This was really cute! Cuter then I expected it to be I think!

There isn't much of a "plot, " but it's a lot of fun to read and fairly sure I smiled through the (almost) whole volume. It gave me a lot of Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie vibes where you have the gender bender roles and the smaller chapters.

And like with that first volume, I enjoyed this one! I thought the Cinderella chapter(s) to be the cutest and would be very curious to see what happens in the next volume because I think the ending was my favorite part. (Though the muffin scene was SO cute!)

Recommended to those looking for a light and quick read!

Haruma Ichinose is the cool guy at school. He's tall, popular, handsome and in a bitter rivalry with Yuki Mogami, a nice girl at school who just happens to be taller than him. He will do such dastardly things as try to take her to a horror movie to show her he's braver and cooler than, that will show her obviously!

...

Now why does everyone seem to think that it's a date and that he has a crush on her? Nonsense! This is war... right?

This is a fairly amusing, if slightly repetitive manga. Art is well done, most of the jokes hit well, overall very amusing. The characters are pretty good (though Ichinose annoyed me sometimes), this is a pretty good accomplishment. Initially I was worried it would fall into the same old cliches that many school based comedic manga operate on, but it managed to be a fairly fresh take on it. Well worth a glance for fans of comedic manga. 4/5 stars

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fun, but nothing out of the ordinary. The drawings were adorable. Concerning the story, here, instead of having a really basic shojo, we have the genderbend shojo kind of. It is the life of the boy who is disrupted by the appearance of a tall cute girl. One that point, it is fun and entertaining. However, the story still feels basic for the moment. Maybe the next volumes will develop the characters and the story more. The thing with this manga is that it is quite episodic and hence, harder to connect with the characters.
I recommend it to shojo fans who do not mind episodic manga.

This was such a cute story. I really liked how the characters were drawn. The story is about a 17 year old 'prince' in high school and he likes a popular girl who is 4.7 inches taller than him. As he tries to get her attention or even talk to her, he is so out of depth. He keeps getting caught up with her cuteness and attractiveness causing him to be tongue-tied, and she is oblivious to his attempts to court her.
This is such a sweetly written story about high school.romance and the pitfalls of being nervous in front of your crush. The hero keeps having fantasies about what he wants to happen and in reality the exact opposite happens.
I found this a well written story, with supporting characters that do not take away from the story. It was a story that just flowed and the drawing reflected what the characters were doing and experiencing. Sometimes, the drawing and words do not match, but not here.
I give this 5 stars and recommend reading. I can't wait for the next chapter to come.out.

"Are you some kind of oblivious manga protagonist or something?! How are you so clueless?"

Haruma Ichinose is very popular and up until now, he hasn't met anyone as perfect as Yuki Mogami. She's tall, cool, collected, and totally makes him crazy. But can he deal with falling for someone even more dashing than himself? This is a very funny manga and I laughed out loud throughout reading it! It was hilarious and entertaining watching this unique dynamic play out and seeing these classic shojo tropes with the gender roles switched.

The characters were self-aware which made it extra funny, and Haruma's irritation by the situations really cracked me up. But thankfully Haruma and Yuki also had real insecurities so they weren't one dimensional. Each story segment was short and well written and I enjoyed the storylines. It was all over the place at moments but I would totally continue this series and totally recommend this book if you want a light-hearted and funny romance.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC of She's My Knight by Saisou!

SO CUTE. I love this so much. I love how Mogami is taller than Ichinose because I can totally relate to the height difference in my own relationship 😂 I enjoyed the trope of how the popular guy has a total crush on someone who rivals his own popularity and he completely denies liking her even though it’s so obvious. There were some really fun parts in the story that played on the contrast of their gender roles and how Ichinose thinks their relationship is supposed to be (ie. he should be wooing her and making her fall madly in love with him and not the other way around). This was just a really fun manga to read and the emotions shown in the artwork was hilarious and really helped make the story even better. Facial expressions were on point.

It’s pretty much a very cutesy story about a over the top tsundere as well as a narcissist school guy who is in love with a schoolgirl that is basically known to look “masculine” (we need more of these types of characters goddamit!) She’s also pretty easy going. The story is somewhat similar to “Lovely Complex” but with a different twist...

Although not my personal favourite but if you like your “happy go lucky” story, this is for you chaps!

Big thanks to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for having the volume 1 available to check out!

