A mixed response to this for me. I found it hard to engage with the characters and this made it hard to lose myself in the story. It’s a great premise and some of the depictions of the main character’s experiences of the horrors he was exposed to were really moving. A bit long, some tighter writing might make this more appealing to people who read mysteries as a regular and frequent hobby.

The premise of this story was really promising particularly the exploration of the impact of tragic events and how they can change our view of the world.

Ray, a city analyst, witnesses a terrorist attack leading him to give up work to become a stay at home Dad to his newborn son, Billy. The story follows the aftermath of his decision as Ray struggles to adjust to his new life and the continuing effects of the trauma he witnessed.

Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. I liked the themes of the book but overall I found that it was too long. There were too many descriptive passages where it felt as though the author was telling me all the information rather than showing me enough to allow me to draw conclusions. The characters felt very old fashioned and I struggled to relate to any of them. The inclusion of the car jacking storyline felt too unrealistic to really grip me.

Overall, the storylines felt like they had a lot of potential but were sadly just a little disjointed and under-developed.

Provided a free copy of this text by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This novel was overlong and needs much more revision to effectively get its point across to readers. Basic story is there, but needs some work.
