So why is she wearing the locket, and what happened to the missing child from all those years ago? . Kay knows she must solve the kidnapping in order to untangle the mystery of the dead body.

This is a well-written novel,,, full of action. Suspense starts on the very first page and maintains a high level throughout. The characters are deftly drawn and as in most small locations, there are plenty of suspects. Lies, secrets, cover-ups .. this one has it all. Although 2nd in the series and easily read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading the books in order. Book 1 has a lot of backstory on Kay and her current relationships.

This is the second book in the Detective Kay Sharp series but it could be read as a standalone. I enjoyed the first book especially the relationship between Kay and Elliot. It was funny, tense and had that teasing nature. This continued in this book but there was a lot less of these two in scenes together which made me sad. These two have a great dynamic and work well together.

Kay Sharp was as determined and forceful as ever in this book. There were multiple storylines going on in the book, you really had to take stock of what you knew and where everything was going. I think it was purposely designed this way to make you stop and work out what was going on.

I loved the chapter headings and the different POV in the book. The book was very easy to read and I easily read half of this book in one go.

One thing I will say is there were very little in the way of surprises for me. I guessed much of the story very early on. I was however gripped because I needed to know if I was right. I wanted that smug satisfaction of working it all out. Leslie did throw a few spanners in there that I didn't catch and thinking back I should have. I liked that even though I thought I knew what was going on I could still be a little bit surprised.

I hope there will be more to come from Kay and the rest of the Mount Chester group as I'm not quite ready to say goodbye to these characters yet!

This book is fast paced, thrilling, suspenseful and has twists and turns all throughout the book.

I was not disappointed with this installment and the story just keeps on getting better and better.

This well paced, enthralling crime thriller starts with a date the couple will never forget – one in an idyllic, isolated location where he starts to propose just before she starts to scream…. They have inadvertently discovered the body of a murdered young girl.

Kay Sharp, a doctor who worked as a member of the San Francisco FBI field office, has moved back to her hometown of Mount Chester where she is working for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department as a detective. She and her new partner, Deputy Elliot Young, are called to investigate the murder. However, nothing is straightforward in this investigation.

There are links to the past, secrets to uncover, a kidnapping, a runaway to be found as well as a serial killer and other unexpected perpetrators to be discovered. It really is a gripping page turner, another fascinating, twisted story which keeps you engrossed till the very end. It is a great addition to this crime thriller series and I can’t wait to read more featuring Kay Sharp in future.

This second book in Leslie Wolfe's Detective Kay Sharp series was certainly not a disappointment! It is told from various points of view but primarily from Kay's and Kirsten's, a runaway teenager whose disappearance is being investigated by Detective Elliot Young, Kay’s partner-in-crime. The murder and the runaway are the main threads of the story, though other strands feed into these narratives and contribute to the final flabbergasting revelations.

I love Leslie Wolfe's writing style and found it hard to tear myself away from this book. I am really excited to read more in this series going forward. It was a pleasure to read Beneath Blackwater River complete with its terrific finale and I highly recommend it.

2nd in the Kay Sharp series. It can stand alone but there is a pivotal piece of information in the first book that was not mentioned here so I would recommend reading the first book first.

Kay is now a detective back home having given up her FBI profiling career. She is involved in a case of a murdered young woman. But of course it was all more complicate than that. Though to me the complication was pretty obvious early on.

It’s a run quick read.

Just brilliant. Packed with tense and thrilling twists and turns. A suspenseful read that had me glued to the page. Great writing, relatable characters. A book and series that stands out from the rest.

Alongside this story there’s Kirsten who has run away from home, but after accepting a lift, has ended up being held prisoner.
The storylines seem different but Leslie Wolfe cleverly pulls all the threads together to give a great conclusion.
I really enjoyed this book which is the second in the series.

I read Book #1 of the Kay Sharp series – The Girl From Silent Lake, and absolutely loved it! After the Josie Quinn Series, this might be my next favorite series! I hope Leslie Wolfe keeps this series alive ’cause what a whirlwind!

This can be read as a stand-alone but I recommend starting with Book 1 as you might miss some important storylines. This book is told from different POVs and it contained multiple storylines that weaved together in the end. The story was executed beautifully! I did not suspect a thing!

In addition, I really loved the relationship development between Kay and Elliot; I do love romance and mystery mixed together! I’m looking forward to Book 3 to see what else happens and what will happen between Kay and Elliot.

This book is definitely a gripping and fantastic story! Highly recommend.

What an excellent book! I could not put it down. So action packed, and trying to figure out how everything went together was not easy.