I seem to keep stumbling across shoujo manga series on NetGalley that I’ve never heard of before its translation has appeared. Which is a lot of fun. But it is making me start to wonder how much I actually like shoujo manga these days. I enjoyed this volume. I did. But it wasn’t quite for me, and I’ll get into why down below.

That being said, I won’t be giving this a low rating, and I’d definitely recommend it to shoujo lovers. I just might be growing out of it.

She’s My Knight was apparently called Ikemen Kanojo to Heroine na Ore!?, which people translate to mean ‘She’s the Prince and I’m the Princess!?’. That should tell you all you need to know about this series. It follows Ichinose Haruma, an incredibly handsome teenage boy who is used to the girls flocking all over him. But he’s not the most charming person in school. That title goes to Mogami Yuki. A girl who is taller, even more handsome. And also happens to be the person Haruma has a crush on. This is a silly series about Haruma trying to be the suave guy to impress Yuki, but he keeps failing.

The art in this series is cute. Haruma’s appearance kind of reminds me of Koga from Ensemble Stars, and there is a mini-comic comparing him to a puppy. So that comparison amused me very much. Yuki isn’t typically feminine, but she is pretty. It doesn’t feel like Saisou was trying to make her look too masculine, but she does clearly stand out from the other girls with her height and short hair.

One of the things that I did like was that there wasn’t any homophobia. It really could have easily been done with this storyline, and I was a little worried. As they do try and push the idea of gender norms. Like, Haruma does like to imagine that Yuki is shorter than him as that’s the masculine ideal. But even when you have cross-dressing and them realising that they don’t fit into the shoujo manga clichés of their gender…they aren’t mad. You don’t have Haruma insisting he’s not a princess as that’s gay or Yuki being laughed at by others as people assume she’s a lesbian. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised as the handsome girl and the pretty boy are kind of a thing in anime and manga. But there’s usually more cross-dressing involved than there is in this. Just a single chapter involving cross-dressing here for a play.

I will say that this first volume was pretty funny, and it definitely had its cute moments. Haruma and Yuki really do seem to like each other. Even if she is completely oblivious. He really does his best to impress her, he just fails at it a lot. And that’s hilarious. The chapters in each volume are pretty short, and there are one or two-page bonus chapters in between just for extra laughs.

This was a quick, easy read, and I can genuinely say that I enjoyed it. But I also wasn’t that invested. I don’t feel the urge to carry on. There’s plenty of other slice-of-life series out there where I’m more attached to the characters. A lot of this manga just felt silly. Yes, it was light and fun. And yes, it was exactly what I expected. But I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would, and I think that’s down to me. I can’t find anything particularly wrong with it. When I was reading it, I did enjoy it. I just- it’s hard to explain.

I’ve always loved shoujo because it’s so cute, and though there’s still shoujo series I enjoy. They tend to be more fantasy shoujo than slice-of-life. I’m thinking the slice-of-life variety of shoujo might just be a little young for me now.

But if you are after a new shoujo romance and want something where the girl can protect a very flustered guy? This is for you.

‘She's My Knight’ was a cute, witty, hilarious, gender reversal shoujo manga that made my day! Haruma Ichinose is one of the protagonists, the male lead who was always popular and loved by all is rivaled by the charming, taller than Haruma, Yuki Mogami. Yuki and Haruma are perfect and charming in their own way. It is a sweet rom-com that was easy to read and enjoyable. The side characters are equally as hilarious, especially Miyoshi, Haruma’s friend. Miyoshi is the representative of the readers with his honest and deadpan humor. The art style was well done.I did take one star off due it being all over the place as in there wasn't a clear linear progression and the random bonus stories that were placed after every chapter was leading me astray from the original plot.
Also…
That Ending! What a cliffhanger! I am anxiously anticipating volume 2!

Thank you Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for the ARC ^.^

I really enjoyed this. It feels like Kare Kano and Fruits Basket had a baby. It's typical of the genre but in all the right ways. It was funny and actually made me laugh, it has memorable characters, and I already want to keep reading.

A million stars!!! This is soooo cute I loved it it! I can't wait for volume 2! So precious, each episode was well thought out, they were short but adorable. The characters are also so perfect.

Cute rom-com!! The main male lead, Ichinose, handsome and very popular with girls. The female lead, Mogami, is a cute and friendly girl who is taller than most of the guys- including Ichinose. The problem is that Mogami isn't charmed by Ichinose and the cooler he tries to be made for some cute and funny moments. The plot isn't exactly linear and tends to be more episodic, but overall enjoyable.

