I love this authors books and this one was no exception - it was a great escapist read, full of fun, with many hilarious moments, a little bit sexy and definitely a feel good read.
Peach is a wonderful character and the story centres around her and her role as chief bridesmaid for her sisters wedding.
The whole story was like a mad TV show, full of secrets, misunderstandings, past relationships and crazy characters.
I loved how the story entwined and unfolded and was a wonderful heartwarming read.....

Romcom perfection! That’s it, that’s the review!

I’m kidding, but seriously that’s all you really need to know. Portia MacIntosh writes such whimsical stories filled with such fabulous characters and this might be her best yet! Peach is heading to her baby sister‘s destination wedding when she learns that the best man is someone she knows intimately. Not only that it appears as though she has accidentally invited her sister’s ex-boyfriend to the wedding. And that’s just the Half of it. Additionally little sister Di is marrying a man she’s only known for a week named Charles, nonetheless. At least the wedding is taking place in Italy at a gorgeous villa. But as the guests start arriving the entanglements get Wilder. This was just SO much fun! Peach was such a great character I adored her and I loved her job. Seriously the girl was a secret shopper and got to go visit fancy hotels and eat at five star restaurants for work. The setting of the story was Beautiful! All the characters were so dynamic and well-developed, I’d love to get to know most of them. The story had so many laugh out loud moments, i’m still laughing thinking about it. A perfect beach read that I cannot recommend highly enough!

Portia Macintosh is my auto-buy author. There is something special about her romcoms, something kind and uplifting. Her newest one, Life's a Beach is as good, if not better, as her previous books, so if you're a fan of Portia's writing set aside an afternoon (you know you won't be able to stop until you've devoured the book) and pick up this light and entertaining read.
Peach loves her job and she is great at it. She is a mystery shopper which means she gets to check out what the service is really like at various restaurants, shops, hotels and even chemist chains, and then she has to write an honest report for the business. Sometimes she has to get into a character and even mention her fake fiance Matt once or twice. This time she is having a dinner and is staying overnight in a hotel near the airport and she is doing it with her younger sister Di who is about to fly back from her holiday in Greece. Only Di's flight gets delayed and Peach meets aman who is similarly waiting for somebody arriving with the same flight.
When Di's flight finally lands, she has a  bombshell of news- she is getting married to someone she has known forone week. Should Peach try to stop her from making this huge mistake or is is the case of 'When it's love, it's love'and she should just be happy for Di? The wedding party throws in a heap of  surprises, including a few blasts from the past. What happens next is a real comedy of mistakes and misunderstandings to the soundtrack of 'It's the Groundhog Day...Again and again...'
I really like all Portia's lead characters. Peach is strong and realistic at the same time. She is kind, caring and forgiving. When life throws her a curveball, she picks up pieces and gets on with it. Her message is really positive: everyone makes mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance. I must say I wasn't sure she was going to have her happily-ever-after at the end of this book- this is how realistic this romcom is, but then the ending just melted my heart and was so true to the characters.
Reading this book was like a mini-holiday with all the sunshine, happy, warm feelings, and lovely memories of being truly relaxed and entertained!

I really loved this romcom. Its slightly whimsical tone made me smile throughout and the setting made it a truly escapist read. Family is an important part of the story. I must say that Peach's parents did make me smile, especially their reaction to their empty nest after Peach and her sister left home. As each new character arrives at the Italian villa where Peach's sister Di was staying before her wedding to Charles (!), relationships become more and more complicated. It is certainly fun trying to work out just what is going on with them all.
There are some hilarious episodes in this story which truly deserves the term, romcom. As soon as Vanessa arrives, you know they are going to multiply but there is also more to people than it appears at first sight. This is a great escapist summer read. From the moment that Peach met Matt, I was hooked -but was he?
In short: Sun, sea and romance

This is the story of Peach and is told over 38 Chapters. The story is intriguing from the start and really gives the reader a chance to know the main character. Peach goes through a lot of feelings and situations through this book. All of these situations make for an interesting read.
Twists are found throughout this book which peaks the readers interested and really keeps them invested in the book. The descriptions used throughout the book of both people and places are top notch. They are brilliant enough that readers will be able visualize the places. There is one description at the beginning of this book that I absolutely adore, it is about a gentleman and Zac Efron is mentioned.
Overall this book is completely addictive and readers will love this story. However readers be warned this book will leave the reader wanting more from this author. I myself will be heading to amazon to check out some of Portia's other works.

