A really interesting and enjoyable read - I loved getting to know the characters, and the lives, backgrounds and experiences that led them to this place, and the thoughts of the future that might await.

An incredible journey through the lives of two fascinating characters - exploring the emotions, fears, joy, and humour experienced by the two as they go through life in a psychiatric ward. The way their lives are revealed through the writing brings you on such an emotional journey, experiencing the highest highs and the lowest lows of both their lives. The vulnerability they learn to share with each other creates a feeling of hopefulness that is hard to shake after you put the book down.

I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary this novel provided not just on mental health, and how controversial many of our current beliefs on it are, but on sexuality, race, and class. I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a powerful narrative about two strong women and how they navigate life through a system that is meant to protect you and provide a safe haven but fails somewhat miserably.

As a side note as well, the cover is absolutely beautiful - 11/10!

A tender and genuinely moving exploration of mental health: the darkness that it causes and the friendships that it can inspire. The characters will stay with you for a long time after you have closed the book.
