Wonderful Clean Romance With All of the Feels
This is truly a wonderful romantic story. It is a complete story with deep characters that are fully developed. Things are not over-described such as listing everything a character eats for dinner. In that respect, it is a mature novel. This is a clean story! All of the intimacy is behind closed doors, with no mentions of body parts feeling this way or that. The conflict between the characters is so complete that the reader does not know if they will end up together. That is a precious commodity in a modern romance novel. I enjoyed this book to pieces! I smiled through most of it, teared up a time or two, and highly recommend this book to anyone. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

This a great feelgood novel. Lily and Will are great characters. They met at a Caribbean vacation. Will thinks she is a professional costume designer and Lily thinks Will is single man, but none of that is true. They have a short romance and think they’ll never see each other again. But Will is an event manager and needs a costume designer for an important movie. He hires Lily for the job. A lot is going wrong, but the dresses she sew are magnificent. Lily an Will struggle with each other, attract e repel, but they do have a happy end.
The story is great, the setting is also great. I liked the dialogs. The story is is alternately narrated by Lily and Will, so we know them well and see how both sides of the same story are going on. And in the other characters are Poppy, Zac and Megan really nice people. The pace is high and it’s very funny. Someone like you is really a recommended read.

Lilith 'Lily' Monroe and Will Taylor meet on holiday in the Caribbean (Oh how I long to be in the Caribbean!) and have a holiday fling. Neither of them are entirely honest about their circumstances, Will failing to explain about his family situation and Lily by claiming to be a costume designer rather than saying she works in a clothing factory.
As luck would have it, when they return to normality, Will is in need of a costume designer and circumstances contrive for Lily to end up in that position.

I enjoyed the scenes set in the Caribbean (mostly because I was living vicariously through them!) One reservation I did have was that I didn't think their relationship was that well fleshed out. It was built on lies and I didn't feel this was addressed satisfactorily. Having said that, it was enjoyable as a light, easy read.

Lily Monroe was raised by her grandparents as her mother died when she was a young child. She dreams of being a costume designer but her career plans were put on hold as she became a caregiver for her grandfather. Her grandfather died and she decides that she needs to reinvent herself. She gets a makeover with hair color and cut and also decides to go on a vacation to the Caribbean. She designs colorful sexy clothing for her trip which is a contrast to the mousy clothes that she has been wearing.

Will Taylor is a devoted single Dad as he was widowed at an early age. He had been running his own Special Event company while raising his daughter so he is very stressed and is in need of a vacation. .When his daughter goes to camp, he decides to go to the Caribbean. At the airport, Lily and Will run into each other. Once they arrive at the resort they again encounter each other. They decide to hang out together at the resort and a relationship starts to develop. As this is a vacation and they do not expect to see each other again, Will does not tell her about his daughter and she tells him that she is a costume designer. They do not exchange contact information but once back in England., they both continue to think about each other.

Several months later, Will is in need of a costume designer and thinks of Lily. Meanwhile Lily is trying to develop a career so she applies for positions as an apprentice costume designer. Will contacts a recruiter and instructs them to hire Lily. Lily thinks that she is being hired as an apprentice and doesn't know that it is Will's company.

When she sees him at the site, she is surprised and also upset that she has been hired as a costumer designer. She feels overwhelmed. He is disappointed that she is upset as he hopes she would be happy to see him again, She doesn't tell him that she is not a designer as it is such a good opportunity. A lot of drama misunderstandings occur over the next 6 weeks. This is a great book that I highly reccomend.

I really enjoyed this, a wonderful story about love and achieving your dreams.
Lily and Will both go on holiday to the Caribbean to escape from grief, 2 different types of grief but grief none the less, they never expect to see each other again but a good love story wouldnt be a very good love story if they didnt right?
You follow Lily and Will's story through every bump in the road and every romantic moment.
For me the only thing I'd change is perhaps having a follow up chapter with Poppy but that's just me being picky.

Another lovely book from Tracy Corbett. Likeable characters, two stunning locations (Caribbean and Windsor) and an intriguing storyline.

Love a bit of romance and this book ticked all the boxes, thoroughly enjoyable read with likeable characters and a good background

3.5 stars. The first page or so of this book was rough. I wondered if I might even want to DNF it, which I never do, but it got much better after the funeral scene picked up. I’ve read quite a few rom-coms lately, and this one was actually fairly unique, plot-wise. The characters get together in the beginning then have to find their way back into a relationship throughout the book. I liked all the characters, especially Lily/Lilith. Even though you know she’s kind of lied her way into a job, you know she’s an amazing person and extremely likeable.
I did find it a bit strange that throughout the book, Will’s family gave him so much trouble for having to help take care of his daughter. So many families, especially grandparents, do this all the time without acting so put out by it. You’d think they would be more understanding, especially as he’s a single parent who suffered a great loss. I also didn’t understand his family insisting he force Poppy to do more social things, at least not in the way they were. These are plot elements that would imply he has a bad relationship with his family, when you kind of understand that isn’t supposed to be the case. There were several references to being introverted being a negative thing, when it’s absolutely not, and I wouldn’t imagine frequent readers would really appreciate the implication. Despite that, I really enjoyed this book and would like to read more written by this author.