I was loving this manga one third in, but after that point it kind of lost its charm. I like that it takes common shoujo tropes and genderbends them to make fun of them. This story is definitely written to let you have a good laugh, and it’s successful in that sense. You’re not supposed to take anything seriously and I absolutely loved that.
The characters were also ridiculous in a cute way. I couldn’t get enough of Ichinose’s awkwardness and reactions in general lmao.
On the other hand, I find it more of my taste when there’s a good plot, and this manga had a very episodic nature which ruined things a little for me. With that format the manga felt also repetitive after the first pages.
Overall it was a cute read and I’m not mad about it :)

This is a SUCH a cute slice-of-life rom-com manga! It's a fun gender-swapped play on your typical shojo manga, where Haruma (who is normally a very cool and desirable guy) finds himself playing the unwitting heroine to Yuki's tall and dashing prince-type character - she's not trying to be, it's just how she IS (plus she's got a good four inches on him!) Their chemistry is so great and the overall tone of the manga both pokes fun at ALL the shojo manga tropes while also paying homage to them and delivering them in fun and playful new ways. The chapter about the muffins was just too hilarious, it had me cracking up! I can't wait to read more about this crazy pair in the next volume.

I actually enjoyed a manga! This graphic novels stars a 17 year old boy who has always been beautiful and popular his whole life...until a new, tall girl shows up and has him questioning everything. He is upset she's starting to get attention then he wants to be the one giving her the attention, even when he admits it. I really enjoyed this manga and will nominate it for Mavericks. Thanks for the ARC Netgalley.

So this first volume was ALL over the place. Not a very linear progression and the random bonus stories did not help move the plot along. We could've used way more plot or cute interactions and less bonus stories. I did enjoy how it made fun of its own shojo tropes while living up to said trope. It added an extra layer of humor. I'd try volume two just to see if the plot developed more.

Special thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for granting me access to a digital #ARC of this volume. #ShesMyKnight1

Ahhh this was so adorable and I want more!

I really loved the art style of this, it reminded me a lot of some earlier manga I've loved over the years. The story too was right up my alley!

My favourite chapter was the last one because Ichinose and Mogami were both feeling all the feelings and I just wanted them to admit it to one another and they couldn't (very typical manga to me which is great!)

Overall a really strong first volume that I would recommend to people who enjoyed Hirunaka No Ryuusei, Kimi Ni Todoke and Tonari No Kaibutsu-Kun which are probably my top three shoujo manga.

Haruma Ichinose is a heroine!? She’s My Knight follows Haruma Ichinose, the most charming boy in school… until the most charming girl shows up. Yuki Mogami is a princely type! Ichinose would probably be jealous, if he wasn’t head over heels.
The pacing of this manga was practically perfect. Told in a vignette format, the chapters were short with humor infused in every page! This was a light and fluffy read, which I enjoyed immensely. Haruma was shockingly relatable, as a male protagonist in a shojo manga, especially in the later chapters. With gems like “She’s the first person, I want to see but also the last...,” I thought Saisou perfectly described what it was like to have a heart-fluttering crush.
I gave this manga a 4.5 out of 5 stars (I rounded to 5), for while I did enjoy this manga it relied heavily on tropes already established in shojo genre. Therefore, western readers, new or less familiar to the genre, might not get all of the humor. Despite this, I would recommend She’s My Knight!
Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the letting me read and review this lovely comedic ARC of She's My Knight by Saisou!

She's My Knight is the first volume in a shoujo series featuring a role reversal. It takes all the usual shoujo tropes and has the male and female leads reversed.

Refreshing and funny, poking fun at each other and the genre, this series is a blast to read. Ichinose and Yuki are adorable as the main characters. Yuki a charming, tall girl who makes hearts flutter and Ichinose is a cool, handsome boy who until now made every swoon. Ichinose has met his match in Yuki. She makes his heart flutter and his cheeks flush. Hearing the thoughts in his head will make you laugh so much. He imagines himself taller than her in his daydreams. ^..^

Can the two admit their feeling for each other? Will Ichinose realize he really is the heroine of this tale?

Not my favourite manga I’ve ever read to be honest. I was lost a lot of the time, which made me lose interest.