This one might be even better than the first. Kay and Elliot are back and things are intense. There are several cases going and a large cast of characters. Just when you think you have it figured out the author throws a wrench in your thinking and you're left questioning everything again. I think this is just the beginning of what will be a long running series. We are just scratching the surface of Kay and I want more of the slow burning romance that looks to be brewing.

What a roller coaster ride!!!

This is the second book of the Detective Kay Sharp series and just like the first book, this book did not leave me with disappointment!! It was soooo good!!!!

A body of a teenage girl was found by the river and was identified that as Rose Harrleson who went missing fourteen years ago, as she was wearing the same locket. But then later on the media speculated that the body was indeed belong to Alyssa Caldwell, the heiress of Caldwell farms in California. Biggest question--how did Rose's locket ended up in Alyssa's hands? Meanwhile, a serial killing is taking place with a man abducting runaways from the highway.

Just like the first book, this book was unputdownable with twists and turns in each chapter that you didn't even expect!!! I was so hooked into the story that I didn't even realized I have finished the book until I came to the ending!!! It was really good! The author does an amazing job with her writing skill and knows how to keep the reader hooked into the story. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride with Detective Kay and her partner Detective Elliot who actually became my favorite characters in the book. The ending to me was unpredictable (which is what I like in a good thriller) and unexpected. It was really good!

Overall, an unputdownable thriller filled with twists and turns that will keep you up all night reading! Quiet a thrill ride with this book! Worth five stars!

This is the first book I have read by this author. It is the second book in the 'Detective Kay Sharp' series but can be read as a standalone.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis. It also stated in the synopsis that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni and Kendra Elliot'. I am a huge fan of Lisa and Kendra and their books so am looking forward to see if it lives up to this. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 58 chapter. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Mount Chester, Canada 🇨🇦.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Detective Kay Sharp and Detective Elliot Young. There are also a few chapters from an u sub's POV. The benefits of third person perspective especially with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

'Beneath Blackwater River' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Leslie discusses kidnapping, murder, rape and more.

Wow!!! What an absolutely page turning psychological thriller!!!! Extremely well written with vivid descriptions it also contains some chapters that take you back to the past so you can see what previously happened to lead to everything.

Although this book is the second book in the series it can be easily read as a standalone which is what I did. I will however be reading the first book which is called 'The Girl From Silent Lake' as I loved this one. This book wasn't just one storyline but several cases going on together. It was very well written so that it didn't confuse readers even though there was so much going on. It kept be completely on the edge of my seat biting my nails waiting for the next twist, of which there was many. The storyline is realistic, compelling and addictive. I was completely shocked not just once but several times and would not have guessed any of it so a huge well done to Leslie as it is getting harder and harder to surprise me and there's nothing worse than working everything out before 50%. The story ended perfectly and there were no strings left hanging, everything was explained and wrapped up nicely. Another pet hate of mine is when something is mentioned in a book and then it seems to have been forgotten about.

The fact that Leslie had done her research on police procedurals shined through and I was intrigued to learn about the statute of limitations. Another well done on doing research as again it really puts me off a book when the author hasn't done any research and so many simple mistakes are made.

It is always worrying when starting a new series as you have no idea who the characters are. It is very important for me to bond with not only the lead protagonists but strangely I find it important that I like the pathologist too. In this case the pathologist was Doc Whitmore and I am pleased to say that I really liked him and his personality. I love that there is a strong female lead and the fact that Kay is not only a Detective but a forensic psychologist also is fansicnating. It gives the reader the best of both worlds with her. I loved that Kay is a string kick butt woman but also empathetic and caring and I enjoyed watching her relationships with her brother, Elliot, Doc Whitmore and others. She is very intellectual and has a great personality. I love the fact that we get to read her thought processes while she was asking herself questions and going through theories. I really enjoyed Elliot's character also and found him to be caring while professional, friendly and fun. There is excellent dynamic in the team and its interesting to find out more about each of the characters. I really cannot wait to meet them all again in what promises to be a page turning explosive series.

Leslie Wolfe congratulations on what promises to be an extremely successful series and I'd like to welcome you to my favourite author list. I would love to see this turned into a movie and I eagerly await the next book and to meet the gang again.

Overall an absolutely addictive, compelling page turner that will shock you over and over again!!

WOW – what did I just read!!! That was an amazing ride – from marriage proposal, finding body in water, runaway kid, old kidnapping case, and much more … hold on to your seat and follow Kay Sharp (Detective with the local Sheriff’s Department and former FBI agent) and her Texas partner Detective Elliot Young as they work together to somehow makes sense of all this.
This is the 2nd book, and the only one I read so far (putting book 1 on my must read list!) and it was perfectly fine to read on its own, and looking forward to the next book!

