Sir Charles has been murdered. Due to that death, his younger brother Sir Henry has inherited the Baskerville home. However Sir Henry has been warned against going to the Baskerville home. What did the warning say? He asks Sherlock Holmes for help. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will help him. Holmes has Dr. Watson travel with Sir Henry to the Baskerville home. Will Sir Henry be killed?

This adaptation is exceptionally well written with great illustrations. Hopefully this will make the ones in school want to learn to read. It’s written so anyone regardless of age can enjoy this classic story. There are definitions of words that the reader might not know what it means. For example, it explains what a Hansom Cab is in words and an illustration of it. The classics are not always an easy story to read but this one does. It amazes me how well the tone of the original story. I enjoyed reading this adapted story and wished it had been available to me to read it first.

I do love a Sherlock Holmes story, and of course this is the most famous of all, brilliantly adapted for younger readers by Stephanie Baudet for Sweet Cherry Publishing. It one of the longer stories by Conan Doyle, full of mystery, suspicious characters and a monstrous hound on the moors! Even though I knew the story, having read it and watched various versions, I couldn’t remember what was going on, so was pleasantly surprised by the twists that went on throughout the story. The illustrations by Arianna Bellucci were great fun and went perfectly with the plot of the book. I definitely recommend this one for middle grade readers and can’t wait to see what the author and illustrator come up with next.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Who doesn't love Sherlock Holmes? As a kid I have read and heard so many tales and trust me this book will live up to your expectation. Highly recommended.

The Hound of the Baskervilles is the classic original detective story by Arthur Conan Doyle. Stephanie Baudet’s book is a simplified version of the Sherlock Holmes mystery, that is an easy read and includes illustrations. Faithful to its source, the mysterious beast of the Devon moor is once again a riddle only the great Holmesian mind can solve. With good cartoonish pictures and an easy read, it is a great introduction to the Holmes canon with a four-star rating. With thanks to NetGalley and the author for a preview copy for review purposes. All opinions expressed herein are freely given and totally my own.

I loved the idea of an adaptation of this story for middle graders and was more than curious to see how well it was done. I was not disappointed.

This tale follows the original from Arthur Conan Doyle very tightly, and really does simply try to bring it down to a level which is easier for middle graders to enjoy and understand. I very much appreciated that this didn't mean 'dumbing' it down, either. The writer keeps the same tone of the loftier (historical?) language, makes it understandable, and manages to weave it in a way which won't soar over the audience's head. So, hats off to her for that! That also means that this one is suitable for adults, who enjoy the tales but struggle (or don't have the patience) to deal with the original Sherlock Holmes novels. Also, the style makes it perfect for a classroom situation, since it keeps the atmosphere of the original tale and opens the door to classics, in general.

While sticking to the same atmosphere of the original tale, this book never grows boring thanks to a few extras. Firstly, there are a few (very few) explanations thrown in for those things readers will not recognize or understand. I, personally, would have liked to have seen more of these, but that's my own personal thing. I did enjoy the illustrations quite a bit and found that they helped to lighten things up wonderfully. They are well done, dribbled in at just the right rate, and make it even approachable by slightly more reluctant readers. The illustrations (along with the larger font), also did make this one a very quick read...I was surprised how fast I soared through this one.

I was impressed at how well this adaptation captured the original tale and am looking forward to see what other works are underway.

" I, Sir Charles Baskerville, shall now reveal the truth if the legend behind the hound of the Baskervilles ...
No Baskerville should ever cross the moor at night."

OMG, one of my favorite classics adapted for children!!

When the death of Sir Charles Baskerville became a puzzling mystery, there was no other that the very famous detective Sherlock Holmes to investigate the case. He was invited to give his opinion on the truth of the legend that a very dangerous hound was ready to kill any Baskerville who crosses the moor at night.
With the help of his friend Dr. Watson, Sherlock sets to investigate the case. His purpose is to assess the truth of the legend and to protect Sir Henry Baskerville, the last of the Baskervilles and the heir to the great mansion, where Sir Charles Baskerville used to live.

What I loved about the book:
The adaptation was so good and remained true to the original story.
The book was so easy to read and is very suitable for children.
The illustrations were very good and added so much to the story.

This can make a great gift to any child who loves reading. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to encourage a child to read books.