My second read from MacIntosh and this one had me chuckling throughout. It was a warm, funny read and I felt completely transported to this idyllic, private resort on the Italian coast. Who needs a holiday when you have this book instead?

I feel in love with Peach’s character from the beginning. Her monologue and interpretation of events around her is really funny and I especially enjoyed watching her banter with other characters. Although is sounds like she has a dream job of being a mystery shopper, it is clear that she feels incredibly lonely on the love front. Hence, with her sister announcing her engagement after a very quick romance of seven days, Peach feels she needs to show Di that perhaps this wedding is too soon for the length of their relationship.

Accompanying the bridal party to the Italian resort, it is clear early on that this is not going to be a romantic retreat, concluding with a beautiful wedding. There are exes of both Di and Peach that arrive, and recent past mistakes that Peach cannot seem to leave behind. It is a car-crash of past memories and it was difficult not to share in Peach’s awkwardness. But, at the same time, she keeps her chin up and this just adds to the liveliness and happy-go-lucky atmosphere of the book.

Whilst some elements of the story were predictable, MacIntosh still kept plenty of surprises coming in the narrative. There’s a sweet love story running throughout the book and, actually, this was exactly what I was hoping for from this read. It definitely does not disappoint and I felt as swept away by the story as Di is with the excitement of her pending marriage.

It takes a lot for me to laugh out loud with books but this one definitely did the trick! With its summery, Italian setting, I think this is an ideal candidate for a beach read. Some of the chapters are a bit lengthy but I found I barely noticed once I was absorbed into the story. Peach is far from being perfect and I think the mistakes she has made and her attitude towards like makes her a truly relatable character that will prove popular with readers.

A highly enjoyable read that was a great distraction to everything going on around me, I finished this book with a great smile on my face. MacIntosh provides the perfect happy ending and, although I could not help but growl at some of the male characters, applauded Peach’s strength to carry on and support her sister’s engagement. It’s a book that shows the importance of family and friendships with a group that, from the outside, should surely not holiday together!

With thanks to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Summer time! Beach setting! Let's go!

We are getting close to Summer, although the weather at this exact time in Portugal hasn't been the best. But we can always get warm by traveling through a book as "Life's a Beach" and not only enjoy a virtual trip to Italy and the beach, but also enjoy a romance in a lovely setting.

This isn't the first book by Portia MacIntosh that I have read and I enjoyed it even more that the one I have previously read. "Life's a Beach" had this fun and witty tone, an interesting plot with a group of characters that made me excited.

As we follow Peach (let me just say that I love that name) through this adventure during her sister Di's wedding, we jump into a exciting rollercoaster of moments that grabbed my attention from beginning to end. The book was revelation and surprises after excitement. Honestly that's what I felt. And following Peach as she dealt with everything just made me connect with her and wanting more.

Romance, Drama, Past and Present, Family and Friends, Excitement and Unexpected moments... An entertaining story, perfect for a summer day, and specially if you are looking for a fun time reading.

Overall, I was surprised and I enjoyed every second of the story, will reading page after page. It made me laugh, it made curious, it made me just forget real life for a second, as one would while watching a movie or an episode of a tv show.

[I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Portia MacIntosh for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.]

Being such a huge fan of Portia Macintosh’s other books including Faking It and Stuck on You, I already knew I was going to love Life’s A Beach, but I just didn’t realise how much I was going to love it! We are introduced to the character of Peach (Penelope) is a mystery shoppers – she reviews everything from restaurants and hotels to wedding venues. Her best friend and sister Di is on holiday for a destination wedding. Peach cant wait for her to come home so she can spend a girly night together on one of Peach’s assignments at a hotel near the airport.

While waiting to collect Di from the airport, the plane ends up being delayed, and Peach starts chatting to a super cute guy called Matt who is waiting for the same flight. They get on so well, Peach invites him for dinner with her, and they end up spending the night together. That is, until the follow morning when Matt has just disappeared.

