I’ve read several of Liz Johnson’s books, and this is the best one yet. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked Meg, but once Meg and Oliver are thrown together their banter and the tension between them makes for an entertaining tale—along with their family stories. I love how Meg’s strong character softens when it comes to her parents. And Oliver’s determination to overcome his family’s history is inspiring. The setting is fantastic. I found myself drawn into the lobster business on Prince Edward Island and enjoying the trips out to set traps and haul in the catch. Meg’s dad is a delight as he helps her mom in his gentle, caring way. As soon as I would stop reading Beyond the Tides, I would miss the characters and want to read more. Now that I’ve finished, I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. Available August, 3, it’s a perfect end of summer read. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A terrific sweet romance. I may have said sweet, but it is actually quite rocky. Lots of history to the couple's antagonism. Changes in their lives cause upheaval. A few tears may be shed. A few surprises. I am eager to read Eli's story next. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley.

Once again we’re visiting PEI the beauty, the breeze and the charm of this tiny island. We have a father wanting and needing to sell his lobster business, they are in high demand, and his daughter didn’t want it.
His deck hand and his daughter’s arch nemesis did want it, for a family and a further. Now, when he has a buyer, one he trusts, she decide she does, As a wise father he offers for them to work the season together and then he will decide who will be the new owner.
Oliver and Meg have a tremulous past, the lost of dreams and hurts. This will give them time for forgiveness and new beginnings.
Have read others by her and again she has given us a memorable story on the island of PEI. A good heartwarming plot to enjoy.

“She looked like she could pilot this morning, arms crossed as she stared out to sea. The sun was almost up, but the lights on the dock illuminated her. Hair pulled back, braided, and roped into a knot at the nape of her neck, she was practically a Viking princess.”

Just when I think I’m getting over my obsession of visiting Prince Edward Island, Liz Johnson reels me back. She brings another book to her readers about this amazing island. This time she takes the perspective of working on the ocean in a family lobster fishing business. I found it totally enthralling. As always, PEI captures my heart and imagination. I love how Johnson brings this island to life in her writing. So here I am, back to dreaming of PEI.

“Meg Whitaker, you’ve been holding out on me.” She laughed—the rich, sweet sound he always had to work so hard for. If this was work, he’d sign up for a lifetime of it.”

The chemistry and romance between Oliver and Meg was charming. This enemies to more story captured my heart. However, it was not a light romance as there was much from their past to overcome, as well as the worry that comes with a sick parent. However, it greatly touched my heart and Johnson’s approach was encouraging and inspirational. This novel has a depth and beauty that will steal your heart.

“…We’re also promised that our hope in God is an anchor in those storms. He’ll hold us steady even in the wind and the waves.”

Thank you for Netgalley and Revell publication for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my thoughts. All opinions are my own.

I picked up this book as I love the front cover, it looks so lovely and serene. It follows the story of Meg Whitaker, her Father runs a small fleet of lobster boats and when he decides to hand his business on to her arch rival Oliver who has worked alongside him for years, she will do whatever she can to prove the business should go to her. Even is she knows nothing about fishing and get suffers from sea sickness.

This is a book about family, friendship and forgiveness. The are parts of the book that are quite sad as Meg and her parents deal with her Mums debilitating illness. But the family dynamics and the growing relationship between Meg and Oliver are lovely to read about. As as the authors descriptions about the fishing port and the residents of Prince Edward Island.

I haven't actually read anything by the author before, but I will definitely look out for her upcoming works, and look forwards to reading the upcoming in this new series.

Beyond The Tides is the beginning of a new series set on the beautiful Prince Edward Island. The sea, bridges and docks are almost as much of a character as are Meg and Oliver. Both MC's grow up on the island and Meg returns taking a job as a school teacher when there are issues with her mothers health. She has long held a grudge against Oliver for an incident in high school. Oliver is hard working and devoted to taking care of his mother and brother. Meg's dad announces his plans to sell his lobster business to Oliver. When Meg says she might want it he suggests they work together together and he will decide who deserves it.

This is a clean women's fiction novel. It is also good Christian fiction with talk of faith and higher purposes. There is also forgiving and healing along with changes for both characters. I felt the most for Meg as she works so hard to learn the lobster business and still find time to spend with her mother.

Slight spoiler below:
One thing that made me not give five stars is I found it very annoying that Meg is manipulated so much. The main plot of the contest makes no sense to me. Meg gives up her career for this years lobster season. In the school district I work in if a teacher left after contracts are signed they would be forever barred from working in the entire district let alone the school. Also by setting up the contest she is manipulated out of time she can spend with her mother before she worsens. What was the dad's plan if there wasn't a romance? Did he really not need the money from selling the boat? Couldn't he have waited another year to sell and let Oliver be in charge of the boat for the season? There were so many plot holes about the contest it is amazing to me I only took off one star.

I'm still glad to have read book and look forward to Eli's story which is introduced in a brief preview. Thank you to NetGalley and Revell for an ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.

In 'Beyond the Tides' author Liz Johnson once again sweeps the reader back to magical Prince Edward Island—with its tall lighthouse glowing across the shimmering waves, colorful shanties at the end of the dock lighting the inky sky, and the smell of fried fish wafting through the air!

Frankly I couldn't wait to return PEI, but wasn't sure I would be interested in a novel about a lobster fishing fleet. Ha! I didn't realize I was setting sail on an emotional, heart-tugging, turbulent journey with two of the most stubborn characters ever, Meg Whitaker and her nemesis, Oliver Ross.

It took awhile for Meg to grow on me as she initially appears bitter and super ungracious, and Oliver comes off as a self-serving louse—until he doesn't. What a guy...I even fell in love with his ears! lol Everyone has their story and both characters realize they have more in common than they thought. Will love, understanding, and forgiveness help to heal their wounds?