4.5 stars for this book that kept me awake very late last night and from working today <3

A shy sewing bee pretending to be bold and successful; a grieving and good-looking daddy who purposefully forget to mention his daughter and dead wife : these little liars are the main characters of Someone Like You.

And I loved them ! Lily(ith) and Will are so cute, both torn apart by their lies and how to confess without hurting the other one's feelings (and their own pride). Secondary characters are so sweet. I really liked the plots around the romance and the timeline that made this book so lively and believable. Loved Windsor and the Caribbean as settings to this story. Really, i loved it.

It was my first book by Tracy Corbett, but it sure isn't the last :D !

This book was written well and I unashamedly bought into all the tropes - clumsy girl. I love the fact that the beginning and the ending of the book are set abroad and especially loved the beginning with the descriptions of holiday paradise 🏝

I loved the protagonist right from the beginning. I found her to be relatable as she started her second phase of life without her grandpa. Although her clumsiness was exaggerated this did lead to some memorable scenes and helped move the story along.

A gorgeously uplifting romance.

Someone Like You is the story of Lilith "Lily" Monroe and Will Taylor, two people who meet and click while on a carefree Caribbean holiday. Lily is reeling from the loss of her grandfather and must decide what to do with her life now that she is free to live for herself. Will is a widowed father trying to protect his daughter and be both parents for her. When they meet on holiday, they get to be whoever they want to be, free from all responsibilities, because how would they ever see each other again? A little white lie could end up jeopardizing Lily's shot at her dream career and could spell disaster for any hope of romantic happiness, while a lie of omission forced Will to keep up his protective wall and may ruin any chance at love.

The cast of characters is likeable and fun, from the vacationers and staff on the island, to the members of the festival staff. I greatly enjoyed Lily's interactions with just about everyone. She seems genuinely kind (I mean, she learns her hotel neighbor's name and story) and it is easy to root for her. Will, on the other hand, has a contentious relationship with pretty much everyone, even his daughter, and it's a little off-putting that everyone ends up apologizing for upsetting him, even when he's in the wrong. His relationship with his sister seems overly quarrelsome. He comes off as a bit of a jerk throughout 90% of the book, and honestly I don't think he deserves someone like Lily.

The pacing of the story, for the most part was good. I did get lost in the switch between the use of dates and general spans of time (March 18 vs 6 weeks later), especially when changing between perspectives. Also, on an unrelated note, There were a couple of typos and errors that distracted me from the story, but nothing egregious.

Overall, this is a fun, lighthearted book that romance readers should enjoy.

Tracey Corbett’s ‘Someone like you’ is a sweet tale of two such people who did and the ramifications of their reinventions.

After putting her life on hold to nurse both parents through their terminal illnesses, factory seamstress Lilith Monroe desperately needs a change. She books herself on a Caribbean holiday and becomes Lily, a costume designer, which was a career goal until her dad’s diagnosis.

Meanwhile Will Taylor is a young widower raising a young daughter is burnt out running his successful events company while being mum and dad to his daughter. He’s burnt out and too busy to have a relationship so also books himself the same holiday as Lily whom he literally collides with.

The book can be slow going sometimes (how many clumsy pratfalls did we really need with Lily?), I felt that I’d prefer to action to move a bit faster. I, did, however love that the main actress Lily is designing for was written as a supportive person vs stereotypical actress diva. Overall, for the most part its fairly predictable as to what is going to happen it’s still a sweet, fun escapist romp.

Lilith and Will are both trying to "get over" life situations when they meet at a luxury Caribbean resort. Lilith or Lily as she so ''cleverly' reinvents herself has just lost her last remaining relative (her grandfather) after 10 years of caretaking for him. She goes on this trip (but not before a My Fair Lady like makeover)y. Will is still grieving and not offer the freak tragic death of his wife Sara when their daughter Poppy was just 2. She hit her head asking skiing but seems fine until later that night where she eventually goes unconscious and never awakens (reminiscent of Natasha Richardson). Will and Lily meet up and decide to keep these life situations from each other and actually flat out lie about their lives. During this vacation they never even talk about their personal lives. How on Earth is that realistic?

Both return home, Lilith receives an unusual job offer to be to her surprise a head costume designer when all she had been before was a factor pattern cutter. Her boss is none other than Will who hires her without ever checking her references. Will of course decides to hide that he was ever married and has a child.

Both characters lies are eventually exposed, they get mad at each, but realize they are madly in love with each other. Both Lily and Will were boring, 2 dimensional and totally unlikeable characters. I'm guessing this is supposed to be a fun summer, beach, fluffy read but the fact that these two decided to keep lying throughout the whole book and then end up with a perfect Cinderella ending was just more than I can handle.