Putting her feelings about Matt aside, Peach meets her sister Di, who has some exciting news to share – Di is getting married – to a guy she met on holiday – and the wedding is happening in Italy in a week’s time! Heading to the airport a few days later, Peach is desperate to make sure her sister isn’t making a mistake. What Peach isn’t expecting is to run into Matt again – he happens to be the groom’s best friend. As well as her ex-boyfriend!

Life’s A Beach is such a brilliantly funny read. The characters are beautifully written and I adore how their stories intertwine and connect together. A fun, light-hearted romance with some unexpected twists and turns along the way. My recommendation – you MUST read Life’s a Beach!!

Life's A Beach is a nice, entarteining and very enjoyable story.

The author once again succeeded to write a novel so easy to read that it seems like it plays in your mind as a movie. I particularly loved the setting of this story because I live in Naples and even if the love island is not real it's easily believing the contrary, the wedding restaurant instead is inspired to a real one.

I really liked the heroine, Peach, she always ends up in the middle of some hilarious situations, I was caught up into her life and I was curious to know how she would have come out of all them.
Matt is swoon worthy, but I didn't like too much how even if he is attracted and besotted to Peach they end up arguing at the littlest misunderstanding.

A new Portia MacIntosh novel I had to get it, read it and shout out about it.

Favorite Quotes:

My dad somehow thought he was sparing me by explaining the inner workings of Naked Wednesday to me so that I could find somewhere else to be moving forward, and when he started trying to explain what was special about Friday nights, I stopped him. I told him that once we were all back from the wedding, no explanation necessary, he just needed to tell me when he wanted me to make myself scarce. No details required. Please, God, spare me details.

She isn’t twenty-eight at all, she’s thirty-one, the same as me. It seems almost silly, to lie about just three years, but I think Van might be playing the long game with that one. I get the feeling she’s going to be twenty-eight for a long time – for as long as people will believe her or medical advancements will allow.

I had a big birthday last year, and Van lives in LA, so she couldn’t come. She sent a stripper in her place. They called him Magic Spike. He was a Viking themed stripper, because of course they exist. He had a terrifying weapon – in more ways than one.

I must have checked my room four times when I was packing to make sure I didn’t leave anything behind, but I don’t feel like anyone has truly invented a suitcase that can safely transport a holiday romance back to reality.

My Review:

I doubt anyone could claim to have solved or foreseen the well-contrived secrets to this enjoyable and amusing tale, as there were several clever twists and blind alleys to navigate. And I delighted in them all as I smirked my way through this fun and wittily penned dance of exes. The premise was bright and shiny as were the wily plotting and wry humor. The characters were an enticing yet not totally likable bunch from the outside looking in, but things were not always as they seemed as several participants of a lavish destination-wedding holiday were walking a crooked path of denials, half-truths, and hidden agendas. There were frequent surprises and some will they/won’t they tease and tension to keep us guessing.

I confess to not really knowing where to start with this book, having derived so much pleasure from reading it. A superlative read, with interesting, quirky characters; an hilarious romantic novel, full of gasping (this cannot really be happening) moments! A book packed to the beams with laughter and romance, that you are sure to enjoy. This book is full of awful coincidences – they just keep on tumbling along, one after the other! If a character has an unfortunate ex, you can almost guarantee they’ll turn up in the next chapter! Charles and Di’s ( yes, really, Charles and Di – unfortunate or what!?) wedding week is so packed full of unfortunate circumstances, their relationship is surely destined for failure?

Don’t start reading this book before you go to bed; you will invariably stay up all night, revelling in it’s humour, romance and awkward ‘oh no- surely not’ moments! Even thinking about them will give you the giggles!

Peach enjoys the finer things in life, and thanks to her job as a mystery shopper, she is able to experience these finer things, without having to think about the associated costs. That is until she unfortunately orders an exobsive bitter of wine on room service, by mistake. She is close to her family and they are used to hearing about her fictional fiancé, Matthew, who comes into play while she is producing reports on various wedding venues.

