I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Delightful story about a lobster boat with an enemies-to-lovers angle. On one hand we have a young man who really wants his chance to become a lobsterman and is hoping to buy the business when Whitaker retires. However, Whitaker has an only child, a daughter who has never expressed interest in the business—until she hears Oliver wants it! Anyone but Oliver!—She’ll take the business and figure out lobstering. Seasickness or not!

Meg is definitely plucky and it’s no surprise to the reader when her father decides to ask the two of them to work together over the season before he makes his final decision. After all, she needs to know about the business and how it works before her father will consent to give it to her.

I really enjoyed the story and the little subplots in the book as well.

18+ for a lot of flirty thoughts. They spend a night alone together on the boat although the third employee could walk in at any time; nothing physical happens. Otherwise nothing objectionable.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

This is my first Liz Johnson book and now I will be reading her back list until she writes her next one! This is a great example of how Christian Fiction should be written - there are amazing characters ( who are flawed ), a beautiful setting ( Prince Edwards Island ), and good examples of what Christians are really like ( not perfect, but seeking God - Not preachy at all ).

Although this book is centered around Lobster fishing - the fishing was woven into the story of the relationships. Those relationships should be treasured and forgiveness are both at the center of this story.

This is the first in the series and I am really excited about going back to Prince Edwards Island to read Eli's story and peek into Meg and Olivers lives again.

Beyond the Tides by Liz Johnson is book 1 in the Prince Edward Island Shores Series. Set in one of my favorite places on earth, I could not wait to read this book. The story itself was really interesting, with Meg's struggle to take over the family business while competing with Oliver for the job. I found their story really interesting. The only thing I would have liked would be more of the island featured in the book. Otherwise, it was a great read. I received a digtal copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

There’s lots to love in Beyond the Tides, the first book in Liz Johnson’s Prince Edward Island Shores series. The historic seaport setting of Victoria on Prince Edward Island in Canada is quaint and pretty. I loved reading the Anne of Green Gables series when I was younger, and I’m drawn to stories that share the Prince Edward Island setting. I also enjoyed learning more about the everyday workings of a family owned lobster fishing fleet business. We meet a cast of interesting characters who live in the small and tight knit seaside community.

At times I found Meg’s stubbornness a little frustrating, especially her grudge against Oliver from a decade ago when they were at high school. That said, I know in real life that many people are like Meg and struggle to forgive and let go of long held grudges. Oliver was patient with Meg, and prepared to apologise, take responsibility, and right the wrongs from the past. The importance of forgiveness was a strong spiritual theme in the story.

The ‘I hate you’ romance trope isn’t my favourite, but I did empathise with Meg and her concerns for her mother’s health, and I understood why Oliver was keen to buy the family business from Meg’s father.

I recommend Beyond the Tides to contemporary romance readers who like the enemies-to-more romance trope with childhood friends reuniting in a small town seaside setting.

Beyond the tides the first book in the Prince Edward Shore Series by Liz Johnson started a little show for me. But after a few chapters it picked up and ended up enjoying. Meg Whitaker and Oliver Ross have a past so it's not insta love which is something I don't like. And since they technically didn't like each other in high school it's more like hate to love instead of friends to love another trope I don't care for. But I'll read hate to love or enemies to love any day of the week. But what I like most about Beyond the Tides and with most of Liz's books is the faith that is threaded through the story and the lessons that one learns why reading the book. I love that forgiveness is one of the main themes of the book and that it is something both the hero and heroine must learn to give. I look forward to the next book in the series the next Whitaker brother's story.

This was an interesting book. I know little too nothing about lobster tapping or fishing. A beautiful setting and interesting story, makes for a good book. The main characters have been in a conflict for years and are suddenly thrown together to decide who gets the business. Meg Whitaker gets sea sick just stepping into the boat. Now she’s going to trap lobsters! Oliver is patient and they begin to build a friendship amidst the competition. A journey to let go of the past and reconcile the future as Meg’s mom is very ill.

Growing up in the NorthEast made me really excited to read this book. I enjoyed most of it. Meg was a bit too impulsive for me at times but this is a solid read and I would recommend it.

