Another great read from the master Peter James!

I'm a great fan of the Roy Grace series and this book did not disappoint.
A woman disappears into thin air. She was just running into a store for some cat litter while her husband was waiting in the car. Did her husband have something to do with it or is he innocent? Very quickly the evidence starts piling up against him. How will this play out? The story seems quite straight forward but then the curveball hits you and you think duh.......I should have seen that coming!
There's also again some personal tragedy for Roy and you feel so sorry for him. How much more heartache can he endure?!

And finally....... Will he get rid of the thorn in his side Cassia Pewe?
To end off with the quote from Chuck Palahniuk: “It's so hard to forget pain, but it's even harder to remember sweetness. We have no scar to show for happiness. We learn so little from peace.”

Thank you to NetGalley and Pan MacMillan for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

This is another excellent detective novel from Peter James. It kept me reading late into the night! I enjoyed the idea of a husband dropping off his wife to buy cat litter at Tesco and waiting...and waiting....but she doesn’t return. I liked all the true-to-life situations, the banter between the detectives and of course the wonderful Roy Grace. There was an incident towards the end where I realised I was holding my breath, it was so exciting! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s a fan of this series already or anyone yet to meet Roy Grace. It’s cleverly written and full of twists and intrigue. Five stars!

I enjoyed my first Roy Grace novel even though I haven't read the previous books in the series. Roy Grace is an experienced, intelligent detective who treats the people he encounters with refreshing humanity.

The story has a believable team dynamic and relatable characters. The balance of investigation and personal life detail allows insight into the lives of the main characters. A suspicious missing person case comes to Grace's attention. A complex and detailed investigation follows. An element of repetition is inevitable, as points of the investigation are retold to different investigators. This makes the pacing realistic and the investigation process authentic.

The plot twists are varied with emotional personal moments to ensure reader engagement until the climactic conclusion.

I received a copy of this book from Pan Macmillan via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Left You Dead is the seventeenth instalment in the Roy Grace series and is Detective Superintendent Grace's most challenging case to date as he investigates the file of a missing woman in Brighton. It poses the question: What would you do if your partner nipped into a supermarket and did not return - and you found yourself accused of their murder? A mystery that is leaving him totally confounded for the first time in his career. Most Sundays, Niall and Eden Paternoster like to go for a drive and visit country houses. She likes to look at them, he likes to dream that one day. However, most weeks they also end up bickering about something or other. This particular Sunday he wants to get back to catch the start of the French Grand Prix but she insists they stop somewhere to buy cat litter.

Reluctantly, he pulls into the car park of a large supermarket and waits while she dashes in. He waits. And waits. But Eden doesn't come back out, she’s gone. When he gets home she’s not there either, and none of their friends or family have heard from her. A few days later Niall is arrested on suspicion of her murder despite vigorously protesting his innocence. But as Roy Grace is called in to investigate the disappearance of Eden Paternoster, it soon transpires that nothing is as it seems. Another great addition to this stellar series, it's intelligently plotted, pacy and riveting from first page to last. Twisty-turny surprises populate the book alongside superb characters and although this is very much a domestic-based thriller, James manages to make it original and nail biting.

Can’t believe this is the 17th instalment of the Roy Grace series and if you’ve read the previous books you will know they never disappoint !! After being slightly disappointed at the lack of Roy Grace featuring in the previous book I was so pleased to have him and his team back centre stage in this one.

Niall and Eden Paternoster are on their way home from a day out at a country house when Eden asks to stop off at Tesco to get some cat litter. Niall waits in the car for her but 25 minutes later Eden is still not back ...... where is she ? Has she gone home by herself ?

Eden has vanished and Niall decides it’s time to call the police when she is still not home the next day. The police think something is not quite adding up so Roy Grace and his time are called in to investigate.

Roy is convinced something is not quite right, but what ? Where is Eden ? Has Niall murdered his wife ? What is the motive ? The more the team discover the more mysterious the case becomes.

As well as trying to solve the mystery of Eden’s disappearance, Roy has his own personal issues to deal with. Can Roy keep it together to find the missing Eden ? Is she alive or dead ?

This is Peter James back to his best. I love Roy Grace and his team and you know when you pick up a Roy Grace book you will not be disappointed. I was also pleased to have Roy’s family and police team back in centre stage. This is definitely a great addition to the Roy Grace series !!

Thank you to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

Niall Paternoster drops his wife Eden at Tesco to purchase an item, she then disappears off the face of the earth. Niall is arrested on suspicion of murder, Roy Grace is assigned the task of unraveling the mystery of where she has gone, and the many secrets surrounding this case.
In the meantime Roy learns something about, his superior, Cassian Pewe, that could destroy his career. Roy has suffered under the watchful eye of Cassian, for far too long.
While all this is happening, Roy’s own personal life takes a shocking twist, in part of the storyline I wasn’t expecting.
I have read all of the Roy Grace series, and I have to say this book does not disappoint, I absolutely loved it!! Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book before the release date.