There are times when a book's plot is so complex that it doesn't hurt to pause at the half way mark and ask. "what do we know?" Beneath Blackwater River is the latest novel from American novelist Leslie Wolfe (above), and is one such book. Firstly, the author herself. Her website says, "She creates unforgettable, brilliant, strong women heroes who deliver fast-paced, satisfying suspense, backed up by extensive background research in technology and psychology." The central figure in this book is former FBI profiler Kay Sharp. She is now working as a relatively junior detective in a California sheriff's department. Thus far in the book, we have, in no particular order:

• A young woman is found dead, her throat recently slashed, beneath the waters of a mountain river.
• She is initially mis-identified by investigating officers.
• One identity was that of a girl from a very poor home; the other girl comes from a rich family.
• In another part of the country, a teenage runaway is abducted by a mysterious man, known only as Triple-Dollar-Sign.
• Detective Kay Sharp is sheltering, in the home she shares with her brother, the battered wife of a fellow officer.
• The abusive officer is in the pay of an as-yet-unidentified person - with money.

Leslie Wolfe has, then, set several hares running, to use the venerable English metaphor. The rogue cop - Herb Scott - is a truly nasty piece of work, and seems to have half the Sheriff's Department under his thumb, as when his wife, Nicole, has reported her many beatings as a crime, nothing ever happens. The mis-identification of the murdered girl is a seemingly unsolvable mystery. Were there ever two girls, or are they one and the same? Does the conundrum stem from a complex inheritance issue involving the wealthy Caldwell family? The Caldwells are magnificently disfunctional, riven with bitterness and jealousy, and to spice matters up even more, there is the deadly whiff of incest in the air.

Meanwhile, the runaway teenager - Kirsten - has fallen into the hands of a psychopath who seems to have loved and lost a beautiful girl at some stage in the past; now, he seeks out young women who resemble his lost love; when, inevitably, they don't match up to his distorted memories, they are done away with. At the half way stage I was scratching my head to think how could Leslie Wolfe ever tie up the apparently unconnected story lines, but she does it with all the flourish of a stage magician dazzling the audience with a seemingly impossible sleight of hand. Readers who love a fast-moving melodrama will not be disappointed here.

Beneath Blackwater River is published by Bookouture, and will be available as a Kindle and an audiobook on 23rd April which, as I'm sure you're aware, is both St George's Day and the birthday of William Shakespeare.

A well plotted thriller with two parallel storyline brought together tying up all the threads. The family dynamics appear convoluted and the police investigation at places are sloppy. The narrative makes up for these glitches. Overall a good thriller.

Interesting thriller about Kay Sharp, a FBI profiler who is now living in her hometown and accepted a position at the local precinct. Here she is partnered with Elliott, a rugged Texan and partly the reason for Kay staying there.
This is the second book in a series and while there are some references to the previous book I didn't have any problem reading this as a stand-alone book.
There were 2 cases at the beginning of the book and the plot took a cleverly winding road tying all the loose ends together at the end. It was a very easy, fast read yet I felt the writer tried to put too many twists or ideas in the plot. In the end it were just a few too many coincidences for me and I felt like going: oh yes, ofcourse now that ties into that and the villain turns out to be... In my opinion the story would have been better if they stuck to one case in depth, instead dividing the plot, being too superficial with both and trying to get it all to fit together with a lot forced coincidences.

Still it's was a good enough read, just not great.

Tie your shoes, button your coat, put on a hat, buckle your seatbelt, whatever you can do to secure yourself. on this wild bumpy ride. This can be completely read as a standalone, but reading book one fleshes out the nuances, gives that tad more understanding as Kay questions herself while searching for a killer, You can read a book, or you can be in a book, Leslie Wolfe puts me in the book. Sometimes I am the victim and I am cringing, sometimes I am Kay and I look around my world and think push harder. Leslie has this formula where you think you know what's going on, maybe you do, but there will *always* be a twist or turn you didn't see coming, In this one I when we get to the end, and story lines are weaved together I thought hmmm. Ok and then wham, she jumps out and yells gotcha! Man, she did it again. I am so grateful to Bookouture for allowing me to receive this arc through NetGalley, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

First off I want to give a big thanks to the publisher Bookouture , author Leslie Wolfe and to NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour as well as letting me read and review it , plus other up side is I get to continue on with a series I'm loving.Just like the first one it was non stop and I just didn't want to stop reading but there was times I had to since I came down with a cold and didn't feel like reading so everyday I would try to read a few pages a day , and I'm so glad I did, because this is one book I didn't want to miss out on, its was twisted in a way that it kept you guessing on what was going to happen next, and the plot was well written that it seemed to flow right off the pages and come to life.