This is the first book i have read by Tracy and thanks for the advance copy. Since finishing the book inhave downloaded two more i enjoyed this so much.
Both The main characters were living quite lonely lives then a chance holiday in the Caribbean brought them together. I loved the holiday chapters i felt like i was there on the sand sipping pina colada very well described.
The ending played out how you would expect but was still a great read and very enjoyable

this book is definitely different from other books that I have read. But in a really good and interesting way I'm glad I gave it a shot and so grateful that I was able to get it the plot is really great but the setting was phenomenal.

Wow this book took me SO LONG to read because I just couldn't get over the trope-iness of the book. I think some books can pull of the rom-com template really, really well, this book just REALLY did not do it for me. The only thing I enjoyed about this book were the (very brief) parts describing the costumes Lily designed and the description of the whole fairytale event. This book is the epitome of the worst parts of the 2000s rom-com wave. Every trope the book used was so overdone to the point of foolishness where you're just sitting their questioning the rational minds of these characters and how someone has survived so long acting the way they did.

FIRST OF ALL, I absolutely H A T E relationships built on lies. However, I do think some books can pull it off really well when there's a plausible reason for the lies and it brings a healthy angst without dragging on. Unsurprisingly, this book did not do that at all. Lily and Will's relationship started off with some major miscommunications, and while I think it could have been redeemable, the book took the absolutely WORST WAY of resolving the issue. What I really disliked about this novel was that not only was the lie the basis of their relationship, it was used as the crux of the plot. There was little-to-no challenges the characters faced. IN FACT, THE ENTIRE PLOT WAS JUST THEM AGONIZING OVER WHEN TO REVEAL THEIR LIES????? The whole festival line was there to put up some minor issues, but each part of the plot was pushed by the challenges of their lies???

SECONDLY, this book way overuses the 'clumsy girl' trope. I get that having a clumsy character can be really endearing as it humanizes a character. But when Lily is literally tripping over something EVERY OTHER SCENE, and when this clumsiness is the major force used to push her and Will together, all I felt was exasperation over this girl's lack of coordination. All I can think of is, honey, if you are legitimately falling into things/ walking into the street/ tripping over something when you're literally standing still, YOU NEED TO GO SEE A DOCTOR. THAT IS NOT NORMAL OK??????

Also, this is kind of nitpicky but some of the writing style in certain scenes REALLLYY bothered me. I found Lily and Will to have no chemistry beyond face-value attraction, and I think this is in part to the way their major milestone scenes were written. While the entire book is written in first-person past tense, certain scenes were written in a 'flashback' sort of way. Essentially, every single major moment between the two were not told 'in-the-moment' but rather over either Will/Lily reflecting about the past scene. As a reader, I found this really discomfiting because I felt that the flashback nature of the scenes really sucked all the heat and emotions out of the scenes, leaving me with the characters telling me they have chemistry, rather than the author actually showing it. As a result, I really wasn't feeling Lily and Will as a couple and I don't get how they were soo enamored with each other when they basically went through a very shallow fling based on lies and nothing else???

Other tropes used in this book that I hated: insta-love, weirdly prophetic child who always knows what the right thing to say is and offers no role other than to push the plot, combative characters with no real resolution.

Someone Like You was an quick, light, funny, quirky book. I really liked Lily. She was funny despite having been dealt an unfortunate hand in life. She was consistently a lovely person and someone you want to win at life. Will, on the other hand, wasn’t my favorite. He went back and forth between a nice guy and a jerk. To me he had no reason to keep him secret from Lily. Seemed a little silly as the story went on. The other issue I had with the story was Poppy. Her character was supposed to be 10/11 but often she seemed so much younger. It was hard to but into her part of the story.

Having said all that I did like the book and I’m glad I read it. It would be a great vacation read. I’d give it 3.75 ⭐️.

Lilith has been brought up by her grandparents, she loves to sew and has big dreams that one day she will become a designer. These plans have been put on hold as she has spent all her adult life caring for her grandad and working as a pattern cutter for a local business.
When her grandfather dies he leaves her a small inheritance and she decides to spend some of this money on a once in a life time holiday to the Caribbean. With new clothes, new hair and a new persona (Lily) she decides to make the most of this holiday and try as many new experiences as possible. The way the author describes some of these new experiences had me laughing out loud - I could just picture her on the luggage carousel (You really need to read this to see what I mean as I do not want to spoil it for you).
Lilly meets Will , an interesting business man, and because she is never going to see him again decides she will give him a version of her that includes her hopes and dreams , confident and self assured - where is the harm in that? Fast forward a few months and these white lies catch up with her! Oh boy do they catch up with her but... was Will 100% honest either? I cringed, I laughed and could not wait to see how it ended.
This is a new author for me and I will definitely be reading more of her books. I loved her humour, the way she describes every day life and the fact that often small things can spiral out of control..
