This was an excellent book and a thoroughly enjoyable read. Set between two time periods; the Second World War and present day, we follow Will and Elsa, who fall in love during turbulent times and Elsa seems to cease from existence following a bomb. Records say Will was never married. Laura, during the present day, is a Social Worker sent to help Will who appears to be suffering from Dementia, but soon suspects otherwise.

This is a lovely tale following both Will and Laura's journeys. We slowly discover more of Will and his beautiful love for Elsa as well as his apparent struggles with understanding what is real and what is not. Their love is seems infinite and it's a delight to read. We also learn more about Laura's struggle with mental health, her battle with depression and anxiety and how she is overcoming them. The description of her past was raw and emotional, but well-written. Her mother irked me a little, I found she had little patience and that made me sad - but perhaps was the aim.

The ending fell a little flat, we went on an epic journey and the end could have been executed better. But in general a wonderful book that made me feel warm and content.

Will Emerson is a young man living in Bath and working as radio engineer during world war 2. He is happily married to Elsa Klein until the day tragedy strikes and their home is bombed. Recovering in hospital Will asks about Elsa but no one knows who he is talking about. Many years later Laura is working as a care assistant and is asked to care for an elderly man in his home. The man appears to be suffering from dementia and keeps insisting he was once married and his wife vanished.

This story is told over duel timelines and I loved the way it panned out. This book started out great for me and I loved the story and the characters especially Will. I was totally loving the whole story but about three quarters way through I thought the story was beginning to drag a bit and I just wanted to get to the end. The audible narration was excellent. 3.5 ⭐️

Set in war time Bath and modern day, this is the story of two families who are devastated by tragedy and how they work together to piece together their lives. Some historical facts woven into the story and thought provoking questions about dementia are included. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook.