Meg Whitaker adores teaching high school science in her tiny Prince Edward Island village of Victoria by the Sea. But when her mom’s failing health prompts her father to sell his lobster-fishing business, Meg can’t believe it. How could he let the family legacy go so easily? Even worse, how can he sell it to the guy who ruined her high-school science fair project and dashed her hopes of Ivy League scholarships?

As an only child, Meg feels the burden of not letting a legacy pass out of the family—even if she gets seasick just thinking about stepping onto a boat. But in her parents’ time of need, Meg knows she must overcome her doubts and do something about the family legacy. Even if it means giving up the job she loves.

After ten years, Oliver Ross can see hope on the horizon. Ever since his dad walked out and left the family destitute, Oliver has struggled to regain respect in the small village that has no respect for his father. When his boss, Walt Whitaker offers to sell him the fishing license and the business with no interest, Oliver jumps at the chance. Walt has mentored Oliver like a son, and Oliver looks up to him as a father.

But when Meg, the girl whose dreams he dashed, shows up and claims she wants to buy the business, Oliver feels hope fading. Then Walt tells them they’ll need to work together through the next lobster season before he makes his final decision. Oliver knows he’ll have to finally apologize for the science fair fiasco and work hard at least getting along.

Will they last the season without drowning each other?

Why I Loved this Book

Johnson weaves a beautiful enemies-to-lovers tale set in PEI (and who wouldn’t love a book set in the fabled island of Anne of Green Gables?). Meg not only struggles to forgive Oliver, but she must navigate her mother’s mysterious illness and her role as a daughter and caregiver. The actions of Oliver’s father haunt the family ten years after he abandons them. Oliver must come to terms with his value as a child of God, not see himself as the child of a scoundrel. Fans of Emma St. Clair, Denise Hunter, and Lynn Austen will love this book.

“Beyond the Tides” is the latest offering by Liz Johnson, and it is a very good read. Meg Whitaker was a school teacher, but she could have been so much more. Now her father is considering selling the family’s lobster fishing business to the very man she blames for not having reached her life goals, Oliver Ross. When Meg expresses her interest in taking over the business, her father enters into a deal with Meg and Oliver that will force them to work together. This is a wonderful story of forgiveness and so much more.

Welcome back to Prince Edward Island where Meg and Oliver would consider themselves enemies of one another. Actually Meg is the one that pushes the whole enemy situation with Oliver. Due to an incident that happened at the science fair when they were both in high school, which ended up costing Meg some scholarships and awards. She still has not been able to forgive him.

Now her father has thrown a wrench into things. He wants to sell his lobster business to Oliver who has been working faithfully for him some years. Meg who never has had any interest in the business thinks this is a very bad idea. Meg also has some serious motion sickness which was getting mine going as I read this book, so how is she going to run the boats?

Her dad who is dealing with Meg's mother's mysterious illness, makes a deal with Oliver and Meg that they must work together and after that time he will then make his decision. But as Meg and Oliver work together, their relationship changes from enemy, to friend, to lover. But can Oliver believe he is good enough for Meg? And can Meg really trust and forgive Oliver?

This was a fun and swoony romance with some deeper topics like illness and abandonment. I enjoyed coming back to PEI for a visit and this is my new favorite author Johnson story.

Meg Whitaker had big plans for her life that involved advanced degrees and scientific research. Thanks to an impulsive decision by a classmate, she already had to scale down her dreams. But when her mom falls ill with an unknown disease, she moves back to her hometown to become a teacher at her alma mater. To her surprise, she loves her job.

But now her Mom is getting progressively worse. Her Dad determines that it is time to pass on their generational business of lobstering to someone else. Meg feels like it should be her, but she gets seasick and hates touching the bait. Unwilling to concede, her Dad agrees to let her partner with Oliver, his longtime deck hand and intended heir. The only problem? She might dislike Oliver more than the water.

Will Meg learn that there is more to her legacy than lobstering? Will she come to rely on others? Can her faith grow even through tragedy?

I LOVED this first book in the Prince Edward Island Shores book by @lizjohnsonbooks Her research was impeccable as I really felt like I took on the job of lobstering. This a romance, but it also emphasizes the importance of family. The main characters learn to trust God through challenging circumstances. I highly recommend this book! A big thank you to @revellbooks for allowing me to read a copy through @netgalley All opinions are my own.