Life is also looking good for Peaches, in that her Sister, Di, has agreed to move in with her, so she will be able to afford carrying on living in her town centre apartment.

I confess to having a laugh out loud moment when, whilst waiting for her Sister’s flight, Peach meets Matt, who is just the uncanniest match for her ‘fiancé’ Matthew, even down to his occupation! A late flight due to strikes, leads to Peach inviting Matt to dinner; he drinks too much and the hotel is full, so Peach invites him to spend the night in her suite, where one thing invariably leads to another………and unfortunately to Matt having just gone, the next morning, as though nothing had happened. Peach has been ‘ghosted’. Still, Peach doesn’t have too long to dwell on her dilemma; it is surpassed by the news that not only has Di met a man, who has proposed after a week, but that the realisation that her Sister is going to be one half of a couple – ‘Charles and Di’ in 2 weeks time!

Surely, reader, things can’t get any worse for Peach? You might want to believe that, but when Peach gets to meet Charles, it transpires that he was the first person she ever slept with, as a teenager; and to add insult to injury, he clearly has no recollection of her at all, let alone having bullied her mercilessly over the incident!

Fast forward to the airport, ready to fly out to the wedding in Italy, and Peach has cocked things up by inviting Di’s ex, Alex, who broke her heart, instead of Di’s friend Lex, and she bumps into one night stand Matt who naturally, turns out to be Charles’ best man! Talk about a knot of vipers!

So many questions to be answered, so many tangles in this web of relationships! Can Peach get things together with Matt? Does she want to? Does Di really love Charles, or does she still harbour feelings for Alex?

You will find out the answers to these questions and more, when you read the book for yourself, but be prepared for laughs and ‘oh no!’ moments aplenty, along the way.

After being ill for weeks and unable to focus or read anything, I picked up Life’s a Beach in the hope of reading a few chapters and I didn’t stop until I reached 75% and couldn’t keep my eyes open. It was the perfect book to get me back into reading.
Penelope (Peach) is having a complete dilemma. She’s had to move back in with her parents, her sister is marrying someone she has known for a week and she has made a major mistake at work. Her hopes that a holiday in Italy for the wedding will provide some respite are soon dashed when she realises just how complicated everything is going to be.
I loved the character of Peach and very quickly became invested in her and her journey. Every time I thought she’d solved or come to terms with one problem another one reared its head for her to deal with. She was such sweet woman and I loved how everything she did was to support or protect her sister. The chemistry between Peach and Matthew was evident from the start and just leapt off the page. I also loved Van, Peach and Di’s cousin.
The setting was just beautiful. I’d love to be whisked away to an all expenses paid, private villa like in this book and it gave the whole plot a really romantic and luxurious feel.
I adored this novel (I love all Portia’s stories) and it was simply perfect for easing me back into reading again. Highly recommended for romance fans who like a sprinkle of humour and a lot of dilemmas.

This is my first book by Portia and it won’t be my last. The main character, Peach has a very interesting job, a mystery shopper, hey, I would love to do that versus my day job of recruiting! Anyways Peach, being the spontaneous girl that she is, ends up meeting the desirable Matt and ends up going back to her hotel with him, let’s leave it at that! This is PG blog! 😂😂.

He ditches her the following morning and she is a bit baffled but goes on her way to meet her sister Di, who is getting married to Charlie, but wait for it, the best man, MATT! Small world isn’t it.

The writing and humor is impeccable!

Life's A Beach by Portia MacIntosh is a fun romance. I really enjoy Ms. MacIntosh books, and this book does not disappoint. Peach is excited to go to her sister's destination wedding in Italy, but she's worried that her sister hasn't known the groom for long. When Peach accidentally invites her sister ex to the wedding, things get interesting. I found this book to be funny, and perfect for a lighthearted escape. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. I highly recommend this book.

Penelope's world is a non-stop rollercoaster of fun, misunderstandings and romance in a glamorous Italian island setting. Told from Penelope's viewpoint, the reader experiences her self-deprecating humour and innermost emotions, which makes her easy to empathise with and like. Relatable characters enhance a plot that is full of secrets and twists.

It's a perfect beach read addictive but lighthearted. Perfect for those of us who like our romance full of conflict, fun and passion.

