A really well written enjoyable book. Definitely one for the book club! I wanted it to carry on so I’ll look for more by this author.

Loved this book, it was just perfect for the last of my summer book reads before heading back to school. Simple escapism at its best. Martha Morgan was an icon in the eighties and now lives as a recluse in an old converted convent. She decides to let the property out as a holiday rental. What follows is week full of chaos.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to immerse themselves in stories of lost romance, second chances.

Martha was a member of a very famous pop band in the 80s. She got hooked on drugs, lost custody of her son and fled to France where she became a bit of a hermit.

20 years later her house is falling to pieces and she needs a way to make money so she rents out the house to holiday makers. Paula and Ranjit come with their children and bring along unexpected guests and Martha has to accomodate them all. Then they start complaining and Martha has to deal with everything while dealing with her own demons.

I really liked Martha and her story arc and enjoyed her as a character.

Thank you #Netgally
Oh my, I was hooked to this book from start to finished,
Martha Morgan's life is turned upside down one winters night.
She moves to a now falling down French haven with a Cherry Tree Orchard attached. In a bid to save the property from the banks repossession, she decides to reluctantly rent the place out for Holiday makers.

Still angry and hurt by her failed career as part of a successful 80s band and her marriage to Andrew, this story takes a look at her past, present and future. Her best friends are Pierre and Sally who own a local bar have supported her through her darkest days. The separation from her baby boy still burning in her heart.

We meet Pippa her pet rabbit, Ranjit, his wife Paula and their 2 kids Tilly and Reuben, they are joined by Reubens Best Friend Josh and his much younger Girlfriend Alice.

You will have to read the book to find out where Noah, Elodie, Carla, Flora Ben, Zac and Max fit in.

The book is funny, sad, happy and looks at relationships from different perspectives. Nothing is quite as it seems. My Hero of the Book has to be Pippa and I have a soft spot for Elodie (love that name).

I will definitely be checking out more of Kate Glanville's books.

The description for this book certainly had me intrigued, but I never could have anticipated how much I would LOVE this book!.

The story takes place in a crumbling convent building in the Dordogne, this is where we first meet Martha. This is the place she now calls home, following a rather difficult patch in her life, where everything seemed to fall apart for her. Martha was once a singer songwriter in a well known band, and her fall from grace has left her feeling rather downhearted.

This is how she finds herself turning this run down convent in to her home. It is perfect really, because it is secluded – away from prying eyes, and it is also surrounded by a breath-taking Cherry Orchard.

As Martha begins trying to piece her life back together, with the hope of reconnecting with her Son, she realises she has little choice but to rent out her beautiful home to holiday makers. The first group that book their holiday there are far from ideal, and certainly make themselves known for all the wrong reasons. However, their stay ends up changing things more than Martha could have ever anticipated.

The Cherry Tree Summer is one of those stories that you can lose yourself in completely. The setting is brought to life by the author, allowing you to picture yourself walking through the orchard and taking in all of the sights and smells surrounding Martha’s home. There is a cast of colourful, totally unique characters that all play a part in the effortless way this story flows from beginning to end. Of course, not all of these characters are ones that you find yourself rooting for, but that is what makes the story all the more authentic.

A beautifully written book that really captures your heart. I loved everything about this book, and will be eagerly awaiting future releases by Kate Glanville.

Set in a crumbling convent building in the Dordogne, this novel has a delicious cast of characters ranging from the truly dreadful to the heartwarmingly delightful. The lead character is Martha, whose house it is, and who is an ex singer songwriter from a well known band. Now on hard times and desperate to reconnect with her son, and she is forced to let her house as a holiday let. The first group that arrive are all that is awful about the British abroad! However their stay proves to be a change in more ways than they, and Martha, had imagined. Highly recommended.
