A perfect sequel. Lovely to be reunited with characters we came to love in the first book and see their journey progress even further. Works great as a stand-alone novel too,

I received this book from NetGalley and MacMillan Children’s Books. I have given Dance Like No One’s Watching by Vanessa Jones three out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The above book description seems a little misleading to what I read from front to back of this book. It looks to focus on, our main character; Nettie’s boyfriend, Fletch – in regards to Fletch having a coma. I don’t want to spoil anything however, I feel like I need to say that this part only really happens towards the end of the book.

Despite the above paragraph which threw me off slightly, I really liked learning about the main and side characters in this book. I thought they were all well-developed and had their own voice which made it easy to differentiate between each character without getting confused on who was who. We follow our main character, Nettie, who I thought was a loveable person. I definitely had a lot of sympathy for Nettie throughout this story due to a lot of situations that happen.

One particular part I really enjoyed about this book were the musical theatre and movie references which were planted throughout this book. I thought they added a fun flare and also was very relevant to the characters career choices and subject at matter.

I found this book to be more character driven than having a strong plot, which I can appreciate as I find having strong characters helps you to connect and enjoy the story more. The plot was filled with lots and lots of drama! The style of writing was really easy to follow and had a great flow to it; this definitely helped to carry the book further.

I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy contemporary and drama-filled books.

Such a lovely and simple read which follows on from the first novel. Took a while for the story to really kick in but once it got started I was hooked. Vanessa is such a lovely person and it comes across in her novels with the main character being sweet and kind.

Can't wait to see if there is going to be a third!

I really good easy read about Nettie who attends Duke's and performing arts college.

It is Netties second year at Duke's and she hopes it is better than the pervious year, it should be as she has great friends and a great boyfriend. But as term starts problems arise through the TV programme that is being filmed at the college.

Can Nettie and her friends survive the year or will the manipulation of the TV producer cause friendships to break and leave lives destroyed?

This book tackled some big issues but in a way that was gentle and not too overbearing.

The only problem I had is that I had not read the first book - but I am now going to go back and read this.

I was really excited to get back into the story of Dukes and I really enjoyed this book! It took me a little while to get going on it, I probably should have re-read the first book! It would have been a 4 star but I feel like it was really slow at points and then suddenly EVERYTHING happened in the last 10%. I wish the body shaming etc had been explored a bit more too. All in all though the inner theatre geek in me loved being back in a performing arts school and made me miss my days treading the boards!!