I read the synopsis for ‘Life’s A Beach’ and it certainly sounded like just the kind of read that I needed at that time. I was feeling a little low and in need of a light hearted and fun read. Well ‘Life’s A Beach’ certainly ticked those boxes and then some. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Life’s A Beach’ but more about that in a bit.
The main character in ‘Life’s A Beach’ is a young lady called Peach. Peach is just so lovely but things for her don’t often turn out like they should. Peach is a ‘mystery shopper’ and it just sounds like the ideal sort of job in that she goes around visiting hotels as a guest and assesses the facilities, the food, the service and the staff. Peach is close to her family and she has a sister, who is also her best friend. Peach is supposed to be picking her sister up from the airport but things take an unexpected turn and she ends up spending time having much more fun than standing in an airport. Peach’s sister ends up getting engaged and it’s when Peach meets #TeamGroom that she gets another surprise. What is the surprise? Will Peach find her ‘happy ever after’ ending? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out was I am not going to tell you.
I can honestly say that I haven’t laughed as much as I did whilst reading ‘Life’s A Beach’ in a long, long time. I started chuckling away from early on in the story and I didn’t stop chuckling until long after I had finished reading the story. I picked the book up only intending to make a start on it and read a couple of chapters. There was one problem, I started reading and I just couldn’t stop. I loved the character of Peach and I just had to keep reading to see how the story turned out for her. I became so wrapped up in the story hat I lost all track of time and I lost track of how quickly I was getting through the story. I found ‘Life’s A Beach’ to be a gripping read, which held my interest from start to finish.
‘Life’s A Beach’ is extremely well written. Portia certainly knows how to grab your attention and draw you into one hell of a light hearted and funny story. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly fast pace throughout. I love the way in which Portia creates such lovable characters and she describes them so vividly that they seem to jump off the page and they seem just as realistic as you and I. I love the way in which Portia makes the reader feel part of the story and at the centre of the action. ‘Life’s A Beach’ was unputdownable and a true page turner.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Life’s A Beach’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Portia’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Once again, Portia starts this book with an engaging opening that leaves you needing to know how the situation is going to pan out. In this case, a chance meeting at an airport between Matt and Peach gets complicated quickly. But is this a sign of an attraction that can overcome the “bumps in the road” and become something more?

I have had no idea where this one was going. As this is written from a first person perspective, and the story is told by loyal, hard working and fun Peach. I have been rooting for her happiness throughout.

At first, Matt seems like the perfect gentleman. He is sensible, honest, witty and it seems like the two will make a good match. However, there is twist after twist, and at her sister’s wedding, Peach is confronted with a number of men who could be eligible bachelors, though I have loved how she sees flaws or has suspicions about them, as this adds a realism to be the book. Portia also shows her skills by being able to create such a big cast of vibrant and interesting characters.

There has been so many twists and dramatic plot points in this book and it has definitely kept me hooked.

The ending was wonderfully uplifting and heartwarming and could even be seen to be a bit of a cliffhanger, which I loved!

Overall, another wonderful escapist read by one of my favourite authors. I definitely recommend it!

I know, I know, I might be starting to repeat myself with each new Portia MacIntosh’s book review I write, but it is the absolute truth. Each and every one of them is a pure delight to read and Life’s a beach could not be different. It is adorable!

I have yet to meet a Portia MacIntosh leading lady that I don’t like. Peach was a really nice character, witty, fun, realistic, lovable, supporting her sister even when she had reasons to do the exact opposite. Her first encounter with Matt was so charming I could not wipe the smile off my face while reading it. Also, where does one apply for a job like that? Asking for a friend!

Soon the story turns into a sitcom with lots of funny and crazy characters, with everyone seeming to have a past relationship with another and hiding some secrets, leading to a whole series of misunderstandings. I loved most of the characters, even those I thought I would dislike at first. I was the first one surprised by Charles growing on me!

The setting was absolutely gorgeous. All the island descriptions made me wish I was there (I would have eaten those calamari, thank you very much!).

If Peach and Matt first encounter was charming, their last one went out of the adorability charts!.

