I really struggled with this book.

From the start I found it really hard to get into and it just never seemed to let up. I managed to finish it. But that didn't ease the tedious reading I went through to get there.

I'm not sure what it was but we just wasn't a good match. I suppose the book wasn't what I thought it was going to be.

With thanks to netgalley, the publishers and the author for this FREE arc in exchange for a review.

I generally love Boyd's books, but felt this one was a little far-fetched and the characters' behaviour not really convincing.
On the upside, the parts about the tour-guide work and the settings were interesting.

Just a middle of the road ok book for me. More a drama than a thriller and easy to guess what was meant to be the twist. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

An unplanned affair turns into an dangerous infatuation. Connie's marriage is going through a bad patch after her doctor husband retires. The attentions of a younger man is flattering and tempting until it becomes too close to home.
The unhinged Jared, threatens to blow Connie's life apart and danger ensues as she tries to repair her marriage to Devan and get her family back.
A fantastic story about a late in life dalliance that seems exciting until it's time to end it.

I read this book and thought it was very good, I think it is a book that makes you think about people’s actions and how those actions can affect other people, I did think it was aimed maybe more at an older age group but then I thought anyone in a relationship should read this.
In general I know there have been films and other similar books, but this is a really good read, it explains life changes and it was interesting to read about different destinations that are described perfectly.

A really great novel . The story features connie and Devan who are having a few problems in their relationship which leads to a betrayal and the start of a gripping read that will keep you wanting to know more and gets more intense as it reaches it's conclusion.

Connie is a tour guide who has an affair whilst in beautiful European places as she no longer gets attention from her recently retired Doctor husband. It’s slightly unbelievable, especially once the affair is over, but is a nice beach read!

I have enjoyed some of Hilary Boyd's previous novels and particularly like the fact that they feature older protagonists in their 60s. The Affair begins by focusing on a common issue- the distance that can develop between couples as they reach retirement. Connie works as a tour guide and her husband Devan has just retired from his busy GP practice. Devan is struggling to cope with retirement and distances himself from Connie. On a tour of Lake Como Connie meets Jared and begins an affair with him. I enjoyed the exploration of Connie and Devan's marriage and found Boyd's characterisation convincing. I am pleased that the novel looks at the issue of stalking but I wasn't convinced by the affair between Connie and Jared and found myself believing in the plot less and less by the denouement.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review a digital ARC.

This was a compelling read, well written with well developed characters. I felt conflicted reading it as I found Devan very irritating but still felt bad about Connie cheating on him. As the book wore on I was so anxious for her and felt chewed up about her getting caught, especially when Devan began making an effort. I would definitely read more from this author. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and Penguin for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I have read a few books from this author and enjoyed them as family dramas, she writes well about the nuances of family life.
I enjoyed this one too and it certainly kept me reading, however, I was at a bit of a loss as to why Jared behaved the way he did. Was Connie so unbelievably alluring that he lost all sense of himself? I wanted a bit more explanation as to his background and motivations, did he have previous form for this kind of behaviour? I was kind of hoping Connie would get in touch with his godmother in London for some information about him.
So while the relationship between Connie and her husband and daughter were very believably written, I would have liked to have learned a bit more about Jared's backstory.

Passionate, sexy, heartbreaking. Life for this upper middle-aged main character becomes a roller coaster ride as a passenger on a tour of Lake Como takes a fancy. Lovely and fun twists abound.

This was an ok book. Not terrible and not outstanding. Just a middle of the road story about a tour guide who has an affair and regrets it.
I kept expecting it to get better, to find out more about the characters and why they did it but it just didn’t happen and this was disappointing.
The stalker storyline could of been developed a lot more to make it more gripping.

As I’m a woman in her early 50’s this book gave me hope. 😂
Connie is a much older lady, still working, still getting dressed up, still attracting men.
A story of an obsessive affair. I loved it.

Oh, my! I really, really struggled to finish this. However, finish it I did and I'm rather sorry I bothered.
I found it a tedious read about tedious people and it's very repetitive. I was just hoping that something / anything would happen and that there'd be a redeeming twist or story, but, no.

Devan and Connie have been married for something like 33 years and they are obviously bored with each other. Devan is a retired GP in a village and Connie continues to enjoy her work as a travel guide. Connie desperately misses the closeness she once had with her husband and has an affair with a customer on one of her trips. This man then turns into a stalker.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview andI'm so glad many enjoyed it, but, definitely not for me. I found it a very sloooow hard read.

1* Didn't like.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I was drawn in from the first few pages and finished the book in over a day.

The story is about a couple, Devon & Connie, their lives are about to change. Devon, recently retired, he was a local GP and it seems that he’s not taking to retirement well, as he’s left alone, Connie has to travel abroad for her job and is often away for long periods.

Reading this, you feel the emotions that Connie experiences, as you get into the story. So well written and you feel as though you are going through what Connie is, scared, upset, you want to continue reading as you want to know whats next.

Connie is finding the change in her husband, Devan, since he retired very challenging. The romance has fizzled and during a holiday to Lake Como Connie meets the mysterious Jared and could this fling be something more.
This was sadly not the book for me. It was interesting but it didn’t grip me as I hoped. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This story was so slow.....I felt like it went on forever and nothing much seemed to happen for a long time.
Connie wasn’t a very likeable person, what I did enjoy was the description of Lake Como, definitely a bucket list place to visit.
Connie and a summer long affair with a younger man, returns home to her husband and expects to be able to carry on life as normal. More of a drama than a thriller and unfortunately only gets a 3/5 review from me.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

DNF. To be honest I tried but I lost interest of it. Connie is so boring. And I do not like the way that is writing, the person change it annoys me so much.

Another wonderful read from Hilary Boyd. Thoroughly enjoyed this tale of Connie & her career as a travel guide & what happened when she met Jared on one of her trips & how the meeting spiralled her life into one she had never expected at her age. Once I got into the story I just had to keep reading to see what it's outcome would be, needless to say it wasn't quite what I expected. Absolutely loved it & can't wait for another book from this author

I have enjoyed Hilary's previous books but found this one to be a very slow start. I came very near to giving up on it, but am so pleased I didnt as it developed into a brilliant story and one I would definitely recommend
