A super romance about finding yourself and your own self worth in sunny Croatia. A five star read. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.

Most people travel to Croatia for its endless sunshine, pebbly beaches and crystal clear sea. Kate goes there to disappear. She needs to escape from a life that has fallen apart in spectacular and public fashion, and no one on the beautiful island of Hvar knows who she is or what she's running away from. Until she meets another lonely soul. Alex is different to any man Kate has ever known, yet the connection between them is undeniable. She soon begins to open up in ways she never has before - not even to herself. But Kate is not the only person in Hvar hiding secrets. And, as she is about to discover, it is always only a matter of time before the truth catches up with you.

Get ready to be swept away by 'The Getaway' and discover Kate and Alex's story, experience the beauty of Croatia and fall in love with this ultimate summer read. Broom had me hooked from the start, we begin with an awful situation for Kate that results in her needing to find escape. She heads to Croatia to find just that but will she find more than she bargained for? I just adored Kate, Alex and their story. Broom has created two extremely likeable characters and the situation is so realistic, I could not help but imagine it happening to people I knew. The realistic nature of the plot makes everything more emotional. The plot is just stunning; full of humour, laughter and love as well as pain, torment and a darker side. This read had everything and more and I was absolutely hooked by it.

Broom does a spectacular job of transporting the reader to Croatia. I could imagine I was there and where else would be better to be than sunny, beautiful Croatia. I can really see this being the perfect summer read.

'The Getaway' is a thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish. Kate and Alex have an exquisite story and the setting of Croatia is just perfect. If you read one romance this summer, make it this one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an advance copy.

What a perfect getaway read this is.
After a very embarrassing moment right at the start of the book, poor Kate escapes from going viral on twitter after losing everything.
Croatia is perhaps an unlikely setting but one full of colour (exceeded with Kate's eye for interior design) and the perfect escape.
A very unusual meet cute (no spoilers) and lots of crazy moments follow as she gets to know the area and the people in it much closer.
I really liked the sub-plot which weaves in and out of the book. I like how this shows the good and bad sides to social media too.
Packed with giggles, cringes, and heart ache- be prepared to recognise yourself if you are a 30 something woman.
Escapism at its finest.

Wonderful!
What else can I say?
Totally immersive in every way with great characters who felt so real, landscapes that were so vivid I had to rub my eyes, and a story that made me laugh, cry and go through every emotion in between.

Highly recommended!!

Kate's 30th birthday party didn't go as planned and she is left devastated. Her brother Toby flies over from Croatia to see if he can help and she decides to go to Croatia with him as he and his husband are opening a hostel and Kate feels at least she can be useful there .
The story is about Kate finding herself and what her desires are and learning to love herself for who she is and not how people want her to be.
I will have to visit Croatia as the descriptions in the book are just glorious. The tavernas and places to have coffee or a beer. The clear blue sea and the little boats in the harbour. I could feel the heat in the air and smell the sea.
I loved the rapport between Kate and her brother Toby and his husband Filippo, they cared for her so much. This is a very sweet love story that you want to happen but it gets pulled by by the past and you really can't tell which way it will go until the end. I loved the epilogue .
I always enjoy Isabelle Broom's books. I love where she sets them and with her descriptions, she always makes me want to visit wherever she writes about,

Isabelle has done it again. I love her style of writing and she has a knack of drawing you in from the very first page. Engaging, descriptive characters who you can really identify with.

This is perfect escapism and you really can feel the heat of the sun as you read about the beautiful scenery of a Croatian island, the waves gently lapping on the shore.

We first meet Kate following her rather eventful 30th birthday party when she is broken hearted and sets off to sunnier climes to lick her wounds and start to rebuild her shattered dreams.

I enjoyed the easy banter between Kate and Alex and her brother Toby and his Italian husband Filippo, while picking up some handy interior design tips as Kate
helps to prepare her brother's hostel for opening

Vivid descriptions of flash yachts, pebble beaches, breakfasting outside, the abundance of lavender, the contrast buzz of crickets and even a trip to the Tisak supermarket brought back many happy memories of my own trip to Hvar in October 2019 and I truly felt like I'd been on holiday myself. I even dreamed about Hvar last night!

Without giving too much away this is a ovely story of finding yourself, being kind and learning to love yourself again and comes very highly recommended.

Isabelle really should be on the payroll of many a tourist destination as her fantastic depictions would no doubt swell bookings.