The writing style was so enjoyable and fresh. Everything moved at a perfect pace providing a really fun and entertaining read. Although there were lots of characters and their current and past relationships to keep track of, both the characters and plot lines were so engaging that it was not a problem at all.

Life’s a beach (I adore the title, btw) is the perfect summer read even in spring!

„Life’s a Beach“ introduces us to Peach who has a very interesting job – she’s a mystery shopper, who visits shops, hotels, restaurants and other wedding venues incognito to write a review about them later. This time she’s about to dine and sleep in a hotel at the airport, and she was supposed to visit it with her sister that was about to come back home from her holidays but her flight is now delayed. Peach invites spontaneously Matt, whom she met at the airport and who was waiting for a friend but this friend also didn’t show up. Phew. They hit it off very well and things led them to Peach’s hotel room, however, the next day, she wakes up alone, without a note or a goodbye.
Enter Di, Peach’s sister, who’s just arrived home with the news that in a week time she’s going to marry Charlie whom she met on her holidays. Another phew.
What’s worse, it turns out that Peach knows Charlie. What’s even worse, Matt, the one who ghosted her, is Charlie’s best man. Oh my.

I liked the idea for the plot very much, I love books that feel like comedy of errors and it was like this with „Life’s a Beach“. I didn’t think it was overdone, as it could easily happen, however there were too many coincidences for my liking. Though of course all those mix – ups and the fact that almost everybody in the wedding party shared a history, ranging from being ex/or first – boyfriends or girlfriends, being ghosted or even one – night stands were what made the book so entertaining, so I’m really not complaining here, no worries 

I think that Portia MacIntosh’s characters grow up in each new book – they are still sassy, quirky and confident, taking no prisoners young women but in my opinion they are also this little bit more reliable and more adult without losing their sassiness. I liked the characters in this book, they were full of esprit and relatively close to life strong personas. Peach herself was cool, strong – headed, independent and not giving a shit about what others think about her, but she was also very caring and I loved the relationship between her and her sister and cousin.

The writing style is full of sunshine, it flows so nicely and smoothly and is filled with humour and wit. The banter is sharp and funny and feels real. The setting was gorgeous, the descriptions of the island were so vivid, bringing all the places to life. Even though it was filled to brims with events and action, there was something happening all the time, more or less embarrassing, it still was an easy and entertaining read, absolutely! Those many characters in one place, all of them with a history, hiding secrets, well, it was begging for a disaster, right? But a funny and light – hearted disaster.

“Life’s a Beach“ was funny, light and easy to read romance with a bit of drama thrown in. There is sun, heat, sea, delicious food, idyllic location, some incredibly hilarious things happening, the best banter between the well developed characters and hot romance mixed with poignant moments. If you need something light - hearted and uplifting, Portia MacIntosh is your person in charge. Recommended!

Helping plan her sisters whirlwind wedding at an exotic Italian island resort should be a dream, if only Peach didn't mess up big time by accidently inviting her sisters ex. If this was not enough her new brother-in-law-to-be's best friend so happens to be the very same guy that Peach just spent a steamy night together with only to wake up to find him gone!

••

However all hope is not lost as their cousin Van has flown in from L.A for the wedding. With a bit of back up now Peach is fully ready to help make this the best week for her sister, even though she feels things are moving way to fast. But with ex's popping up at every turn and the two sisters having both shared one of said guy with will Peach do especially when she can't help but be drawn to Matt.

••

Oh this was one dramatic read from start to end and I loved every single second of it! Peach was just amazing and the cute little romance between her and Matt was just perfect. I really enjoyed that this was not just a romance but also focused on the ups and downs of life.

••

I absolutely loved the way this book opened and the way Peach cooks up her own little stories for her mystery shopper job and the way Matt just went with it, also talk about a brilliant coincidence that her dream guy and Matt share the same name and similar jobs??

••

The combination of budding romance coupled with the awkwardness of having so many ex's at the same event made for some entertaining little moments. I do have to say the connection between Peach and Matt was electric right from their first meeting and watching them continue to hit road bump after bump of miscommunication only made the ending all that more sweet!

••

McIntosh is definitely a go to author for me and her latest book is definitely one I would recommend reading