How on earth could her father ever consider selling the business that had been in the family for generations – especially to the man who had ruined her life? It didn’t matter that Meg Whitaker had no desire to run a lobster boat or that even being on a boat made her deathly ill. But there was no way she could allow Oliver Ross to take over the business. It just was not right! And that is how Meg ended up spending the season working with the man she avoided at all costs and she would never give up her grudge against him. Or would she?

In Beyond the Tides Liz Johnson takes her readers back to Prince Edward Island (PEI) for another warm, sometimes humorous, deliciously romantic, and brimming with faith tale. I loved the interaction between Meg and Oliver and the way they gradually became comfortable with each other almost without realizing it.

In this delightful story that is big on forgiveness, Meg and Oliver discover just how much they have in common and realize that her father knew exactly what he was doing. I loved taking another trip to PEI and hope that Johnson will book another visit for her readers soon.

Prince Edward Island. What woman who grew up reading Anne of Green Gables hasn't dreamed of visiting this small Canadian province? Although Liz Johnson has several books set on PEI, this was the first time I was able to read one of them.

This book centers around the lobster trade. Meg's father is ready to retire, especially with his wife's health failing. Though he has an agreement with Oliver Ross to purchase the business, Meg can't stand the thought of her family's legacy going into the hands of the nemesis from her teenage years.

Oliver can't believe that his dreams finally have the chance to come true. Life hasn't been kind and he hasn't always made the best choices, but at last he is on track to build the life he wants for himself. Only Meg Whitaker and her outrage stand in the way. Can he find a way to convince her he's not the same boy he was all those years ago?

I really wanted to like this book, but it just wasn't for me. Meg continually acted on impulse without any forethought, and she never won me over. The book also used some of my least favorite tropes. I believe many people would enjoy this story, but I kept being frustrated by the characters or plot twists. Please don't let my opinions stop you from reading this book if it sounds intriguing to you. Some of the things I disliked may be exactly what draws you in.

Meg Whitaker loves teaching and has no interest in managing a lobster-fishing company, not when she can’t even get close to the water without getting seasick. But when her father announces plans to sell the family business to the person who a decade ago shattered her dreams of a scholarship to an Ivy League school, Meg vows to do whatever it takes to keep the small fleet from falling into Oliver’s hands — even if it means getting back on a boat.

Oliver Ross has long regretted his actions in high school. Devastated by his father’s abandonment, he lashed out against the unfortunate person who happened to be within his reach, and it cost Meg her dreams. However, the chance to own a reputable fishing fleet on Prince Edward Island is no small feat and an opportunity he doesn’t intend to let pass without a fight.

The solution? Mr. Whitaker insists that Meg and Oliver join forces for one season at the end of which he will select the best one to take over after his retirement. Though less than thrilled, Meg sets out to prove she has what it takes to inherit the business while Oliver is determined to show her he’s not the person she remembers.

A story about family, forgiveness, and second chances, Liz Johnson transports her readers back to the breathtaking island just off the Canadian coast. Stuck in a dry spell in which everything I read failed to capture me, Beyond the Tides gripped me and refused to let go. The setting, the characters, the writing, everything ensured that I was in for the duration, reading it within twenty-four hours.

With a lesser author, Meg could have come across as vindictive and Oliver as a class-A jerk, but they didn’t. The protagonists were flawed, complex, and downright relatable. I connected with both, became invested in their stories, and rooted for them almost from the get-go.

Johnson masterfully brought the tale to life, guaranteeing that I experienced everything as though right there with the characters. Sometimes too well. As someone who has dealt with motion sickness her entire life, I had to keep reminding myself that I was firmly planted on my bed or couch and not really feeling queasy. Thankfully, her vivid portrayal translated to other areas as well. I could hear the sounds of the boat on the water, smell the fish-laden brine, and see the beautiful coastal town for myself. Born and raised by the sea but landlocked the past three plus years, this couldn’t have made me happier.

I loved the Prince Edward Island Dreams series, and Beyond the Tides promises to be the start of an equally captivating new series,. I recommend this book to fans of romances with depth and magical backdrops.
