love finishing a month out with an amazing read! I’ve read so many new authors so far this year and they’ve all been so great!

Last Place You Look by @louisascarrwriter is an addictive police crime thriller that will keep you engaged all the way until the end! The plot is super edgy and dark and I found even the unlikeable characters likeable!

SYNOPSIS: Jonathan Miller is found dead in his hotel room- death by a sex act gone wrong. DS Robin Butler and DC Freya West are put on the case- newly partnered together they are quite the interesting team. Both have secrets that could cost them their jobs and secrets that will have consequences on the present case of the death of Jonathan Miller.

West has not been briefed on all the details of the case- only that a man has died. West plans on catching up on the details when she meets Butler at the dead mans residence to inform his spouse. When she gets to the residence she is in for a heartbreaking surprise- she learns that the man who is dead is the same man that she has been having an affair with. Her heart breaks in a million pieces but she decides to try to keep their affair a secret so she can stay on the case. She knows that Jonathan’s death was not an accident- she’s determined to figure out who killed him.

At the same time seasoned DS Butler has his own dark secrets that are not only effecting his personal life but his work life as well. While Butler is attempting to figure out the Miller case he’s also dealing with trying to keep his past actions at bay- otherwise he could be not only kicked off the case but even sent to prison.

✨✨✨✨

I really recommend this book if you like police crime thrillers. It is a fast paced, gritty & gripping read. The epilogue leaves you wanting more and I can not wait for the sequel!

Thank you @netgalley for the gifted copy!
