I enjoyed the plot of this book. The mystery, the doubt, and the ending. This novel went at a good pace and the characters were likeable. The characters were also realistic. I liked the not typical ending, it suited the cleverness the perpetrator relished.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead.

I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings.

Anything requested and approved will be read and a decent quality review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Nic always hated clubbing. She only went out that night because she’d promised a friend. She wakes up, naked and bound in an abandoned cottage in the middle of nowhere. Dappled light comes in through a dirty window. Her body is covered in cuts. Across the room her friend groans in pain.A shadow passes the window. He’s back.He picks up a knife. He begins to cut her friend. In that moment of bloody frenzy, Nic wrenches free and runs. She’s finally safe. But this is only just beginning.
Detectives Asha Harvey and Aaron Birch arrive at the scene hours later. There is no body, there is no sign of the killer. It’s as if it never happened.
A brilliant read. Couldn't put it down. Gripping from start to finish. 5*.

Nic manages to escape from her abductor in this new story set in Northern Ireland. She also makes plenty of idiotic decisions and for some reason is allowed to get involved in the search for the culprit which is annoying as is the cliff hanger at the end. Didn’t enjoy it enough so won’t be bothering with any subsequent books in the series. I prefer one off books not a whole series with the same team. A beginning, middle and end - next story please!

This was just seemed to slow to me, and I couldn't get into the story. I also couldn't relate to the main character, so I ddin't really care about what happened to her. She seemed to make a lot of silly decisions. Most of the characters fell flat for me, but others may enjoy it. I am a mood reader, so it's possible I might enjoy more if I gave it another try at another time.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approving me for this arc

This was something that I wasn’t 100% sure if I would like it or not but I really do!

I really enjoyed this thriller. I hadn’t read any other books by this author but I now will. I love the setting of the story in Northern Ireland, I live here and a lot of the places described are familiar. I found the characters relatable and liked the way the plot unfolded.

Many thanks to netgalley and Kerry Buchanan fir the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.

Truely a great title , I was so consumed with the story but didn't like the ending as I felt the survivors should have kept their integrity and not stooped to Colm's level. All in all a brilliant tale of terror. I will be definitely reading more from Kerry👏👏👏

This story is all sorts of strange and nothing makes sense until it does.

Take a journey with Nic as she tries to escape a murderer. Who can she trust? Where can she go? Is any of it real?

When you’ve been drugged and kidnapped, these things can make you second guess everything and everyone.

This story is nearly nonstop. Hold on and read!

A different slant on the police procedural but I'm not sure if it was in a good way. I really didn't understand why Nic, as a victim was so involved in case, it wasn't believable and far from realistic. The conclusion wasn't as much of a cliff hanger as it should have been either

Knife Edge by Kerry Buchanan is the first book in the new Harvey and Birch series and it was brilliant. Once I opened my kindle and started to read it I was hooked and did not want to put it down. So be aware not to start to read it before you go to bed!!!!

This book is Set in Belfast, Northern Ireland and the main character is called Nic or known as Nicola Gordon, and she finally gives in and goes with her friend Colm to celebrate her roommates Hannah’s birthday at a belfast nightclub.
Nic wakes up in an abandoned cottage, in the middle of nowhere, She is naked and bound and her body is covered in cuts. Panic sets in, where is her friend Colm?
Whilst adjusting to her surroundings again, she hears her friend groan in pain, but, can't hear anything else around her.

A shadow passes the window.

Who is it?

Is it their abductor?

The abductor then starts to cut into her friend...OMG!!! within that moment she has to get free and try to find someone to help them. Nic finally gets free and runs. She is finally safe for a while..........But will she stay safe or is this just the beginning of this nightmare?

Is Colm still alive?

WoW! This book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat and keep you up all the night like it did me! So, glad I never had work the next day!

I highly recommend this book and looking forward to book two in this new Harvey and Birch series.

Big Thank you to NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author Kerry Buchanan for my ARC of Knife Edge in exchange for an honest review.

Complex thriller with lots of twists. Fairly predictable with uninspiring characters who failed to come to life.

YOU THINK YOU KNOW HOW IT ENDS? THINK AGAIN.

Fans of Lynda La Plante, Tana French, Patricia Gibney, Brian McGilloway and Helen H. Durrant will devour this electrifying crime thriller by one of Northern Ireland’s newest talents.

This book was so much fun to read and I highly recommend it!

Thank you to NetGalley for the arc of this book!

First time I’ve read any of Kerry Buchanan but it most definitely won’t be the last. The title is quite appropriate because the story will have you holding on like a knife edge throughout this exciting thriller.
Nic goes out with her friends to a nightclub not by choice but because she had said she would go. She and one of her friends called Colm decided to pop out the back entrance to get some fresh air. The next thing Nic remembers is waking up gagged naked filthy and her body is covered in cuts. Across the dark room she sees her friend in the same situation.
Although her hands are zip tied behind her back and attached to something on the wall she feels that with enough strength she could escape. Just then their assailant comes back but as he is focused on her friend she makes her move and manages to break free and escape.
This is such an exciting thriller it have you holding your breath at times.
Highly recommended.

First in what I'm hoping is a new series by Kerry Buchanan, this is a smashing debut novel a new author for me.

An investigation set around Belfast that follows the chilling crimes and aftermath of "The Slasher" and the cat and mouse games he plays with his victims and their families.

A chilling, suspenseful action packed read that held me captive from the start to end!

There is a serial killer on the loose in Belfast, he had captured Nic and she escaped barely with her life. The question is did he let her escape on purpose simply for the chase. This is a fast paced thriller with plenty of action it is descriptive and well written . 4 stars

Oh, My Goodness! Once I started reading, I did not want to put KNIFE EDGE by Kerry Buchanan down until I had finished. The book opens with heart-pounding suspense and the pace does not slow down throughout the whole book.
Nicola Gordon has been held captive with her arms anchored behind her back as she is tormented with deliberate slices through her skin by her captor. Nic remembered being with Colm at Hannah's birthday celebration with friends at Katy's Bar inside the Limelight to enjoy a cider. When she woke up Nic was in extreme pain and distress sitting on the floor of an old shack. She could hear Colm moaning with pain across the room from her, but she couldn't see him. She was hoping someone would come to rescue her and Colm, but she decides to work harder to achieve freedom. Nic keeps pulling at the anchor ring that holds her until she manages to pull it from the wall Now to find the energy and run for an escape!
As the story is told, the killer offers his narration of what he is thinking and planning. All the characters are well written and play an important part as the story progresses. I had figured out who the perpetrator was early in the book, but how he kept evading capture was interesting. The determination of the killer was like an obsession. I won't post spoilers, but some of the scenes had me nervous! Everything is not always as it seems in the plot of the story. Everyone does not make it through the scenes without trauma. The story is not wrapped up nice and neat, but it is so appropriate...and do NOT read ahead! The epilogue was even more shocking, and I cheered!
Thank you to NetGalley, Terry Buchanan, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

A rather predictable outcome but with some interesting characters that I’m sure will appear in future books. It did at times feel like there didn’t need to be any police involved because the crime was being solved by Nic but she is a likeable character and gets away with it for me.