This edition of Sherlock Holmes comes to you from the Children's Collection: Creatures, Codes, and Curious Cases from Sweet Cherry Publishing. This edition comes from the UK and has some beautiful illustrations. This classic tale starts with The Legend of The Hound of Baskerville.. The legend states that Sir Hugo Baskerville fell in love with the farmer's daughter, kidnapped her, and held her captive. She escaped but when Hugo went looking for her they were both found dead by the moor and the phantom hound was blamed. Now Charles Baskerville has died after a walk with a look of horror on his face and hound footprints nearby. Henry Baskerville is to inherit the property and is expected to continue his family's charity work. This book was delightful in fine Sherlock fashion. Enjoyable for all ages this book is at the middle-grade level. This book is from the same publisher as my previous review of Anna Katrenina and I am looking forward to more classics like this to review.

A brilliant adaptation! Accessible for younger readers but maintaining the elements of the story which make it so compelling. A great way to open up the path to the joys of more Sherlock. Also allows kids the chance to have a go at playing detective themselves and spark that love of detective stories. I would recommend!

4 stars.

This book was perfect for me! I maybe an adult but the old classics such as Sherlock Holmes novels and ones like Charles Dickens just go way over my head.

I know this is aimed for about Middle Grade readers but it's also for all ages above too. I appreciate this easy to follow and understand version and really hope that there are more of Sherlock Holmes stories written this way.

I think the sharpness of the illustrations were well chosen. There are not a lot of them but just enough for this younger readers chapter book.

I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to bring their kids up on classics but are too young for the original works but I also recommend it for people like me, adults who need a simpler version.

I'll be on the lookout for further books from this author.

Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles, adapted for children by Stephanie Baudet, is a fun adaptation of the classic story. I loved read the classic Sherlock Holmes stories and I was excited to see these to share with my son. I found the originals by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to be not that appropriate for an elementary child, even if he or she is interested in mystery. In this book (and series) I found a wonderful alternative that mostly represents the heart of the original story. I recommend it. The illustrations are really fun too! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

This novel is the adaptation of the original Sherlock Holmes novel for a younger (7+) audience. The language of the book is easy to read and the beautiful illustrations and design of the overall book make it a lot more attractive. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the entire book, and I'm sure children would love it. I love the little details in the novel., like the letter and the newspaper.

I would love to see more novels like this that encourage young children to read more and more!

I thought this was a good, simplified adaptation for younger readers. It keeps the core elements of the original novel and while it tones down the violence and menace, it does convey the danger and mystery. THe illustrations work well with the text and I think this should be appealing.

Sweet Cherry has published a number of illustrated classics that are adapted for the younger reader. The latest of these titles is The Hounds of the Baskervilles. As is true of the other books that I have read in the series, this one captures the essence and feel of the longer work. It also includes information on words, for example, hansom cab, that may be unfamiliar to today’s readers. Hopefully, this version of the story will inspire children to read the original when they are ready.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This is a kid-friendly version of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes classic, The Hound of the Baskervilles. I read this book together with my 8 and 11 year old sons. We all enjoyed the story and had good discussions, guessing who the "bad guy" would be. The story seemed a bit quick and lacking in some detail, which is completely appropriate for a kid's version of the book. I haven't read the original version, so I can't compare to it, but the simplification for kids still left a coherent story, with everyday language and a clear storyline. I would definitely look for more books like this from the author to read with my kids.

As a fan of Holmes, I was curious to see how the author adapted the book for children. I first time I read The Hound of Baskervilles was in my eighth class. It was my special English textbook. I fell in love with the plot and began reading other cases of Holmes.
The adaptation is a summarized version of the original, and it managed to retain the crucial elements in terms of clues and crime-solving techniques. However, the atmosphere and setting took a hit.
That said, this book would be a great choice to introduce Holmes to the younger kiddos and get them interested in the series. The illustrations were sharp, though some of them made me chuckle. Guess that would be perfect for kids.
Overall, a good adaptation in simple and easy language that kids can read for themselves.
Thank you, NetGalley and Sweet Cherry Publishing, for the ARC.

Having read the original adult version I was intrigued to see what the children's adaptation would be like....and I can safely say I was not disappointed!

The story was retold perfectly for children to understand and enjoy , I feel that Stephanie Baudet did a wonderful job . The illustrations throughout the book were fun and engaging, making it easier for younger readers to picture it in their imagination. I would definitely read more adaptation versions by Stephanie!

Great quick read that still kept all the important parts in the story!