Thoroughly Engaging.....
Detective Superintendent Roy Grace becomes involved in a new case where nothing is what it seems when a man is arrested on suspicion of the murder of his wife. A thoroughly engaging read, well written with a credible cast of characters, a compelling narrative, a likeable protagonist, twists and turns aplenty and smatterings of dry humour. First class addition to the series.

Peter James has written another excellent book featuring Detective Superintendent Roy Grace in 'Left You Dead', the 17th in the series.
A husband reports his wife as missing. His story as to their final day does not ring true. He is arrested on suspicion of murder. Yet, the more the matter is investigated, the further conflicting evidence is discovered. Will Grace and his team be able to get to the bottom of the matter? With such a difficult case, Grace needs to be able to focus on work 100% but his son, Bruno, is having problems at home and school so he and Cleo are needing to spend time and pay extra attention to him which leaves Grace with a tricky balancing act.
I loved seeing the interaction of Grace's personal life and very complex work case. A very emotional book. A wonderful work by Peter James, fully deserving of full marks.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, Peter James and Macmillan for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I am ashamed to say that this is the first book by Peter James that I have read and I did not realise it was the 17th book in this series! That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It is a quick paced crime thriller with some cracking one liners.this book has you instantly pulled in from the first few pages. I am going to start from the beginning of the series as I am desperate to found out the background.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and can’t wait to hear more from the author.

What can you say about this series. It’s excellent. It’s Peter James. it’s Roy Grace. What more can you want.

Each one better than the last, and can’t wait for the next one

I’d like to thank Pan MacMillan and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Left You Dead’ by Peter James in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Eden Paternoster’s husband Niall drops her off at a local supermarket to buy cat litter but when she doesn’t return to the car he goes looking for her. The store’s CCTV can’t find any trace of Eden in the premises and eventually Niall goes home and phones the police to report her missing.

‘Left You Dead’ is number 17 in the long-running police series featuring Detective Superintendent Roy Grace who, while investigating the unexplained disappearance of Eden Paternoster, gets distressing news of a personal nature that affects both himself and his pregnant wife Cleo. The plot is well-written with lots of drama, suspense and twists and turns, but the final twists were so surprising that I was unable to decide which of the characters were lying and which were telling the truth. This novel shows good old-fashioned policing at its best, where every clue is followed up and the criminal eventually caught. It’s a good solid police thriller that’s easy to read and kept me guessing as it didn’t reveal its secrets till the end.

Roy Grace is back again and does not disappoint.

A very different plot this time but cleverly written. A wife goes missing, the husband is the suspect as per usual, but who is having the affair? You gradually unravel it bit by bit, but you get a surprise near the end.

Running parallel with the case is Roy and Cleo´s personal battle with grief (don´t want to say what it is otherwise it spoils it for other people), and the moral dilemma which comes as a consequence.

My thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me the opportunity to read and review honestly an advanced copy.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy

Left You Dead is the latest book in the long running DS Roy Grace series by Peter James and it is one of the best yet.

In addition to the main storyline of Grace’s team investigating a no-body murder and all the issues that creates 2 of the series’ longest running arcs move significantly forward which was a bonus.

The author clearly enjoys his research on policing issues and uses it well throughout the book

Highly recommended

It's the first book i read in this series but it won't surely be the last as i loved it.
It's gripping, emotionally charged and entertaining at the same time.
I loved the characters, Roy Grace above all, and I think they are well thought and fleshed out.
There's a mystery but there's also something going on in Roy Grace's life. There are some heartbreaking moments and I liked how the author dealt with them.
Even if it's not the first in a series I had no issue with the plot or the characters.
The author is an excellent storyteller and this story kept me turning pages.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Niall and Eden visit a local National trust property and on the way back Eden decides she needs some cat litter from Tesco. She gets out of the car and goes to the store. Niall waits and waits and the store then closes but where is Eden?
Niall is arrested for her murder but DS Grace is called in and soon realizes that something doesn't seem right.
He must deal with this whilst facing a personal crisis.
Another cracker from Peter James - couldn't put it down!

I’ve been with Roy Grace since the beginning and although the main crime plots continue to be engaging and interesting, Grace’s reaction to other events in this book are very odd. It just doesn’t sit properly with me. If you can get past that, this is a good crime novel.

This is a great suspense novel and a formidable addition to the Roy Grace detective series.
Eden Paternoster goes missing in a Tesco car park, and her husband soon becomes the centre of a no-body murder investigation.
But things are not what they seem. And as the evidence against her husband becomes more damning, the police start to wonder if there is more to this case than meets the eye.
Full of twists and turns, I found this really gripping. Definitely one of the best in the series.
If this is your first Roy Grace novel, it’s perfectly possible to read it as a standalone novel. But I’d really start at the beginning as the story of Roy’s career and life is just as interesting as the murder plots.
