The children in our pre-school classroom absolutely loved the illustrations in this book. When we went outside after story-time they were all looking for ducklings (even though our park doesn't have a pond). I think this would be an effective book to use in the Springtime as part of a curriculum that is trying to keep the children engaged and great for a Spring season addition.

What an adorable illustrated children's book about a young girl named Eve and her daily walks with her grandfather. This cute story teaches young readers about nature, kindness, and how to properly approach wild animals. I read this with my 3 year old and she was so excited and captivated because she loves animals. The illustrations were so beautiful and really brought everything to life. Towards the end of the book, my daughter compared Eve and her grandfather to herself because she also takes daily walks with her grandfather. This truly made my heart melted.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy (by request) in exchange for my honest opinion.

My granddaughter loves animals, all kinds, insects, birds, cats, dogs, bunnies, ducks, frogs, you name it. She identified with Eve right away when we read this book. Eve and her grandpa walk to the park each day. There is a lake in the park and in the lake are a mama duck and her two ducklings. Eve watches them and wants to touch them, but mama is protective and chases Eve away. The next day Eve tries again, but the ducklings swim away and she falls in the water. She finally understands that she should just watch them and leave them alone. After several days, she returns to the park and tries once more to make friends with the ducklings, but this time she has a much better idea. We really enjoyed this story. The illustrations were adorable. I loved the emotions on the faces of both Eve and her grandpa. The ducklings were so cute doing just what you would expect them to. We had some great discussion about what to do when we see animals in the wild and how to be kind to them. It was not easy to get her to understand that they don't want people to bother them, but I think she finally understood. I liked the final twist at the end, watch for the last illustration. A cute book that I would read again and definitely recommend to kindergarten classes when they are learning about animals in nature. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions are my own.

An adorably sweet story of a little girl who wants to befriend some ducklings, but Mother Duck is very protective of her babies. Will Eve find a way to make friends with the ducklings?

A very simple book, probably best as a “read to” book for very young children. Darling illustrations.

Eve is eager to make friends with the little ducklings at the pond, but she is too eager and scares them away instead. After a disastrous dunking, Eve stays away from the ducklings and the pond, removing herself from the temptation to pet their fluffy little heads. Until one day......

This is a lesson about patience, kindness, and letting people (and animals!) get to know you in their own time. The illustrations are sweet, and the story teachers kindness to animals in a gentle, relatable way.

~~Many thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.~~

Eve sees ducklings when she visits the park and pond with her grandfather. When she tries to pat or hug them, she experiences some mishaps till she learns how to be kind with animals.

Cute story with simple drawings and a story that´s easily understandable for small children, though I didn´t quite get Eve staying away for some time, and the accidents might frighten little children, though they normally read/watch it with grown-ups.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Eve and her grandfather take a walk to the water to see the ducklings. Eve wants to hold and play with one of the ducklings and doesn't understand why she can't. Momma duck makes it very clear she does not want Eve to be playing with her babies. They visit the ducklings again and they watch them swim and dive. They one day they visit the ducks and bring food to feed them. Sweet story about learning how to watch and learn about small animals.

This was such a sweet book to teach children to be easy with baby animals and that maybe not everybody wants to be touched. Eve learned patience in this book. My 5 year old was not interested in the story as much, he just wanted to look at the pictures and talk about the baby ducks.

Eve's Ducklings is such a lovely book with a great message! I loved the simplicity of this book. I also loved the beautiful illustrations. This book is perfect for younger children! I can't wait to add this to our collection at the library!

Thank you NetGalley and Bonny Books for this ARC!

All little Eve wants is to touch the ducklings that she sees when she goes on walks with her grandfather. Sadly for her, they are not interested and Eve is discouraged. Will she find a way to get a bit of what she wants? This sweetly illustrated title will provide the answer.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This has lovely illustrations and the moral of the story is to respect the animals & give them space. It’s a great explanation for young children.

I wish there was more to the story and a stronger message to the story. However, the illustrations were beautiful!

Thank you for the Net Galley ARC.

Eve's Ducklings is an adorable picture book. Grandpa and Eve spend time in the park where the ducks swim on the pond. Grandpa and Eve spend time in the playground too. Eve wants to hug the ducks; she wants to feed the ducks.

I think families will enjoy reading this book. I remember some special moments watching the ducks with children.

Maria Monte's book, Eve's Ducklings is cute, and I love the fact that it shows a loving relationship between a child and her grandfather. However, the story seemed lacking to me. There wasn't much to it, and I think the story line would have naturally filled out more had the grandfather explained to the child why we shouldn't mess with wild animals and talked about how we can observe and learn about them.

Eve’s Ducklings is a cute picture book for children in the 3-5 years age group. It is about Eve and her grandfather who take daily walks across a lake where Eve tries to make friends with two ducklings.

She tries to hold, hug, and grab the ducklings. But the ducks don’t appreciate her approach. She tries quite hard, but the ducks still stay away. Her daily antics lead to minor incidents (except for the one where she fell into the lake–it can be fatal, and children should not take this lightly!)

Over time, Eve stays away from the ducks. A few days later, she tries a different way of befriending the ducklings, and is delighted with their reaction.

Emelie Wiklund’s illustrations in watercolor and ink are bright and beautiful. The author has used simple vocabulary, however the word play is interesting.

Her relationship with her grandfather is adorable. He encourages her to explore, but I wonder why he never tells her even once to not touch the ducklings at all! It would have sent a stronger message if the adult in the story had guided the child. Also, the font size could have been slightly larger.

Keeping the target audience in mind, the author has not gone into a detailed explanation of the message. And the gap opens doors to engage children in a discussion in a more play-way method.
Eve’s story sends out a message of being kind towards animals and respecting their space. It is a good read for young kids - simple, with a beautiful message.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bonny Books.

Eve's Ducklings
by Maria Monte

I read an arc of this book from NetGalley with my 4 year old. He enjoyed that mishaps that occurred when Eve tries to pet the ducklings.

We both enjoyed the illustrations. They were captivating. Especially the adorable ducklings. I enjoyed that Eve was not dressed in an overly girly way. This makes the book more accessible to boys and girls who would rather not dress in pink and bows.

As parent I think further explanation about respecting wildlife’s space would not have been amiss. However this is not a significant detriment as it leaves it open for parents to insert their own “moral of the story”.

Eve's Ducklings is a cute Children's book teaching the kids patience and kindness towards animals. Loved the illustrations. Plus the story is pretty short which is perfect before bedtime!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a free ebook copy.

This story is definitely sweet, but I was disappointed by the length. It was so short that I'm not sure young readers will actually learn the intended lesson of how to treat animals nicely. However I did LOVE the illustrations. The watercolor pictures were beautiful! I just wish this book was longer so that more substance could be added!