Another beautifully written book I had been so looking forward to and Liz Johnson certainly doesn't disappoint! Beautifully descriptive with colorful characters 'Beyond the Tides' is one novel you don't want to miss!

This read quickly became a page turner, and a story about lobster boats, well, actually it is much more than that.

The pain and ridicule of the sins of a father, Oliver endured this, and his acting out in his hurt affected a young girl and her science project.

Fast forward and now Meg's father wants to sell his lobster business to this guy that wrecked her future, or did he?

Now Meg is willing to do anything to get her father to give her the business, including enduring sea sickness, good thing there are now patches. We are there to see her as she takes on the job of running the boat, using her unknown muscles, and learning from her nemesis!

There are surprises revealed, so keep page turning, and enjoying, and I am excited there is another book coming!

I received this book through the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

This was a well written, good story. It did not fully captivate me. I put it down to read other books but I would recommend to others.

When I found out that Liz Johnson was returning her readers to Prince Edward Island in her upcoming series, I couldn't wait to dive into it. Beyond the Tides is a beautiful, heart wrenching contemporary that will pull at the heartstrings of every reader who chooses to pick it up, and is what I believe is going to be the start of an amazing new series.

Meg and Oliver haven't spoken in ten years, and honestly, both of them would have been content to keep it that way. However, when Meg finds out that her father intends to sell the family's lobster fishing business to Oliver, she refuses to stand by and watch it happen. The two make a deal with her dad: they work together for this season, and he'll make a decision about who deserves the business at the end of it. At first, the only sparks flying are ones of anger and bitterness, but soon both start to see something in the other they never expected to find, and it leaves them wondering if they could ever possibly truly put the past behind them in order to look forward to a future together.

With a setting that speaks volumes of the beauty and heritage of one of Canada's most sought after vacation destinations, an emphasis on faith and trusting Him through all the ups and downs, and a heartfelt romance that truly feels both authentic and original at the same time, Beyond the Tides is another mesmerizing tale from one of my favorite authors, and one that I will be highly recommending.

I loved the romance, the familial tension that sets up plotlines for future stories, the way grief is portrayed in how Meg and her father have to come to terms with her mother's illness, and the surprise twist at the end I never could have seen coming. With so many Christian contemporaries having been a disappointment this year, I'm so thankful that Liz Johnson's upcoming release definitely wasn't, and I can't wait to read more from this series in the future.

As a side note, as someone who has been born and raised in Canada and can't stand Tim Horton's, I always find it so funny when books set in Canada include the characters being addicted to their coffee. It made me laugh, and is probably pretty accurate for a large amount of Canadians.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Thanks so much to Revell for allowing me to read and review this!

Beyond the Tides by Liz Johnson

Wow, I already love this series and I’ve only read this first book! Liz Johnson has penned a winner with this the first in her new Prince Edward Island Shores series.
I loved the learning about the lobster fishing industry, it was so interesting. And her descriptions of the Prince Edward Island fishing community were wonderful.
I loved that Oliver was not your perfect hero and that Meg was not a tough heroine.
This is a story of regrets. How one painful incident can color an entire life. A unique story of grudges, hope, acceptance, secrets, family and forgiveness.
My favorite quote:
“Sometimes when the pain is too loud, all we can hear is the person crying with us. and that sounds a lot like love.”

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

Beyond the Tides is a very well-written inspirational romance that we don't find all that often. This book has a wonderful storyline and the storytelling is amazing, with characters that are not only believable, but the story was interesting. Liz Johnson outdid herself on this book.

Liz Johnson’s books have been on my TBR for a while. The covers of her books are eye catching, the locations of the books are dreamy spots and the books sound amazing. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to read Beyond the Tides, her newest book and the first in a new series. I was so excited to read about this small town in Prince Edward Island and all the talk of lobstering was fun (especially since I read this book while in Maine!). I enjoyed meeting Meg and Oliver. The tension between them is high after a grudge that has lasted many years. They both find themselves in a position that is uncomfortable given their history. There were some heavier moments in the book dealing with Meg’s mom and her sickness. But I really enjoyed this story! I can’t wait to read more in this series, and check out her other books!

I never pictured myself reading about the lobster business, yet Liz Johnson actually made me interested! It's an original storyline, and the beginning of a new trilogy featuring the Ross brothers, each of whom carries hurt in a different way. In this chapter, Meg and Oliver, lifelong enemies, are put together in an attempt to save the Whittaker family legacy. The two have to learn to put past hurts aside, let go of grudges, and offer forgiveness as they work to save the fishing license. They are also dealing with grief and loss throughout the story. There's a bit of mystery, a little romance, and a lot of drama. In the back pages, we also get a sneak peek into the next chapter of this family story...

Beyond the Tides by Liz Johnson os an excellent contemporary fiction that is the first book in what I expect will be an amazing series: Prince Edward Island Shores.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was excited to start a new series with her. I have to say I am now a huge fan and look forward to the rest of the books in this series in the future.

The author’s ability to describe this wonderful seaside town and its inhabitants is definitely impressive. The full character cast, their backgrounds, and their interactions were realistic, complex, and easy to follow.

I enjoyed the main characters of Meg Whitaker and Oliver Ross. Their inner struggles, their external issues, and their complicated relationship made for an excellent narrative. I enjoyed the way that they were able to eventually confront, work through, and overcome their pasts so that they could find forgiveness and a future.

The fundamental concepts of family, love, loss, friendship, forgiveness, moving on, faith, and acceptance was perfectly addressed. I loved this book and can’t wait to see where this series goes.
